Abstract
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a malignant neoplasm that originates from the squamous epithelium and is found in various species, including goats, where it is the most common epithelial neoplasm. However, diagnosing SCC, particularly in rare forms like the adenoid variant in the pinna, remains difficult due to the scarcity of instances and the economic consideration of slaughtering the affected goats. This case report describes the diagnosis of an invasive adenoid variant of SCC in the right pinna of a two-year-old male goat which was brought in Shahedul Alam Quaderi Teaching Veterinary Hospital (SAQTVH) in Chattogram, Bangladesh. After developing over the course of three months, the mass was surgically removed and sent for histopathological analysis which revealed well-differentiated anaplastic squamous cells, characterized by large hyperchromatic nuclei, mild pleomorphism, and keratin pearl formation. The tumor cells were arranged in islands with pseudo-glandular patterns, indicative of the adenoid subtype. These findings confirm the diagnosis of grade-1 SCC, adenoid type. This report highlights the histopathological characteristics for accurate diagnosis and adds to the limited literature on SCC in goats.
