Item Synthesis and Characterization of Some Aroylhydrazinato Complexes of Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) Ions(University of Rajshahi, 2015) Acharjya, Tapos Kumar; Howlader, Md. Belayet HossainThis thesis describes the synthesis and characterization of Nickel(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes of 4-n-octyloxybenzoylhydrazine in presence of various aldehydes. The lignand precursor 4-n-octyloxybenzoylhydrazine 2 was prepared by the reaction of ethyl-4-n-octyloxybenzoate,1 with excess hydrazine hydrate. Ethyl-4-n-octyloxybenzoate was synthesized by the reaction of ethyl-4-hydroxy-benzoate and 1-bromooctane in presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate. The reaction of ligand precursor 4-n-octyloxybenzoylhydrazine 2 with cinnamaldehyde, 4-methylbenzaldehyde, 4-nitrobenzaldehyde, 4-methoxybenzaldehyde, 4-chlorobenzaldehyde gave the ligands CH3(CH 2)6CH 2O C O NHN=CHR Where, R = C6H5CH=CH (3), p-CH3C6H4 (4), p-NO2C6H4(5), p-CH3OC6H4 (6), p-ClC6H4 (7) respectively. The reaction of ligands (3, 4, 5, 6, 7) with hydrated Ni(II) acetate gave the squareplaner complexes of nickel(II) [CH3(CH2)6CH2O C(O) NN=CHR]2Ni Where R = C6H5CH=CH (8), p-CH3C6H4 (9), p-NO2C6H4(10), p-CH3OC6H4 (11), p-ClC6H4 (12) respectively. The compounds were also prepared by template method. The reaction of ligands (4, 5, 6, 7) with hydrated Cu(II) acetate gave the square-planer complexes of copper(II). [CH3(CH2)6CH2O C(O) NN=CHR]2Cu Where R = p-CH3C6H4 (13), p-NO2C6H4(14), p-CH3OC6H4 (15), p-ClC6H4 (16) respectively. The compounds were also prepared by template method. Attempts were taken to occur the reactions of ligands (4, 5, 6, 7) with hydrated Zn(II) acetate but only the ligand (7) gave the square-planer complex of zinc(II), [CH3(CH2)6CH2O C(O) NN=CHR]2Zn where, R= p-ClC6H4 (17) respectively. The compound was also prepared by template method. Attempts were also taken to occur the reactions of ligands (4, 5, 6, 7) with hydrated Cd(II) acetate to give the complexes of cadmium(II) but no complex formed. The obtained complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic moment, conductance measurements, IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopic studies. Investigation of biological activity of the synthesized compounds on pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli (gram –ve), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (gram –ve), Klebsiella spp (gram +ve), Bacillus subtilis (gram +ve) Was undergone and appreciating activities was found.
