Item A Survey on Dog Feeding Practices in Dhaka, Bangladesh(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, 2022-09) Rahman, Md. AtikurThe current study was performed through the period of February 17 and March 16, 2022, at the Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Centre in Dhaka. The objective of the study was to understand the overall picture of dogs and their feeding practices. In this study, 40 dogs were induced. A conducted questionnaire was used to gather the information from the owners. The information showed that businessman made up the majority of the owners (32.50%). Dogs of the local (37.50%) and German shepherd (22.50%) breeds were mostly preferred by owners. The majority of dog owners preferred homemade feed (87.50%) followed by commercial feed. Among commercial feed, drools (5%) and classic pets (2.50%) were dominant because they are more popular. Boiled chicken (32.50%) was dominant protein sources and rice (65%) was dominant carbohydrate sources in case of homemade feeding. Vegetable (70%) were also offered. We can draw the conclusion that owning pets is growing in popularity. AtikurLung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the globe. Early identification of lung cancer can help to prevent lung cancer from becoming chronic, severe and life threatening. Here, CT images are frequently used and an automated and appropriate method using deep learning technique that can potentially makes a huge contribute to make quick and accurate diagnosis for lung cancer. However, in the area of medical imaging using deep learnings techniques, there have two limitations. One huge training time and the other one is insufficient and imbalanced datasets. This study will present the number of image balancing and reducing the overall processing time. The dataset we use in this research work contains three cases normal, benign, and malignant. In the dataset, we use data augmentation techniques to increase the amount of data then we apply some image processing method on the dataset including some filter like GaussianBlur for reduce noise, Adaptive Thresholding for high component details and edge, lastly Image Negative and Bit Plane Slicing. We proposed a Customized Convolutional Neural Network (CCNN) model using 224 x 224 size images classify the lung cancer into three classes. Seven transfer learning models, VGG16, VGG19, ResNet50, ResNet101, DenseNet201, EfficientNetB4 and MobileNetV2 are applied with the same image and batch size and all the transfer leaning models are compared with the proposed CCNN model and we got the maximum test accuracy of 98.18% from CCNN model including the require time for per epoch 2 sec. So accurate weather prediction will be a great sign for us to live well. Now, the weather has an impact on the production of several primary sectors. Nowadays, the climate is changing rapidly. So previous weather forecast systems were less effective and more time-consuming. We need better and more reliable weather forecast technologies to solve these challenges. These forecasts have an impact on people's lives and the economy of a country. The primary motivation for this research is to develop a weather forecasting system that can be utilized in remote places. To determine weather conditions, we use data analytics techniques and machine learning methods to predict the weather accurately. So, in this experiment, we propose a new knowledge-based system for weather prediction using KNN, SVM, NB, DT, RF and LR for data modelling, and we got a maximum of 95.89% accuracy from the Gaussian Naive Bayes (GNB) algorithm. So, our plan is to develop weather prediction using the machine learning concept. © 2023 IEEE.Item Community based shrimp culture in south west region of Bangladesh(University of Dhaka, 2017-01-11) Rahman, Md. AtikurCommunity based shrimp aquaculture in Southwest region of Bangladesh was investigated through this thesis. The objectives of the study were to understand present profiles of the farmers and institutions involving incommunity based shrimp culture and to identify the strengths, weakness, threats and opportunity of community based shrimp culture in order to explore the policy implications as an alternative approach.Data were gathered from four communities in southwest region of Bangladesh through participant observations; structured interviews; focus group discussions; and key informant interviews.Sampling was done by using the snowball sampling technique.Profile of individual farmer’s showed that community C (Jolma) had more experienced and educated person. 38.64% of the shrimp farmers used own lands while 37.49% of farmers used state owned lands. No female farmer was found in any of four community.Profiles of four communities association showed that every association had an effective EC committee significantly contributed to the decision making policy.A SWOT analysis proved the feasibility of existing community based shrimp culture.Weakness analysis showed that medium or low level of efforts were requiredto convert its weaknesses into strengths. Weakness like ‘gender issues’ and ‘connected water bodies’ were required high efforts to convert into strengths. Threat analysis shows that most of the identified threats fell in the category of high impact with a high ability to react. To address such threats, the system needed to develop a contingency plan. This thesis recognized community based culture and management as an alternative approach to commercial culture. Tactical direction was identified by considering social-ecological systems within which shrimp farming can be practiced as a community-based operation. The desired future position of the sector should have a high level of dependency on community association.Item COMPARATIVE SOCIO-ECONOMIC STUDY ON COMMERCIAL DUCK AND SONALI CHICKEN FARMING ENTERPRISES AT SOME SELECTED AREAS IN BRAHMANBARIA DISTRICT(Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2024) Rahman, Md. AtikurPoultry and duck farming, encompassing chicken and duck production, plays a crucial role in global food security, income generation, and employment. In Bangladesh, these enterprises significantly contribute to rural livelihoods and household nutrition. This study aimed to evaluate production capacity, management practices, and comparative profitability, while also identifying feeding systems, feed availability, key challenges, and potential outcomes of poultry and duck farming. A survey of 100 farmers was conducted to assess socio-demographic characteristics, farm management, and income patterns. The majority of respondents were aged 31–45 years (40%), with men comprising 57%. Primary or secondary education was most common (39%). Half of the farmers raised chickens, 40% raised ducks, and 10% engaged in both, with experience levels varying across respondents. Most farms were small to medium scale (≤1,000 birds in 90% of cases) and operated under traditional (35%) or semi-traditional (34%) systems. Initial investment was mainly supported by government programs (35%), NGO loans (34%), and personal savings (31%). Household income distribution showed 37% earning less than BDT 10,000 annually, 28% earning BDT 10,000–30,000, and 35% earning more than BDT 30,000. Feeding practices were equally divided among purchased, self-produced, and mixed sources (≈33% each). Housing systems were similarly distributed among intensive, semi-intensive, and open-range methods. Only 48% of farmers vaccinated their flocks, often irregularly. Feed and veterinary services represented the highest costs. Market prices remained steady at BDT 220/kg for chicken meat and BDT 350/kg for duck meat, though egg prices varied across farms. Poultry and duck farming in Bangladesh are predominantly small to medium scale, with limited adoption of systematic vaccination and high reliance on feed and veterinary inputs. Strengthening access to quality feed, affordable veterinary services, and regular vaccination programs could improve the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of these enterprises.Item EFFECT OF BORON ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF ONION(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR-5200, BANGLADESH, 2024-12) SIDDIQUA, NASRIN; Halder, Professor Dr. Bidhan Chandra; Rahman, Md. AtikurA study was carried out at the Horticulture research field of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during 2023-2024 cropping season, aimed to determine the boron dosage for enhancing onion growth and yield. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications and six treatments: B0 (control), B1 (1 kg/ha), B2 (2 kg/ha), B3 (3 kg/ha), B4 (4 kg/ha) and B5 (5 kg/ha). The experiment evaluated boron impact on onion growth and yield. Full doses of boron were applied in the form of boric acid, respectively. Results revealed that boron had significant effect on plant height, leaves per plant, bulb diameter and notably increasing yield of bulb per hectare. The tallest plant (65.43 and 65.50cm at 50 and 60 DAP respectively), obtained from B3 treatment compare to the control, maximum diameter of bulb (10.35 cm at 60 DAP) was found in B3 treatment. The maximum yield 13.66 tons per hectare obtained from B3 treatment. So, 3 kg/ha boron application demonstrated promise in enhancing overall yield performance in onions, suggesting its potential as a growth regulator.Item EVALUATION OF THE HOMESTEAD AGROFORESTRY PRACTICES IN TWO UPAZILAS OF DINAJPUR DISTRICT(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2017-06) Rahman, Md. Atikur; Md. Hafiz All AminThe study was carried out to evaluate the homestead agroforestry status, diversity and socio-economic benefits in two selected upazilas viz. Dinajpur Sadar and Kaharole of Dinajpur district. Data were obtained from 100 randomly selected homestead agroforestry practicing farmers in four unions, two from Dinajpur Sadar (Chehelgazi and Fazilpur) and other two from Kaharole (Sundarpur and Ramchandrapur) of Dinajpur district with the help of an interview schedule. Data were collected from the sample during March to May 2017. Appropriate scales were developed in order to measure the variables. The relationships between the selected characteristics (independent variables) namely-age, education, family size, homestead area, total annual income, annual income from homestead, organizational participation, socioeconomic aspect, knowledge of homestead agroforestry, communication exposure and number of trees in homestead (dependent variable). The correlation co-efficient (r) were computed to determine the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. Correlation analysis indicates that all the characteristics of respondents and farm components with number of tree in homestead agroforestry were statistically significant. A total number of 55 tree species were recorded from the homestead of the study area of which 23 were fruits and 17 were timbers 11 were medicinal and 4 were others species. Among the tree species the most prevalent species was Litchi (39.28) followed by Mango (15.35), Jackfruit (6.87), Sissoo (0.52) and Eucalyptus (0.24). The highest numbers of species (23) regardless of fruit species were found in the large farm categories, while the lowest numbers of species (4) were found in the land less farm category. It was observed that homestead was however size increased with the increase of farm size. The rate of tree plantation in the higher homestead area was higher than that of smaller ones. Among the problems faced by the farmers, the most severe problem was the quarrel with other landowner. The management practice of homestead agroforestry in the study area was found traditional system. Scientific planning in integrated homestead production systems of diversified production viz. vegetables, fruits, wood, fuel wood and timber production in agreement with the farmer‟s needs, goals and resource base can lead to viable farming systems towards sustainable livelihood in the coming years.Item “Exploring the Phytochemical Profile and Therapeutic Potential of the Methanolic Extracts of Xantolis assamica leaves: An In-vivo & In-vitro Approaches”(2024-03-03) Rahman, Md. AtikurBackground: Modern scientific inquiry consistently explores the medicinal potential of plants by analyzing their chemical composition and therapeutic effects. This study focuses on investigating the phytochemicals and healing properties of methanolic extracts from the leaves of Xantolis assamica, a plant native to Bangladesh and Assam. Objectives: The primary goals of this research were to analyze the phytochemical constituents of methanolic extracts using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), assess thrombolytic activity, and evaluate hypoglycemic effects through an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) on Swiss Albino mice. Methods: After drying, X. assamica leaves underwent methanol extraction. GC-MS analysis identified various phytochemicals present. Thrombolytic activity was evaluated in vitro, and OGTT was conducted on Swiss Albino mice. Results: GC-MS analysis revealed diverse phytochemicals in the methanolic extract, including fatty acid esters, triterpenes, diterpenes, and steroids. The extract exhibited significant thrombolytic activity, with a clot dissolution rate of 32%. Additionally, OGTT demonstrated reduced blood glucose levels in mice treated with the extract compared to control and standard groups at 120 minutes. The plant extract, administered at a dosage of 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg body weight, resulted in blood glucose levels of 6.2±1.27 and 5.33±0.78 mmol/L, respectively. In comparison, the standard and control groups exhibited blood glucose values of 6.27±0.88 and 5.36±2.12 mmol/L, respectively. Conclusion: This study underscores the therapeutic potential of X. assamica leaves, particularly their thrombolytic and hypoglycemic effects. Further research is warranted to elucidate underlying mechanisms and explore the development of natural remedies.Item Instrumentation and Control Division of Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited (APSCL)(East West University, 1/1/2013) Rahman, Md. The power sector of Bangladesh faced various problems, such as, lack of supply capacity, frequent power cuts, unacceptable generation of power, and poor financial and operational performance etc. In Bangladesh, the present maximum demand of electricity varies from 4,500 MW to MW and it is expected torises up to 7,000 MW within the next two years. But maximumgeneration available is between 3,800 MW and 4,600 MW. The difference between maximum demand and maximum generation of power is approximately 2,000 MW, due to old set-up and de-rated efficiency of the maximum power plants. APSCL where we have done our internship, has 9 units with installed capacity of 777 MW. But its present de-rated capacity is 731 MW and dependable capacity at a delivery point 573 MW. APSCL fulfills about 15% of power requirements of the total country. AtikurOne of the world’s most important zoonotic diseases like brucellosis, affected both animals and human robustly. In Bangladesh, late abortion commonly explored in dairy cattle by diverse types of causal agents where Brucella abortus is one of the major causal agents. In the study, this organism was isolated and identified through molecular characterization from aborted fetus of dairy cattle first time ever in Bangladesh. For the study, 25 aborted fetuses were collected and tested from 25 sero-positive dairy farm of Chittagong district. A total of 20% samples were found positive as Brucella abortus through culture and conventional PCR technique which is an authentication for the infectious agent. The organism varies from organ to organ likely eyeball (20%), liver (16%), lung (12%) and kidney (08%) according to sensitive and specific location. These findings were considered to be more useful in prevention and controlling against Brucellosis at Chittagong as well as in Bangladesh.Item Performance analysis of a multi-user multiple input multiple output (MIMO) wireless link over a ralyleigh and rician fading environment(BRAC University, 2009-08) Rahman, Md. They harassed People for money with the opportunity to find a donor in a short time. Sometimes people. They lost their lives due to uncontrolled blood in time. That’s why we develop this system for people who need blood as their demand, they can easily find the blood donner. People can also donate blood to the patient who need the same group of blood. In this system we have basically two modules. The first one is Donate Blood and second is Collect Blood. If people want to donate or collect blood then both of them must register in our system. If they are not register in our system, they can only view our website but they can’t donate or collect blood. In this system we have two searching functionalities. First one is Simple Search functionality and another is Map Searching functionality. Map Searching functionality is unique functionality in our system. That functionality can find a blood donor in a specific location. User could use map and donor phone location to know the current location with eligible or eligible view of donor. Then Click the eligible user, it will show the contact of donor and blood group. If match the blood group then user could contact with the donor and wait for donor response. The collected data is then uploaded to the cloud. The data stored in the cloud will be made available through a mobile application. The doctor will be able to monitor his patients’ health condition on 24/7. The doctor can monitor the patients’ health information and will get notified through a mobile app when any patients’ health deteriorates and make related medical decisions by analyzing the data stored in mobile applications from the wearable device. By this system the patient will be able to take proper treatment on time without physically meeting with the doctor. It will also be easy for a doctor to give suggestions to his patients immediately and doctors will be able to monitor several patients at a time. Water pollution is a major problem in our modern world. Polluted water can cause serious health problems. In our country the water pollution level is pretty high. In the water there can be a lot of hidden pollution that we can’t see with our bare eye. Also, the water pollution level throughout the day can change. Water contains different kinds of minerals like lead and iron. But everything has limit. If water contains too much iron and lead it can cause serious health problems. That's why we need to monitor the water we drink and use. So, we decided to make a system that can monitor water throughout the day. Our system can tell if the water is drinkable or not or how much mineral is in the water. Our system also can generate weekly and daily report of water quality.
