A Comparative Study on Service Quality Dimensions and Overall Service Quality in the Context of Standard Chartered Bank’s Excel Customers

The service quality leads to customers' satisfaction, which in turn leads to customer loyalty. Considerable practitioner interest has been focused on programs to improve service quality. Customer perception is a very important factor to measure service quality. This paper is an attempt to assess Excel customers' perception of different dimensions of the service quality such as tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy and the overall service quality of Standard Chartered Bank, the top banking service provider in Bangladesh. The paper also aims to identify the gap between customers' expectations on the one hand and perception on the other about the bank's service quality. Finally, some suggestions have been offered for improving the Standard Chartered Bank's service quality.

Suggestions to improve corporate governance and accountability, in line with SEC guidelines have been to indicate an active board with well Proportioned executive vis-vis non-executive members, and also with Representatives from 01/ groups of shareholders; separation of the role of CEO and the chairperson; existence of board committees; changing audit firms periodically, etc. to name a few.
A Critical Evaluation of Teacher Development in a Teacher Training Course

A Measurement of Customer Service Quality of Banks in Dhaka City of Bangladesh

This study attempts to identify the factors related to service quality of the banks in Dhaka City of Bangladesh. It identifies the relationship between age, educational background, profession, and length of involvement, types of services obtained by the clients and the service quality factors. An extensive survey of bank clients has been performed with a structured questionnaire to identify the factors. A segmentation of the respondents was made based on the nature of services provided by the banks such as, deposit, lending and other financial services. The sample clients were selected from the branches located in 4 clusters of banks including Motijheel, Gulshan, Dhanmondi, and Uttara of Dhaka City. 404 bank clients were interviewed from Nationalized, Private and Foreign commercial banks. Among the banks, 4 are government, 6 are private and 1 is in foreign sector. In selecting sample, it was assumed that the bank clients of Dhaka City are more sensitive compared to other cities of Bangladesh, as their education level is higher. The sample clients were selected randomly at the banks while interviewing. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used in the analysis. Factor analysis was done to identify the service quality factors of the banks. Correlations between the factors and age, educational background, profession, length of involvement, and types of service obtained were identified to know the relationships. In order to explore the relationship with the overall service quality, multiple regression analysis was performed. Results show that the most important service quality factor of Banks is personal attention to the clients followed by error-free records, safety in transaction, and tangible physical facilities of the bank. It is also found that there is a significant difference between the expected and perceived service quality of public and private banks. A significant correlation between the performance of promises in time and professions of the clients are observed. Perceived service quality factors have significant relationship with the overall service quality of the banks located in Dhaka City which indicates that the factors identified have strong influence on the overall service quality.
A review on natural convection flow along a vertical flat plate

Natural convection flow along a vertical flat plate has been revisited with respect to thermal conductivity, magnetic parameter, heat conduction, joule heating, coupling conduction, conjugate heat transfer and heat generation and finally a comparative analysis of free convection flow along a vertical flat plate is presented in this work where analysis are broadly discussed in order to discover the results in all the case. The graphical presentation of the surface shear stress in terms of skin friction coefficient and the rate of heat transfer in terms of local Nusselt number, velocity as well as temperature profiles are shown graphically for a selection of parameters set, consisting of magnetohydrodynamic parameter M, heat generation parameter Q, thermal conductivity n, joule heating J, coupling conduction p, Prandtl number Pr.
A study of the writing behaviors of low proficiency English learners in Bangladesh

This paper makes a comparative study of what low proficiency learners do when they write narratives in their native language and in English. It tries to find out whether language proficiency works as an impediment to good writing or whether it is an ability independent of the level of language proficiency. It was found that good writing by itself is an independent ability and bad writers in Bengali were also bad writers in English, while good writers in Bengali tried hard to write well in English. This finding has important implications for language teachers.
Abortion under International Law and Shari'ah: A Brief Comparison

Abortion is a denial of the right to life, which is the most important of all human rights because the enjoyment of other rights depends on the existence of life. Hence, national and international laws provide for the protection of this right. However, there may be circumstances in which abortion is unavoidable. For this reason, abortion should neither be freely allowed nor should it be totally denied. This paper would moot and test this proposition under international law and Islamic law from a comparative perspective.
An Empirical Study on the Interrelationship between Trade Openness and Carbon Emission in Bangladesh

This study attempts to test empirically the causality between trade openness and carbon dioxide emission in Bangladesh, applying time-series econometric techniques covering 1972-2007 periods. The author tests this interrelationship in a Vector Autoregressive (VAR) framework followed by Granger causality, variance decomposition and impulse response function, to find the plausible causal relationship, direction of causality and the likely impact of one variable on the other. The VAR was tested for its stability also. The study finds inconclusive causal relationship from the Granger causality analysis. But variance decomposition and impulse response function derived through the stable unrestricted VAR model resulted in significant impact of trade liberalization on carbon emission but not vice versa. This study is important for policy makers of Bangladesh and the countries alike.
An Evaluation of English Language Teaching at the Beginner's Level in Bangladesh from the Psycholinguistic Point of View

This paper looks at the teaching methods currently practiced in Bangladesh in both Bengali-medium and English-medium primary schools in order to ascertain how conducive it is for second language learning in the light of theories of second language acquisition. Opinions of parents/guardians and primary school teachers have been sought in this regard about the necessity and quality of teaching at this level.
An Integrated Protection Framework to Preserve Consumers' Rights and Responsibilities in Bangladesh

Consumers are the nucleus of all marketing activities as they dictate the market mechanism. However the consumers in developing countries are deprived of their basic rights because of unawareness of their fundamental responsibilities. In this paper we have considereal the rights and responsibilities of the consumers as per some established guidelines and discussed them in the context of Bangladesh, and then recommended an integrated protection framework to preserve consumers' rights and responsibilities.
Analysis of Polarization Maintaining Optical Fibers under External Stress

This present study is on detailed physical explanation of stress- induced birefringence in Step index polarization , maintaining elliptical core optical fibers. The birefringence is a Quadratic function of the effective index change, which may occur due to changes of stress Distribution within a material. In this study, changes in birefringence have been observed By applying lateral pressures. The effects on birefringence with changing ellipticity of Core of the fiber have been observed by applying no pressure. Pressure along x-axis and y-axis On the optical fiber. Finally, the birefringence of an optical fiber resulting from an Asymmetry of the index profile has been numerically evaluated using finite-element Method (FEM).
Baudelaire’s “Tableaux Parisiens”: Metropolis Multitude, and Modernity

The section titled ‘Tableaux Parisiens,’ in the second edition of Charles Baudelaire’s the Flowers of Evil highlights a remarkable transition from the poet’s initial romantic preoccupation to an outstandingly different kind of poetry which shocked the contemporary readers and led the later critics and poets alike to regard him as the first modern poet. Modern poetry, as this paper aims to show, has been the product of the lone poet’s painful effort to adapt himself to the unpredictable city and his subsequent failure, alienation and ennui. This failure is the fate of everyman, and the failed self, the fallen self With all its secrets, finds in the city a market and incarnates at times as a prostitute looking for customers to sell herself and at other times as a poet in search of a publisher to sell himself. Baudelaire, unlike his predecessors, does not shun this lost tribe of people from his poetry but makes them and their city the very subject therein. Thus, a study of the city, which supplied the poet the inspiration and the materials for his work, would be a key to Baudelaire’s modernity. With this perception this paper seeks to make a critical reading of ‘Tableaux Parisiens’ and show that Baudelaire’s modernity was born in the metropolis with his discovery of isolation in the multitude.
Branding in Bangladesh: A Historical Perspective

Brands are an indispensable part of modern business. A brand is not just a name or a static symbol. A brand has evolved to become a living, breathing, entity. Although any historical preview requires a clear understanding of the concept, for brand it is difficult if one intends to assess its status at two different points in time, having a totally different meaning in the minds. Just to place the perspective, it had a status of name or symbols that identify the unique source of product or service to that which should drive the design of the total customer experience derived out of a unique trust and emotional attachment. The purpose of this article is to examine branding from a historical perspective after a very brief exploration of its modern meaning along with to portrait the picture of Bangladeshi branding.
Classroom Experience of Teaching-Writing to Undergraduate Students: Bangladesh Context

The English language proficiency skill of most learners in Bangladesh when they get admitted in the university, whether public or private, it has been noticed, is quite poor. The authors of this paper have been involved with teaching the writing course in a private university across the curriculum. They have looked into student problem areas and have tried to tailor teaching strategies according to the needs of the undergraduate students there. This paper reflects their experiences in the use of innovative classroom strategies to develop the writing skill of students over 3 semesters, i.e. one year. The paper reflects their efforts, their success and their limitations over the one year period. The purpose of this study is to explore and share the classroom experience of the authors in teaching writing to undergraduate students and to reflect on student development in that area.
Classroom Practices in Teaching English at Tertiary Level in Bangladesh

This paper looks at the difficulties in teaching and learning situation of English at tertiary level in Bangladesh. The aim of this study was to find out after having 12 years of compulsory English learning at primary and secondary levels why the students still find it difficult to use the language satisfactorily while pursuing higher studies. The article reviews the literature describing both Grammar Translation Method and Communicative Approach in order to explain the ways of teaching and learning. The respondents consisted of students and teachers from both public and private universities. Data was collected through questionnaires, interviews and observation of classes. After analyzing the responses of both teachers and students it is found there are problems with implementation of proper methodology due to lack of awareness and training of the teachers, lack of logistics, shortage of time which ultimately results in students’ low motivation. The paper ends in suggesting ways which may be implemented inside the classroom to improve the English learning situation.
Competitive Factor Analysis of Global Readymade Garment Business In Bangladesh

At present Readymade Garment (RMG) is the leading industry and one of the leading exporters in Bangladesh. It needs limited financial investment and relative simple technology compared to other high-tech industries. In this study, the author has identified the competitive factors in the global market of RMG business. For finding the most influential competitive factors, the author has collected primary data and used semi-structured questionnaire for the purpose of interview to the respondents. 120 respondents have been selected with probably proportion to size (PPS) for interview. Factor analysis technique has been used in this study. The complexity of intercorrelations among the responses led to the use analysis techniques to probe the relation ship among the responses. Principal factor analysis seeks to explain the intercorrelations between variables with as small number of common factors as possible and extracts the maximum amount of variance due to each factor at each stage. Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS) package has been used for the data analysis of the study. The findings of this study indicated that price; quality and lead-time are the very influential factors in the global RMG business

This study discloses Consumers Choice Behavior Pattern towards Telecommunication Operators. People in Bangladesh are becoming busy day by day and more professional than previous. They need to share more information to each other because demography has changed due to the era of globalization. Mobile phone has introduced a tremendous change in the communication sector in our country. It has changed the communication structure also. People in various occupations and income levels are using mobile phone intensively for their occupational purpose and personal purpose as well. Now a day the world is called ‘Global village’. It is only possible for the developed and modern communication technology. The business world and general life is becoming more complex day by day. Women are coming outside from the four walls. They are working with male hand in hand. They are engaging with various types of professions. In this situation information is essential to respond to the changing environment.95 consumers were interviewed with a structured questionnaire. Both primary and secondary data were used. This study finds that the Grameenphone users are extremely satisfied (90%) followed by the other operators. This study is expected to help solid understanding of Consumer Behavior Pattern.
Customer Satisfaction Determination in Hotel Industry of Bangladesh

In business, customer satisfaction is a lactic of making money and this money can only be generated by having a satisfied and loyal customer base. With the world dwindling into a globalized village the intensity of competition has increaud to an astonishing degree. This paper has highlighted the fact that customer satisfaction is exceedingly personal estimation that is deeply influenced by customer expectations regarding the services. The Most dynamic verb in the lexis of customer satisfaction is 'to improve '. Hence the hotel industry like other industries is realizing the significance of customer centered Philosophies with the overall goal in terms of customer satisfaction is to stay as close to Their customers as possible. It started with the concept of customer satisfaction in the hotel industry and the determinants of satisfaction which eventually leads to future Intentions of customers. The result of the study showed that improved and superior service Quality and service features would augment customer satisfaction and the future intentions of satisfied customers would be magnified; thus service features are most imperative to the customers when it is about their satisfaction
Dynamicity of Behavior of IT Users in Bangladesh: A Study on Dhaka Metropolitan City

This study investigates the dynamicity of behavior of IT users in Bangladesh. By collecting data from 300 IT users in Dhaka Metropolitan City, researchers conducted descriptive statistics, a number of chi-square tests, and t-test and found a number of key findings as to the behavior of IT users in Bangladesh. First, Most of the IT users fall in the age category less than 35 years. IT users are highly educated and have income category of BDT 5000-BDT 30000. Second, young people, who are students or joined the job recently, are mostly influenced by family members and friends/co-workers. Third, students and fresh executives, who are the critical mass of this study, mostly use IT for accessing internet. Finally, quality, brand, service facilities, and product configuration are the most important attributes to IT users and have significant relationship with the entire demographic variables under study.
