Item EFFECT OF BOTANICALS ON OKRA (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) ATTACKING INSECT PEST(DEPARTMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA-1207, 2018-06) HUDA, NAZMULThe experiment was conducted in the field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from mid April to August 2017 to find out the efficacy of different management against different okra pest. The treatments comprised four botanical products. These treatments are T 1 =untreated control ,T 2 = Spraying of Neem oil @ 4 ml/Litre of water mixed with 10ml of trix liquid sprayed at 7 days interval; T 3 = Spraying of 10ml garlic oil@ 4 ml/Litre of water mixed with 10ml of trix liquid sprayed at 7 days interval; T 4 = Spraying of 10ml black seed oil @ 4 ml/Litre of water mixed with 10ml of trix liquid sprayed at 7 days interval; T 5 = Spraying of turmeric powder @ 200g/L of water at 7 days interval. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. The data were recorded on fruit and plant infestation by number, weight and length of individual fruit at early, mid and late fruiting stages; and yield related attributes as well as yield of okra. Spraying of Neem oil @ 4 ml/Litre of water mixed with 10ml of trix liquid sprayed at 7 days interval reduced highest aphid infestation at both vegetative (51.1%) and fruiting stages (54.1%). Highest reduction of plant infestation was (80.4%), highest shoot and fruit borer infestation reduction at different fruiting stage was (61.1%), highest jassid infestation at both vegetative and fruiting stages reduction was (47.2%) and (49.2%) respectively, highest white fly infestation at both vegetative and fruiting stages were (59.6%) and (59.8%) respectively. On the other hand it increased length of individual healthy fruit (16%), weight of individual healthy fruit (26.8%), and final yield of okra (41.2%). Considering Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) and environment aspect, it may be suggested that neem oil may be suitable option than other control.Item EFFECT OF FOLIAR APPLICATION OF GIBBERELLIC ACID ON MORPHO-PHYSIOLOGICAL CHARACTERS AND YIELD OF OKRA (Abelmoschus esculentus L.)(DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL BOTANY, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY , DHAKA -1207, 2018-06) RABBANE, G. M.The experiment was carried out in the farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from March to August 2018 to study the effect of foliar application of gibberellic acid on morpho-physiological characters and yield of okra. The experiment considered of two factors. Factor A – two okra variety; V 1 = BARI dheros-1 and V 2 = Lal teer hybrid dheros and Factor B: Gibberellic acid (GA 3 ) - 4 levels; G 0 = Control (0 ppm GA 3 ), G 1 = 50 ppm GA 3 , G 2 = 100 ppm GA 3 = 150 ppm GA 3 and G 4 = 200 ppm GA 3 . The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data on different growth, yield components and yield of okra were recorded. Different growth and yield parameters were significantly influenced by variety and GA 3 and also with their combinations. Results showed that the variety V 2 (Lal teer hybrid dheros) gave highest yield and yield contributing parameters compared to V 1 (BARI dheros-1). Again, regarding, GA 3 effect, the treatment G 2 (100 ppm GA 3 ) it gave the best performance on yield and yield contributing parameters. Considering treatment combination of variety and GA 3 , the highest SPAD value (68.35 at 50 DAS), length of fruit (11.70 and 14.90 cm at 60 and 90 DAS, respectively), diameter of fruit (1.86 and 1.92 cm at 60 and 90 DAS, respectively), number of fruits plant (24.60), fresh weight of fruits plant -1 (348.20 g), fruit yield plot -1 -1 (6.26 kg) and fruit yield ha (17.88 t) was obtained from the treatment combination of V 2 G 2 whereas the lowest SPAD value (40.65 at 50 DAS ), length of fruit (6.67 and 8.87 cm at 60 and 90 DAS, respectively), diameter of fruit (1.34 and 1.42 cm at 60 DAS and 90 DAS, respectively) number of fruits plant -1 (24.60), fresh weight of fruits plant (198.70 g), fruit yield plot -1 (3.47 kg) and fruit yield ha -1 (9.92 t) were observed from the treatment combination of V 1 G O. These results suggested that gibbrellic acid increased the yield of okra. -1 , G 3 -1Item EFFECT OF PRIMING ON GROWTH, YIELD AND SEED QUALITY OF OKRA (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) VARIETIES(INSTITUTE OF SEED TECHNOLOGY, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY DHAKA 1207, 2016-06) RAHMAN, MD. ZAHEDURThe experiment was conducted into two parts. One was the field to assess the green pods (vegetable) and seed yield, and the other part was laboratory experiment for evaluating of seed quality after priming. The Research Field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka during the period from February-June 2015 to find out the effect of seed priming on yield(green pod)) and seed yield of different okra varieties. The experiment consisted of two factors: Factor A: Three varieties of okra. V : BARI Dheros-1, V 2 : Hybrid Green Soft, V 3 1 : Hybrid Sarika and Factor B: 5 levels of seed priming with different solutions. P 0 : Control (no priming), P : priming with water (hydro priming), P 2 : priming with 3% NaCl solution, P 1 : priming with 3% KCl solution, P 4 : priming with 3% MgSO 4 3 solution. Seeds were primed at the period of 24 hours. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data on different growth and yield contributing characters, and yield were recorded to find out the suitable variety and level of seed priming of okra. The maximum seed yield (0.633 t ha -1 ), green pod yield (18.78 t ha -1 ) were recorded from V (Hybrid green soft). Due to seed priming treatment, maximum seed yield (0.626 t ha 2 ), green pod yield (19.39 t ha -1 ) were recorded from that is priming with 3 % MgSO 4 solution treatment (P 4 ) .In interaction effect of variety and seed priming V 2 P 4 gave the maximum seed yield (0.695 t ha -1 ) and green pod yield (21.30 t ha -1 ) . In case of laboratory experiment the variety Hybrid green soft (V 2 ) and Priming of treatment with 3% MgSO ) showed higher germination (%) and seed vigority .so variety V and Priming treatment P 4 and interaction of V 2 P 4 4 solution (P 2 seen maximum priming for okra. -1 4Item EFFECTIVENESS OF SOME INSECTICIDES AGAINST MAJOR SUCKING PESTS OF OKRA (Abelmoschus esculentus L.)(Department of Entomology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207, 2009-12) DEY, NIPUThe experiment was conducted to study the effectiveness of some insecticides against major sucking pests of okra. The experiment consisted of 8 management practices. Incidence of major sucking insect pests of okra was recorded for the entire cropping season; and the insect pests were Jassid, white fly and aphid, respectively was observed. At total fruiting stage, in number basis, considering the % fruit infestation, the lowest infested fruits per plant in number were recorded from Admire 200 SL @ 0.5 ml/L of water (2.66%), while the highest infested fruits were recorded in control (18.99%). In weight basis % fruit infestation was found from Admire 200 SL @ 0.5 ml/L of water (2.46%), whereas the highest infested fruits were recorded in control (16.88%). The tallest plant was recorded from Admire 200 SL @ 0.5 ml/L of water (227.62 cm), while the shortest plant was found from control (190.96 cm). The longest fruit was observed from Admire 200 SL @ 0.5 ml/L of water (18.69 cm) again the shortest fruit was recorded from control (15.45 cm). The maximum number of fruits per plant was obtained from Admire 200 SL @ 0.5 ml/L of water (32.60) and the minimum number of fruits per plant was found from control (28.20). The highest yield of fruits was observed from Admire 200 SL @ 0.5 ml/L of water (15.94 ton/ha), while the lowest yield per hectare was found from control (11.64 ton). Considering the controlling of okra sucking pest highest benefit cost ratio (2.91) was recorded in the treatment Admire 200 SL @ 0.5 ml/L of water and the lowest benefit cost ratio was recorded from Shobicron 425 EC@ 2 ml/L of water (1.15).Item RESIDUAL EFFECT OF CHITOSAN RAW MATERIAL POWDER ON YIELD PERFORMANCE OF OKRA (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) UNDER TOMATO-OKRA CROPPING SYSTEM(DEPARTMENT OF SOIL SCIENCE, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, SHER-E-BANGLA NAGAR, DHAKA, 2021-06) ZAHARA, MST. FATIMATUJAn experiment was conducted at the central farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207, Bangladesh, during the kharif 1 season (May to September, 2019) to examine the residual effect of chitosan raw material powder on yield performance of okra under tomato-okra cropping system. BARI Dheros-1 was used as test crop. The experiment was carried out in the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with the four replications. The experiments were consist of five treatments having four levels of CHT raw material powder. The treatments were T 1 = 0% CHT raw material powder (control), T 2 = 0.1% CHT raw material powder applied in the previous expt., T 3 = 0.2% CHT raw material powder applied in the previous expt., T 4 = 0.3% CHT raw material powder applied in the previous expt. and T 5 = 0.4% CHT raw material powder applied in the previous expt. .Yield and yield contributing characters positively responded with increasing rate of CHT raw material powder. The fruit yield significantly increased in T 4 treatment 7.31 t ha -1 (45.08% yield increased over the control) compared to T 1 control treatment 5.04 t ha -1 . But T 3 treatment shows statistically identical fruit yield 6.36 t ha -1 (26.19% yield increased over the control) compare to the T 1 control 5.04 t ha -1 . The residual effect of the chitosan raw material powder has a positive effect on the increase of total nitrogen, the highest N value 0.112 % was recorded in T 5 treatments and lowest value was observed in T 1 control treatment. From the three layer of soil the maximum value of the soil pH 6.74, 6.66 and 6.53 of 030 cm, 30-60 cm and 60-90 cm respectively, organic carbon content 0.70%, 0.66% and 0.60% of 0-30 cm, 30-60 cm and 60-90 cm respectively, and organic matter content 1.21%, 1.14%, and 1.03% of 0-30 cm, 30-60 cm and 60-90 cm respectively in the postharvest soils were found in the T 5 treatment and lowest values were observed in the control treatment. Above discussion revealed that the yield and yield contributing characters of okra and some chemical properties of soil were improved due to the residual effect of CHT raw material powder. Residual nitrogen value indicates that the CHT raw material powder has a slow releasing nitrogen supplementation, soil organic carbon and soil pH. These results suggest that the residual effect of CHT raw material powder could play an important role to improve the sustainable soil health.
