Item CHARACTER ASSOCIATION AND GENETIC DIVERSITY ANALYSIS IN POTATO (Solanum tuberosum L.)(DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA-1207, 2018-06) HASAN, MD. MAHADYThe experiment was conducted with twenty genotypes of potato at the experimental farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from November2017 to March 2018 to estimate the genetic variability, correlation and diversity among the twenty (20) genotypes of potato. The experiment was conducted using Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. All the twenty (20) genotypes varied significantly with each other for all the studied characters indicated the presence of considerable variations among the genotypes studied. The phenotypic co-efficient of variation ( PCV) values were higher than the respective genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) values for all the characters under study. No of Secondary branches per plant, leaf breadth, no. of tuber per plant, individual weight of tuber, tuber yield per plant and yield (ton/ha) showed high heritability along with high genetic advance as percentage of mean were normally more helpful in predicting the genetic gain under selection. From the correlation analysis it was revealed that yield per ha was significantly positively correlated with secondary branches per plant, tuber per plant, individual tuber weight and tuber yield per plant at both genotypic and phenotypic levels suggesting that the selection for these traits would helpful for the improvement of yield per ha. As per principal component analysis (PCA), D and clusters analysis the genotypes were grouped into five different clusters. Clusters V had the maximum nine and cluster II and IV had the minimum one genotype. The highest inter-cluster distance was observed between II and IV and the lowest was observed between I and V. Genotypes in cluster II showed maximum performance for yield per ha, tuber yield per plant, individual tuber weight, tuber number per plant, tuber breadth, no of secondary branches per plant and plant height. Cluster III showed maximum performance for no of primary branches per plant and tuber length. Cluster V showed highest value for leaf length and leaf breadth. Considering this idea and other characteristic performances, genotype G19 (BARI Alu-46) from cluster II; genotype G18 (BARI Alu-41) and G2 (BARI Alu-49) from cluster I and G12 (BARI Alu-24) from cluster IV might be considered to suggest farmer for cultivation for better yield as well as use as parent for efficient hybridization programme for further improvement. 2Item CHARACTER ASSOCIATION AND PATH ANALYSIS BASED ON MORPHOGENIC TRAITS IN ONION (Allium cepa L.) GENOTYPES(DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA-1207, 2018-06) RIFAT, MD. MASHRUR HOSSAINThe experiment was conducted in the research field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during December 2017 to April 2018 to investigate the character association and path analysis based on morphogenic traits in onion (allium cepa l.) genotypes in field condition. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Variability, mean performance, heritability, genetic advance, genotypic and phenotypic correlation coefficient and path analysis on different yield contributing characters and yield of onion genotypes were estimated. The highest bulb yield/plant (47.93 g) was recorded in the genotype of Laltir King, whereas the lowest bulb yield/plant (6.44g) from the genotype of BARI Piaj 2. Phenotypic coefficient of variation was higher than the genotypic coefficient of variation for all the yield contributing traits. In case of different varieties following highest heritability order has found; yield per bulb followed by leaf length > root length > plant height > dry weight per bulb > bulb diameter > no. of leaf > root length > bulb length> leaf breadth. In correlation study, yield per bulb positively and significantly correlated with plant height (0.43 and 0.45), root length (0.59 and 0.60), no. of leaves (0.82 and 0.72), leaf length (0.44 and 0.45), leaf breadth (0.47 and 0.48), bulb length (0.84 and 0.78), bulb diameter (0.65 and 0.65) and dry weight per bulb (0.98 and 0.89) at both genotypic and phenotypic levels respectively. Path coefficient analysis revealed that plant height (1.853), no. of leaves (0.11), bulb length (0.59), bulb diameter (0.32) and dry weight per bulb (0.21) had direct positive effect on yield per bulb, indicating these are the main contributors to yield per bulb. The genotypes Laltir king and Faridpuri may be selected for high yield, more dry weight of bulb, maximum bulb length, bulb diameter, no. of leaves, leaf length and plant height.Item CHARACTERIZATION AND COMPARATIVE ASSESSMENT OF TEN ADVANCED LINES OF AUS RICE (Oryza sativa)(DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA, BANGLADESH, 2018) KHANAM, ALIYA ADIBAThe present study was conducted at the experimental farm, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during Aus season, 2017. Plant height 5Item GENOTYPE AND ENVIRONMENT INTERACTIONS IN YIELD CONTRIBUTING CHARACTERS OF MUSTARD (Brassica rapa L.)(DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA-1207, 2018-06) MONDAL, SUSMITAThe experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during October, 2017 to April, 2018. The objective of this study was to assess the genotype and environment interactions for yield and yield contributing characters of mustard varieties grown in Bangladesh through the AMMI (additive main effects and multiplicative interaction) model. The study comprised of eleven (11) mustard varieties of Brassica rapa released by BARI and BINA and three (3) environments laid out in randomized complete block (RCBD) design with three replications. The environments were three sowing times viz., optimum (Env-1), late (Env-2) and very late (Env-3) sowings of eleven mustard varieties. The results of combined analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed significant differences between genotypes and environments as main effects. Genotype and environment interactions both linear and non-linear components were highly significant for most of the parameters except number of seeds per siliqua and hundred seed weight. The results also suggested that Env-3 was poor and Env-1 and Env-2 were found rich and favorable for mustard production. The IPCA1 (First Interaction Principal Component Axis) scores of a genotypes in the AMMI analysis used as an indication of the stability or adaptation over environments. The greater the IPCA1 scores indicated the better adaptation of a genotype to certain environments. Hence, considering the IPCA1 scores BARI Sharisha-9, BARI Sharisha-15, Maghi and Improved Tori were low yielding and unstable, while BARI Sharisha-6, BARI Sharisha-17 and BINA Sharisha-9 were shown high yielding but unstable genotypes. Again, Env-1 was found as rich environment where, BARI Sharisha-17, BINA Sharisha-9 were shown highly responsive to the environment (Env-1). BARI Sharisha-12 was found intermediate yielding and stable variety. As a whole, Sonali Sharisha-75 and BINA Sharisha-10 were found as high yielding and stable varieties and Env-1 and Env-2 were more favorable for the mustard production.
