Mustaqim; Shamme, Farjana Bashar; Rahman, Md. AshiqurThe Bangladesh Economic Review 2022 states that 4.03 percent of the overall budget is spent on agriculture, food security, fisheries, and livestock. Total subsidies for farmers amount to Tk 9,500 crore, while incentives for using new machinery amount to Tk 3,220 crore. The government of Bangladesh has also taken other measures to help the farmers. However, farmers are not actually in a particularly prosperous position. As a nation built on agriculture, improving a lot of farmers is essential to Bangladesh’s economic health. The research aims to assess whether farmers can successfully implement a different approach to selling. One hundred twenty key opinion leaders of an 8-10 person farmers’ organization were surveyed to provide evidence for the elements that affect direct sales. Age, money, knowledge, and technical literacy were determined to be demographic parameters that have an impact on the effectiveness of agricultural digitalization in general. To meet the minimum requirements for selling their goods to consumers in their homes, farmers must meet certain conditions. Four hypotheses have been developed to discover the linkage between farmers' direct market participation and support in financial, technological, supply chain management, and marketing mix support. The reliability test, correlation test, descriptive statistics, and regression analysis have been performed. The findings show that technical support has more positive relationships with farmers' direct marketing, whereas other independent variables exhibit weaker positive relationships with the dependent variable. In addition, farmers believe they deserve financial compensation for their time and effort in responding to the survey.Item A Study of Marketing Mix Adaptation Requirement with Export Performance by the Domestic Exporters of Leather Goods to the International Market(Journal of Business and Technology, 2006-07) Karim, Khondaker Sazzadul; Rahman, Md. LutforAccording to the MIXADAPT model, export performance depends upon the marketing mix adaptation. Many studies found the existence of a mostly positive effect of marketing mix adaptation on export performance, even though controversies still exist regarding the determinants of export performance and whether there are other internal and external determinants other than marketing mix that have an impact on export performance. In the case of the leather industry in Dhaka city, no significant relationship was found between export performance and adaptation of the marketing mix. Price adaptation is the only variable that significantly affects export performance. The findings suggest further research incorporating other internal and external variables such as management attitude and perceptions, management characteristics, industry characteristics, foreign market characteristics, and domestic market characteristics to be incorporated with the MIXADAPT model to explain the export performance of the leather industry in Bangladesh.Item A STUDY ON THE IMPACT OF E-COMMERCE ADOPTION FOR ENHANCING SUPPLY CHAIN EFFICIENCY IN BANGLADESH(ZIBELINE INTERNATIONAL PUBLICATION, 2023-06-09) Abtahi, Ahanaf Tahmid; Farhana, Nazia; Hasan, Md MehediThis study examines the impact of e-commerce adoption on supply chain efficiency in small and mediumsized enterprises (SMEs) in Bangladesh. Faruque; Kamal, ASM Maksud; Sikder, Abdul Halim Farhad; Parveen, ZakiaAn investigation was conducted to assess the air quality impact and possible health risk of solid waste disposal on surrounding environment of Matuail landfill site in Dhaka city. Three different locations were selected for soil and plant samples. Leachate samples were collected from active dumping area and fish samples from treated leachate pond. Seven different locations were selected for air quality and health risk assessments. It is found that Cu, Zn and Pb concentrations were high in the soil of dumping and abandoned areas that exceeded the permissible limits. The heavy metal concentrations in plant samples did not show any significant contamination except Cu, Zn and Pb that also exceeded the permissible limits. The concentrations of DO, BOD, COD and TDS of the untreated leachate were found 1.34 mg L-1, 96 mg L-1, 1343 mg L-1 and 7120 mg L-1, respectively that exceeded inland surface water standard but after treatment its concentrations were found within the permissible limits. The presence of heavy metals in leachate sample was not contaminated as it was below the toxic limits. The bioaccumulation of fish sample from treated pond is extremely high of Fe, Mn, Pb and Ni that exceeded the WHO’s permissible limits. The air quality results showed that the Matuail landfill surrounding sites did not have an adverse effect. The air pollutants such as NOx, SO2, SPM, PM10, PM2.5 and CO contents are within national standard limits. Overall, the risk assessments demonstrated that potential air emissions from the Matuail Landfill site do not pose public health risks. It is clear that if the dumping landfill site is properly managed by segregating the waste according to their source, then this waste could be used as compost or organic manures. However, by maintaining disposal sites with controlled placement and proper treatment of the waste may reduce the possible adverse impact on air, human health and agri-environmental eco-systems. Further investigation on the impacts related to the final disposal of solid waste and the future landfill requirement at different composting and a comparative study is suggested.Item An Assessment of Individual Income Tax Structure: Bangladesh Panorama.(ICMAB, 2014-05) Alam, Mohammad Faridul; Masud, Mohammad ZakariaThis paper aims at analyzing the prevailing individual income tax structure in Bangladesh. In this paper issues relating to tax burden on various income groups are taken into consideration on the basis of average tax rate. The tax compliance rate of individual taxpayers is not satisfactory in Bangladesh due to poorly designed tax structure. The study concludes that the individual tax compliance rate can be enhanced by taking necessary reform measures in the prevailing individual income tax structure in the form of restructuring the income slabs for the lower and mid level income earning people, lowering the tax rates, and simplifying the overall tax procedure.Item An Assessment of Non-Tax Revenue Sources in Bangladesh(IUP Publications, 2009-08) Alam, Mohammad Faridul; Shil, Nikhil ChandraIn Bangladesh, the fundamental problem behind arresting the revenue deficit is the rising expenditure unmatched by corresponding means of finance. Of total revenue, the revenue from non-tax sources is nearly one-fifth and its share in GDP has shown a stable trend over the years. This paper mainly focuses on the study of non-tax revenue performance in Bangladesh. The contribution of non-tax revenue, although erratic in terms of growth rate, has shown substantial increase in terms of absolute amount over the period, 1997-98 to 2006-07. Although, various reform initiatives have been taken to improve the tax performance, the initiatives are highly insignificant in case of non-tax revenue. The performance of non-tax revenue can significantly be improved through effective and efficient policy measures, which may help the country to cope with the fiscal imbalance in resource mobilization.Item An Evaluation of the Credit Rating Practices in Bangladesh.(Department of Marketing, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2007-06) Khan, Md. Morshed Hasan; Masud, Mohammad Zakaria; Alam, Mohammad FaridulThe concept of Credit Rating and the participation of Credit Rating Agencies (CRA) in the capital market of Bangladesh are in elementary stage. But the role it can play is no way questionable though a widespread criticism exits regarding their practices like corporate governance practices, potential conflicts of interest, alleged anticompetitive or unfair practices and diligence and competence. This paper focuses on two questions. First, to what extent does empirical evidence supports the criticisms? Second, what attempt can address these issues? To fulfill the objectives a close study has been conducted through interview of former & existing financial analysts and responsible officials of the CRAS in Bangladesh. And finally this study reveals the fact that all the mentioned criticisms are most of the cases true because of existing legal environment and lack of monitoring over the CRAS practices by the market regulators.Item An integrated fuzzy optimal location selection model for setting up floating solar photovoltaic plant: Implications for energy sustainability in Bangladesh(Elsevier, 2025-03-01) Anam, Zahidul; Bari, A. B. M. Mainul; Basak, Dipayan; Foysal, Md. Atik; Raihan, Asif; Md. Towfiqul Islam, Abu RezaFloating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV) plants have emerged as a promising solution, harnessing solar energy while utilizing water bodies effectively, especially for emerging economy countries with limited land resources like Bangladesh. However, selecting an optimal location for such a solar plant requires a comprehensive evaluation of multiple criteria. This research, therefore, proposes a multi-criteria decision-making framework that integrates the Fuzzy Best Wort Method (F-BWM) and Fuzzy Combined Compromise Solution (F-CoCoSo) method to determine the optimal location for establishing a floating solar photovoltaic plant in Bangladesh. Through literature review and expert validation, ten key criteria were identified for suitable site selection for FSPV. Relative weights of the identified evaluation criteria were calculated using the F-BWM method. Following that, the F-CoCoSo approach was employed to rank the eight alternative potential sites in Bangladesh based on the FBWM weights. The F-BWM result indicates that solar irradiance, terrain elevation, and conflicts over water access are the three most significant factors in selecting the site for FSPV installation. F-CoCoSo results identified the Kaptai Lake, located in southeastern Bangladesh, and Barapukuria Coal Mine’s Lake, located in northwestern Bangladesh, as the two most preferable sites for installing FSPV plants. The research findings are expected to help academicians, policymakers, energy planners, and investors by offering a nuanced understanding of the significance of various technical, environmental, and social criteria for FSPV installation projects. Additionally, it offers a robust framework for site selection that enhances the efficiency, sustainability, and feasibility of FSPV projects in Bangladesh.Item An Overview of Research on E-Commerce Adoption by SMEs and some Research Questions from Bangladesh standpoints(AIUB, 2013) Islam, MMObaidulItem Analysis of Search Engine Optimization Algorithm(IJARCCE, 2016-05) Mehzabul Hoque NahidSEO stands for “search engine optimization.” It is the process of getting traffic from the free, organic, editorial or natural search results on search engines. The earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users, and these visitors can be converted into customers. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines. As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content, HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic. As of May 2015, mobile search has finally surpassed desktop search, Google is developing and pushing mobile search as the future in all of its products and many brands are beginning to take a different approach on their internet strategies.Item Analysis of the factors affecting logistics capability and strategy on firm performance for the garment industry in Bangladesh(2020-07-17) Rattanawiboonsom, Vichayanan; Khan, Md Sazzadur RahmanThis paper is devoted to prioritize and evaluate the key logistics capabilities and strategies to achieve a competitive advantage for superior firm performance. Cloud computing represents a shift away from computing as a product that is purchased, to computing as a service that is delivered to consumers over the internet from large-scale data centers – or “clouds”. Whilst cloud computing is obtaining growing popularity in the IT industry, academic appeared to be lagging behind the developments in this field. It also implies a service oriented designed architecture, reduced information technology overhead for the end-user, good flexibility, reduced total cost of private ownership, on-demand services and many other things. This paper discusses the concept of “cloud” computing, some of the issues it tries to address, related research topics, and a “cloud” implementation available todayItem Assessing Sustainability Governance and Its Dimensions(SAGE Publications, 2021-12-04) Islam, Mohammad Sirajul; Shamsuddoha, MohammadSustainable performance is essential to stakeholders. Organizations have invested resources to attain competitive advantage, and finally, they get success. But organizations fail to achieve sustainable performance despite having substantial resources. Thus, scholars have realized the need for sustainability governance (SUGO) as an alternative solution to resolve these challenges. The need for this empirical study has arisen due to a lack of validated measurements. The objective of this study is to evaluate and validate the SUGO and its dimensions. To validate the suggested model, this study uses a mixed-method approach. Content analysis (Nvivo-11) describes dimensions in qualitative research, and it explains that all measurements and items are valid and reliable. In addition, partial least squares (PLS)-based structural equation modeling (SEM) (SmartPLS-3) is used to analyse the data collected in the quantitative survey. The results show that all hypotheses are statistically significant, and measurements reflect the SUGO. Furthermore, the results prove that SUGO is a second-order construct, containing four key dimensions: corporate sustainability, knowledge integration, stakeholder collaboration and performance incentive. Finally, the implications of outcomes are argued in the context of theory and practice and suggest further research direction.Item Assessing the impact of blockchain technology on the overall performance of sustainable supply chains: an analytical perspective(Springer Link, 2023-10-19) Sahabuddin, M; Tan, Q; Khokhar, Maryam; Hossain, M A; Alam, Mohammad Faridul; Khan, WahuduzzamanSupply chain control and sustainability can be significantly improved using distributed ledger technologies such as blockchain. On the other hand, Optimism, Innovativeness, Insecurity and Discomfort have positive and significant contributions on the Usefulness. The study also revealed that Ease of Use has positive and significant contribution on the Usefulness. Lastly, it was found that Ease of Use and Usefulness have positive and significant contribution on the Intention to use. Teaching remotely is still a novel concept, and it is more difficult for people who have not done it before. Many teachers became burned out as a result of trying to adjust to new teaching methods, especially after the lockdown began. They were having a difficult time since there was so much ambiguity. When a teacher is wellversed in communication tools, it can improve learning efficiency. When they are properly trained, deploying engaging features of virtual learning, such as audio-visual lessons, quizzes, and so on, becomes simple, andstudents become eager to learn more. Teachers can plan their classes, prepare and master technology and create innovative and stimulating discussion topics (Mishra et al., 2020). They need to utilize a variety of technological options. They can rehearse virtual classroom management with colleagues if they face any difficulty. All of the aforementioned abilities can be honed with the assistance of an integrated academic system. Teachers can be trained by educational institutions to ensure a smooth learning process through the use of ICT (information and communication technologies) (Scherer et al., 2021; Mishra et al., 2020). The training will assist teachers in efficiently taking online classes. Institutions should ensure that teachers are well-suited to teach online and are skilled at keeping students engaged during remote learning. To make every chapter engaging, aspects such as videos, slides, images and digital copies of books and workbooks can be used. This allows students to receive personalized support and counseling in order to maintain their motivation (Sahu et al., 2022; Lapitan et al., 2021). Every other day, group doubt resolution classes ensure that there are no gaps in learning (Lapitan et al., 2021). All teachers require is a digital mindset, the appropriate tools and a committed approach (Sahu et al., 2022). If teachers can hold their students’ attention, they can easily deliver an effective learning experience (Lapitan et al., 2021). Originality/value – This study was conducted to identify technological preparedness of faculty members of private universities in Bangladesh during COVID-19 period. Some studies were there to assess such kind of preparedness but none of those used TAM and technology readiness model either in isolation or in combination. Also, this paper focused on teachers’ readiness in contrast to students’ readiness specific to private universities.
