Item A STUDY ON DIFFERENT DISEASES DIAGNOSED VIA POST MORTEM IN POULTRY DISEASE DIAGNOSTIC & SURVILLANCE LABORATORY (PDDSL), VC&RI, NAMAKKAL OF TAMIL NADU(Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Chittagong – 4225, Bangladesh, 2015-01) Sarma, SabujA study was conducted to estimate the prevalence’s of different bacterial and viral diseases in poultry of Namakkal region, Tamil Nadu. All information’s are collected during my internship placement(16th June to 2 July, 2014) in Poultry Disease Diagnosis & Survillance Laboratory(PDDSL),VC&RI, Namakkal. Clinical history was taken from the owner of the poultry farm and local students. Post mortem of a total of 210 dead birds were done for the diagnosis purpose. Different poultry species included into the study was broilers, layers, pegion, duck etc. Among 210 birds, highest 80 birds (38%) were affected with infectious bursal disease (IBD), followed by heat stress 13%, new castle disease (ND) 11%, Coccidiosis 6% and Salmonellosis 6%. IBD in layer was found significantly associated with the age of the bird and flock size of the farm. Chicks aged between 16-23 days and flock size between 1175 – 1460 was found to be the most susceptible group having IBD. Diseases found to be highly prevalent in the study area are also economically important and cause significant damage to the farmers. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct effective control measures to reduce the prevalence of these diseases. To design and conduct an effective control measure, need to find out the potential risk factors of the diseases hence need to conduct an extensive study.Item A case report on alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in an indigenous dog(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Khulshi,Chattogram, 2023-11) AKTER, FARJANAA 12 years-old, male indigenous dog was presented to Shahedul Alam Qaderi Teaching Veterinary Hospital (SAQTVH) in Chattogram, Bangladesh with a large tumor on its right front leg. The histopathological findings of the tumor revealed as alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma (ARMS). The tumor was surgically removed from the dog, while there had been no recurrence for five months, the patient died five months post-operatively. The cause of the death would be metastasis which could not be confirmed due to lack of follow up. A histopathological study showed poorly differentiated neoplastic mononuclear cells forming nests in an alveolar pattern. This is the first incidence of ARMS in an indigenous dog in Bangladesh. Despite the limited resources prevented myogenin staining for diagnostic confirmation, the well-contained, defined appearance of the tumor supports the diagnosis of ARMS. This report highlights the challenges in diagnosing and treating ARMS in indigenous dogs and emphasizes the need for further research and diagnostic markers to improve detection and management.Item A case Report on Constipation in Persian Cat(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal |Sciences University, 2022-11) Akhter, SanuThe term "constipation" refers to the irregular or absent passage of excrement via the colon and rectum. Cat constipation can have a variety of known causes, and the clinician's ability to identify the correct etiology in each case will determine how the condition is managed. The doctor may have to decide between surgical and therapeutic approaches to such cases. Numerous factors, including the identification of an underlying cause, the colon's ability to operate, and the results of medical treatment, will affect this decision.A two-year-old male Persian cat weighing about 4 kg was presented with a clinical history of weakness, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, decreased to absent defecation, hyporexia, small, dry feces, abdominal straining, hind-limb paresis, vocalization during defecation, vomiting, and lethargy, which were identified during the clinical examination. After confirmation of constipation by an X-ray report, the cat was treated with lactulose, simethicone, and glycerol, followed by an enema with avolac solution. After 7 days of continuous treatment, the cat was completely recovered.Item A CASE REPORT ON CORRECTION AND MANAGEMENT OF RUMINAL ACIDOSIS IN CATTLE(Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Khulshi-Ctg, 2014-03) Biswas, ShankarA comprehensive study was conducted in a cattle that was suffering from acidosis after feeding of large amount of grain and cooked rice. My study on ruminal acidosis in cattle’’ was conducted during internship program at Madras Veterinary College, Chennai, india. Tentative diagnosis of the case was performed from relevant history, clinical signs, clinical examination of color, odor and consistency of rumen fluid and rumen microflora movements. Confirmation diagnosis was performed by measuring the rumen fluid and blood pH. The predisposing factors of ruminal acidosis were from feeding of cooked rice, rice gruel. The mean temperature, rumen motility, rumen fluid pH and serum pH of the affected cattle 101.5℉, 5.6, 5.5 and 7.2 respectively. The most effective treatment of acidosis in cattle was observed from the use of ruminal alkalizer (magnesium hydroxide, sodium bicarbonate ,5% sodium bicarbonate, some antibiotics potentiated Sulphonamides and Tetracycline along with fluid therapy. This study suggests that carbohydrate in dairy feed should be cautiously in dairy farm to prevent ruminal acidosisItem A Case Report on Correction and Management of Uterine prolapse in a Jersey Cow(Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2017-11) Chakma, ProgayanA two years old Jersey cow with a history of premature calving was bought to the clinics of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Nammakal. The cow showed protrusion of mass through the vulva after its first calving. On clinical examination animal was apparently healthy and confirmed as uterine prolapse. The Uterine prolapse was corrected manually following proper precautionary measures. To prevent the recurrence, Buhner’s suture was applied. Animal had an uneventful recoveryItem A CASE REPORT ON DERMATOPHYTOSIS IN SHEEP(Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2024-12) Mia, MilonDermatophytosis is one of the significant concerns in sheep, impacting animal health, farm productivity, and the economy. As a zoonotic disease, it also poses health risks to humans, making effective management essential both for livestock and human health. Common clinical signs are typically well-demarcated and exhibit a scaly, crusted surface as well as alopecia. Affected skin often becomes thickened and roughened with pronounced scaly and crusty texture while pruritus is not prominent. A one-and-a-half-year-old, local non-descriptive pregnant (2.2 months) sheep was presented to Shahedul Alam Quadery Teaching Veterinary Hospital (SAQTVH), CVASU with complaint of continuous mild to severe alopecia. After careful examination with Wood's lamp and direct visual inspection, lesions were primarily suspected as dermatophytosis. For supporting the initial diagnosis, blood samples were collected and parameters like Hemoglobin, PCV, TEC, TLC, DLC of affected sheep were investigated. For further confirmation, skin scrapings were collected to perform tests like direct microscopic examination using 10% KOH, Gram Staining and fungal culture on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA). Presence of hyphae and growth of fungi confirmed that, the sheep was affected with dermatophytes Trichophyton sp. As the sheep was pregnant, pregnancy safe antifungals were given orally as main drug. For supportive care the zinc supplements as well as vitamin AD3 were included. After a regular monitoring and follow-up for about one month, the sheep had an excellent recovery without any complications.Item A Case Report on Diagnosis and Surgical Management of Squamous Cell Carcinoma in a Local Dog(Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2024-12) Zaman, ShakibSquamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a malignant tumor of squamous epithelial cells that is frequently studied in veterinary medicine, particularly in dogs, due to their higher cancer incidence and similarities to human oncology. SCC is one of the most common carcinomas in domestic animals, typically affecting light-colored or sun-exposed areas such as the legs, nasal planum, and scrotum. This report describes a nine-year-old male dog with a 10 cm prepubic swelling, suspected of being a tumor. Following sedation and anesthesia, the tumor was surgically excised, weighing 200 g, and submitted for histopathological examination. Microscopic analysis confirmed the diagnosis of SCC, showing characteristic proliferating squamous cell nests, keratin pearls, fibrous stroma, angiogenesis, and inflammatory cells. The neoplastic cells exhibited hyperchromatic nuclei, a high nuclear-to-cytoplasmic ratio, and finger-like projections at cell junctions. Postsurgery, the dog recovered well, with normal behavior and health parameters, and wound healing occurred without complications. Encephalitis or meningoencephalitis in adult ruminants is the most frequently recognized form. In this study a Jummuna pari male goat was tentatively diagnosed as having listeriosis based on presenting clinical signs. Teaching veterinary Hospital, CVASUItem A Case Report on FMD in a Holstein Friesian Bull: Necropsy and Histopathological Insights(Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2024-12) Rabina, Sultana LamhiFoot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is an economically significant diseases affecting cattle and other ruminants with distinct clinical manifestations and pathophysiological outcomes. In adult cattle, FMD typically presents with mucosal and dermal lesions. In calves, myocarditis is the predominant cause of mortality which is rare in adult cattle. This case report presents an unusual fatal manifestation of FMD with severe myocardial and systemic lesions in a 3-year-old Holstein Friesian Bull from CODEK Farm, Karnaphuli, Chattogram, Bangladesh, which had been treated for Bovine Ephemeral fever (BEF) four months prior to death. The bull exhibited acute anorexia and fever without external skin lesions prior to death. Necropsy revealed notable gross lesions, including ulcerative lesions in the tongue, hemorrhagic and emphysematous lungs, petechial hemorrhages and necrosis in the heart muscle, enlarged friable liver, hemorrhagic mesenteric lymph nodes, and intestines. Histopathological analysis revealed severe myocarditis with coagulative necrosis of myocardial fibers, interstitial infiltration of lymphocytes, plasma cells, and histiocytes, along with a tigroid heart appearance. Liver histology demonstrated fatty degeneration, central vein congestion, hepatic cord disintegration, and neutrophilic infiltration. Lung tissue showed marked congestion, hemorrhage, necrosis of bronchiolar epithelium, and fibrous tissue proliferation. Brain histology revealed lymphocytic meningitis, glial cell proliferation, and neuronal degeneration, while intestinal mucosa displayed hemorrhagic changes and goblet cell proliferation. The presence of myocardial lesions in this adult cow, a feature more commonly associated with FMD in calves, suggests a potential correlation between prior BEF infection and heightened susceptibility to myocardial damage. BEF’s transient immunosuppressive effects might have predisposed the animal to systemic complications during subsequent FMD infection. This case report underscores the importance of considering prior disease history, particularly immunosuppressive conditions like BEF and other related infections, in understanding mortality risks in FMD outbreaks in adult cattle particularly those involving myocardial lesions. Therefore, robust vaccination strategies, and biosecurity measures are recommended to mitigate such outcomes.Item A case report on histopathology of squamous cell carcinoma in the pinna of a goat(Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2024-12) Khanom, SuraiyaSquamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a malignant neoplasm that originates from the squamous epithelium and is found in various species, including goats, where it is the most common epithelial neoplasm. However, diagnosing SCC, particularly in rare forms like the adenoid variant in the pinna, remains difficult due to the scarcity of instances and the economic consideration of slaughtering the affected goats. This case report describes the diagnosis of an invasive adenoid variant of SCC in the right pinna of a two-year-old male goat which was brought in Shahedul Alam Quaderi Teaching Veterinary Hospital (SAQTVH) in Chattogram, Bangladesh. After developing over the course of three months, the mass was surgically removed and sent for histopathological analysis which revealed well-differentiated anaplastic squamous cells, characterized by large hyperchromatic nuclei, mild pleomorphism, and keratin pearl formation. The tumor cells were arranged in islands with pseudo-glandular patterns, indicative of the adenoid subtype. These findings confirm the diagnosis of grade-1 SCC, adenoid type. This report highlights the histopathological characteristics for accurate diagnosis and adds to the limited literature on SCC in goats.Item A CASE REPORT ON MAGGOT INFESTATION IN RUMINANTS (CATTLE, GOAT AND SHEEP): TREATMENT EFFICACY AND COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Khulshi,Chattogram, 2023-11) Moniruzzaman, MuhammadMyiasis, caused by dipteran fly larvae infestation in living tissues, poses a significant threat to ruminant health globally. This study investigates the treatment efficacy of various protocols for myiasis in cattle, goats, and sheep. The research, conducted over three months at Daganbhuiyan upazila veterinary hospital in the Feni district, the S.A. Quadery teaching veterinary hospital (SAQTVH), and the Hathajari upazila veterinary hospital in the Chittagong district of Bangladesh, focused on 10 affected ruminants. Diagnostic evaluation involved wound history, inspection, odor, exudation, and maggot presence. Three treatment protocols were applied and evaluated based on wound healing, using turpentine oil, povidone iodine, ivermectin, and antibiotics. A comprehensive analysis of wound area and depth reduction indicated the superior effectiveness of a treatment protocol involving turpentine oil and ivermectin, yielding a 97% healing rate in wound depth and 95% in wound area by day 18. The study showcases the superiority of this approach, removing maggots, administering ivermectin, antibiotics, antihistamines, anti-inflammatory drugs, fly repellents, and topical antibiotics. Myiasis incidents were primarily found in the vulva, shoulder, and thigh regions, consistent with previous research. The findings also confirm the commonality of myiasis in cattle and goats compared to other animal species. The study's outcome suggests the effectiveness of the proposed treatment strategy in field conditions, particularly in promoting rapid and extensive wound healing in ruminants affected by myiasis. This research serves as a valuable contribution to the understanding and management of myiasis in veterinary medicine.Item A Case Report on Navel Ill and It’s Management in Calf(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal |Sciences University, 2022-11) MD. Shamim Reza, MD. Shamim RezaA calf of Holstein Friesian breed was brought to SAQ Teaching Veterinary Hospital, CVASU, Chattogram, which was 13 days old with 28 kg b.wt. The complaint of the owner was swollen navel region with hardening and pus coming out from it. The calf was alert, and the appetite was normal at the time of presentation. On physical examination, the temperature was 104 °F (slight pyrexia), pulse and respiratory rates were within the normal range. There was a foul odor present in the navel opening. Based on the history and findings, the calf was diagnosed as navel ill which was corrected surgically. The incision on the umbilical region to successfully remove mass tissue, pus, and debris and added suturing with catheterization for pus and fluid removal and cleaned by povidone-iodine. During suturing, a catheter was set to avoid fluid and pus accumulation later. Marbofloxacin @ 2mg/kg b. wt. for 10 days, ketoprofen @ 3mg/kg b. wt. for 3 days, Pheniramine maleate @ 1mg/kg b. wt. for 7 days was used for post-operative care and all these were given on the intramuscular route. There was also used the povidone-iodine ointment on the operated area topically. The catheter was removed after 3 days and the site was healing gradually. No skin suture was given. Post-operative management was taken in proper way. This study shows that open uncovered method is a reliable technique for castration in cat.Item A CASE REPORT ON POLIOENCEPHALOMALACIA IN GOAT(Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2021-11) DUTTA, SHAYANTANA 9 months old male Jamuna Pari goat weighing about 35 kg was presented with the history of chronic ingestion of grain, recumbency and off-fed. Signs of incoordination, lateral recumbency with opisthotonus posture were identified during the clinical examination. The goat found to be responded promptly with thiamine indicated that, the goat was suffering from polioencephalomalacia. After diagnosed tentatively similar treatment was continued along with dextrose saline (10ml/kg intravenously) and found to be recovered after 4 days.Item A Case Report on Pyometra in a German Shepherd Dog(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Khulshi,Chattogram, 2023-11) Das, Durlove KanteDuring my internship placement, a 5-year-old German Shepherd bitch was admitted at Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Center, CVASU, Dhaka. The bitch was discovered to be restless and to have a history of purulent vaginal discharge. She also was frequently licking her body in the perianal area. Pyometra was hypothesized based on the patient's medical history and clinical symptoms; ultrasonography confirmed the diagnosis. Under general anesthesia, an ovario hysterectomy was advised in order to preserve the bitch's life. After the procedure, a broad spectrum antibiotic, an anti-inflammatory medication, and an antihistaminic medication were prescribed. The fundamental phases of an ovario-hysterectomy were successfully completed. Following the procedure, the owner of the bitch was contacted on a regular basis over phone, and a week after the operation, the patient had fully recovered clinically. In conclusion, ovario hysterectomy is a successful treatment for pyometra in a bitch, and Ultrasonography can be used to confirm the diagnosis.Item A Case Report on Pyometra in a Spitz Dog(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Khulshi-Chattogram, 2022-11) Ismail, MD.A 5-year-old female spitz dog with a history of anorexia, lethargy, fever, polydipsia and purulent vaginal discharge for past 3 days was presented in Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Center, Purbachal, Dhaka. An abdominal ultrasonography was performed that revealed distended uterus with an anechoic to hyperechoic fluid. Based on the history, clinical signs, physical examination and laboratory results the condition was diagnosed as open cervix pyometra which was successfully corrected by ovario-hysterectomy.Item A CASE REPORT ON PYOTHORAX OF CAT(Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2024-12) Talokder, Md. SeamPyothorax is a rare but potentially fatal illness in cats caused by the buildup of pus in the pleural cavity, which is usually caused by bacterial infections such as., and This case report presents a four-year-old female cat with respiratory discomfort, open-mouth breathing, and a history of coughing after eating. The diagnosis was verified by clinical examination, thoracic radiography, and cytological study of pleural fluid. After thoracocentesis and draining out of pleural effusion, systemic antibacterial and supportive diuretic therapy were administered. The clinical condition of the cat improved significantly, with the pleural effusion resolved and respiratory function restored. This case emphasizes the need for early detection and appropriate intervention in pyothorax management, particularly in resource-constrained settings where advanced diagnostic and surgical alternatives may not be readily available. It also emphasizes the usefulness of a realistic and low-cost treatment regimen.Item A CASE REPORT ON STRONGYLOIDES PAPILLOSUS IN A GOAT(Clinical report submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Faculty of Veterinary Medicine CHITTAGONG VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES UNIVERSITY KHULSHI, CHITTAGONG-4225, 2015-12) Sultana, IreenStrongyloides papillosus is a gastrointestinal parasite, which is very common in small ruminant and causes serious health problem in all over Bangladesh. This case study enumerates the clinical sings, postmortem findings as well as detail diagnosis and treatment protocol. A one year old female cross goat, weighing 30 kgs was brought to the Sahedul Alam Quaderi Teaching Veterinary Hospital (SAQTVH), Chittagong Veterinary Animal Sciences University (CVASU) with the history of loss of appetite and dullness for last 15 days. On the basis of clinical sings (diarrhea, anemia, dermatitis), followed by coproscopy of (Embryonated egg) and clinico-biochemical parameters (Hemoglobin-2gm %), the case was diagnosed as Strongyloidiasis. The condition of the goat was not improved after using hematinic mixture and steroid drug. The goat become weak gradually due to severe anemia and loss of appetite and finally died after 2nd day of treatment. Postmortem (PM) examination was conducted to further confirm the causes of dead and found that, the mucous present in intestine as well as pneumonia which may confirm the strongyloidosis of this.Item A Case Report on Surgical Correction and Management of Vaginal Tumor of Cow at VCRI, Namakkal, India(A Clinical report submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Faculty of Veterinary Medicine CHITTAGONG VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES UNIVERSITY Khulshi, Chittagong-4225, 2018-09) Chandra Halder, BhubonA 4.5-years-old Kangayam cow was admitted to the Large Animal Clinics, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal, India. According to the owner’s complain, the cow had a problem during standing position for several days with difficulty in urination and frequent sanguineous discharge from the vagina. The cow was non-pregnant, showing no estrus sign and the last calving was one-and-half-years back. Appetite was normal and the general physical examination revealed no other abnormalities. Clinical examination revealed a tumor like mass attached to the lateral side of vagina, which was confirmed by ultrasonography. After performing the high epidural anesthesia with lidocaine (5mg/Kg) the mass was surgically removed. The dimensions of the mass were 8.5× 4 × 5.4 cm and 100gm in weight. Macroscopically, it was relatively well circumscribed with lobulated and ulcerated surface like cauliflower appearance. After cross section, the mass was homogenously creamy in color with foci of necrosis or hemorrhage. Microscopically, the growth was composed of spindle-shaped fibroblastic tumor that formed interlacing and intersecting bundles. The neoplastic cells showed pleomorphism, karyomegaly with slight nuclear hyperchromatism. On the basis of site, biological behavior, macroscopic and microscopic characteristics, the mass was diagnosed as a well-differentiated fibrosarcoma. A combined drug of penicillin-streptomycin at a dose rate of 30,000 IU/kg body weight for the penicillin and 10 mg/kg body weight for streptomycin was administrated parenterally for 5 days postoperatively. Meloxicam and Pheniramine Maleate were given as NSAID and antihistamine respectively at the rate of 0.5mg/Kg body weight parenterally for 5 days. The cow was fully recovered after 2 weeks of surgery and there was no recurrence found after 2 months of follow up observation.
