The cooperation was based on inter-library loan and preparation and publication of union catalogue. In Bangladesh, the ways of cooperation in building resources and access to information resources was not easy and effective in manual way. Since last decade, due to rapid emergence of ICTs in Library field, ways of library resource building and resource sharing have become more easier and efficient than manual way. In the digital era, the term “Interoperability” has become main focusing issue in the field of library resource sharing or information exchange. But questions have been arisen when libraries started to computerize their bibliographic information using different platforms. When the libraries using different platforms, i.e.- Integrated Library System, Single Alone Software, simple Script Language, etc., try to interoperate among themselves, data exchange feasibility becomes main issue. There are many International Standards in developing Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) followed by different libraries in Bangladesh which create major barriers in building interoperability because of inconsistency among themselves. This study was carried out to identify the data exchange feasibility among the university libraries, to show how the inconsistency among different platforms can be removed and thus how university libraries can join in a uniform platform. In the study those university libraries were selected as sample which are in front position in applying ICTs in their work settings. These selected libraries represents most of the automated university libraries in Bangladesh. A questionnaire was developed based on the present ICTs trends in university libraries. This questionnaire judges the capability of the libraries to be interoperable through Z39.50/SRW protocol. This protocol was in main concern when developing the interoperability model. In the study, 7 libraries were found that can create MARC format records. These libraries can directly host bibliographic records into Z39.50 Server. The rest libraries cannot produce MARC format records, but follow MARC fields in catalogue data entry. To convert the bibliographic records of these university libraries into MARC format, MARCedit tool was used. After converting into MARC format, these records can be hosted in Z39.50 Server. Thus, we can achieve our desirable interoperability among most of the automated university libraries in Bangladesh.Item Use and applications of library software in university libraries of Bangladesh(University of Dhaka, 2014-05-12) Rahman, Md. MizanurItem An examination of library anxiety among students at Dhaka University(University of Dhaka, 2014-05-14) Aziz, Mst. The aim of the study was to explore the status of digital library initiatives in medical university and college libraries of Bangladesh. To meet this aim, the study analyzed the collection, staff, ICT, automation, e-resources and digitization status in medical university and college libraries of the country; explored the libraries readiness to carry out digitization activities; the researcher analyzed the prevailing digitization practices, projects, identified the major issues and hindrances affecting library digitization practices and suggested recommended activities to improve the medical college libraries poor condition and also suggests a Medical College Taskforce on Building Digital Library. Keeping in view the purpose and objective of the study the study used the mixed method research design by using qualitative and quantitative techniques. For the demand of the study the researcher use the survey research by using interviews and semi structured questionnaire techniques for data collection. In order to collect the necessary information for research work, the researcher visit to the 27 number of interviewees from 23rd September to 22 nd October. The study has been discussed under six chapters which consists of background of the study with basic description of digital library, literatures tat reviewed, methodology that adopted to successfully complete the research, status of ICT, automation, e-resources and digitization in Bangladesh, data analysis and finding, problems faced by medical libraries, recommending suggestions and summery of the study. The findings of the study revealed a very shocking library condition in medical university and college of Bangladesh. The study found that, very few libraries just take automation plans; even few libraries do not have any computers and librarian. Except BSMMU, no medical college library is members of any e-resource consortium. They have so many problems that impede the development of libraries, such as efficient staff, fund, e-resources, technologies, integrated library software, no digitization plan or initiatives etc. The findings of this study will be useful to library planners at all levels in establishing more concrete collaborative plans for national digital library system in medical colleges. To remove the darkness the Government of Bangladesh along with medical university and colleges should take initiatives to develop “Digital Library” nationwide. The researcher has tried to find out every pro and cons of the medical university and college libraries, so that everyone who wants to know about this sector they will be able to get useful information.Item Exploring the opportunities of MOOC: A model plan for the library(University of Dhaka, 2015-04-13) Noor, Nazmus SalehinThe purpose of this research is to examine the current opportunities of massive open online courses (MOOCs) and the library’s involvement in this worldwide movement.
