Abstract

As urban areas continue to expand, pursuing a better quality of life has led to increased environmental pollution. Currently, the world generates approximately 2.01 billion tons of municipal solid waste annually, with Bangladesh contributing around 25 thousand tons, posing significant environmental and health risks. Concurrently, the construction of new buildings, which heavily rely on materials like cement, is rising. However, the high cost and scarcity of quality cement, compounded by the detrimental effects of certain additives like ammonia, calcium nitrate, and silicates, present challenges. Eggshells, a readily available waste product from biscuit and bread factories, primarily contain calcium carbonate. This study explores the potential of using eggshell powder as a partial replacement for fine aggregate. By incorporating eggshell powder in varying proportions (0%, 3%, 9%, 15%), and conducting sieve analysis, Splitting tensile strength, and compressive tests, the research demonstrates that a 9% eggshell powder mixture can effectively replace fine aggregate. This approach not only mitigates waste but also offers a cost-effective solution.
