In this experiment the design of PV/T dual system is developed, using both air and water circulation as heat extraction medium modifying the air channel. The shape of painted black ribbed surfaces at the bottom of air channel has been used as trapezoidal, Saw tooth backward ,Saw tooth forward and Flat plate as reference. The capacity of all set up is similar and having same dimensions. The process of natural convection is applied to circulate the air and water to increase the system efficiency. The variation in the net output is studied due the difference of air channel.Item Comparison among different migration paths for cellular deployment in Bangladesh in collaboration with grameenphone(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-10-15) Ahmed, Tanjir; Mosleh, Md. Mukib; Ibrahim, TouheedThe thesis work is a collaboration between Islamic University of Technology and the leading cellular operator of Bangladesh, Grameenphone Ltd. (Telenor) and aims to provide a thorough technological analysis and business case comparison for different migration paths to the next generation technology for the operator. There has been a tremendous growth in service quality and competition among the cellular operators and a continuous demand for network up gradation to a better and efficient cellular technology. Worldwide 3G networks roll out began since 2000 to cater the ever increasing data demand for mobile broadband solution. But unfortunately in Bangladesh, due to regulatory issues, 3G technology couldn’t have been implemented till now. After so many years, The Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has finished all the required ground works and is expected to arrange a spectrum frequency auction in Q1 of 2013 where in total 5 concessions will be allocated in 2.1 Ghz band, 10 MHz each. Each concession will be a technology neutral one. All the cellular operators of the country are expected to bid on that auction including Grameenphone. Technology neutrality allows the operator to choose and deploy the technology best suited for their business. Till now (October 2012), the next generation technology LTE has been successfully rolled out in 105 networks. So, whether to deploy 3G or go for the next generation technology LTE bypassing 3G/UMTS remains a question any operator, in this case Grameenphone. This thesis tries to answer this question in accordance with Bangladesh’s cellular market perspective taking into considerations the technological aspects as well as a cost revenue analysis done by data provided by Grameenphone Ltd. for both migration paths- 3G (UMTS/HSPA) and LTE.Item Solar Home Power Supply Unit: Perspective-Bangladesh(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT) The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-10-30) Rahman, Mohammad Taibur; Islam, Md. In these designs embedded system architectures are used which are comprised of software programmable components accompanied with dedicated hardware processing modules integrated into the VLSI chip [1]. Also emerging new designs which are based on heterogeneous embedded system architectures, offer flexible low-cost design in a short design cycle, integrating multiple software programmable components together with dedicated hardware components into a single cost-efficient VLSI chip. With the help of new technology it has now become possible not only to introduce programmability in these single chip architectures but also maintaining most of the advantages of customized VLSI solutions [1].Once some applications which were too difficult for computing hardware, now with impressive advances in Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) technology are becoming more feasible[2]. Utilizing the prebuilt logic blocks and programmable routing resources engineers and designers now configure FPGAs (FPGA stands for Field Programmable Gate Array) to implement custom hardware. The configuration of FPGA is specified with the help of hardware description language. FPGA technology is now adopting among the engineers scientists at all levels of expertise as higher level tools evolve to deliver the fruits of reprogrammable silicon [2]. Rezwanul; Wahiduzzaman, Md.; Tanmoy, M. M. Reazul HaqueSmart antenna manipulates the impinging signals on various antenna elements through array processing so that the main lobe is formed towards the desired direction and nulls are placed towards the interference or unwanted directions. Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation is an important part of direction of arrival based beam forming. The direction of arrival algorithm computes the angle of arrival of all impinging signals. A systemic study of smart antenna system and comparison of the performance of the Bartlett and MUltiple SIgnal Classification(MUSIC) DOA algorithms along with different non blind beam forming algorithms through simulation have been extensively analyzed in this thesis work. Our comparative analysis shows that MUSIC algorithm is highly accurate and stable and provides high angular resolutions compared to Bartlett algorithm. So MUSIC algorithm can be widely used in mobile communication to estimate the DOA of arriving signals. Among LMS, SMI, RLS beam forming algorithms RLS algorithm is the fastest to converge the weights through least computational complexity.Item Simulations and Performance Analyses of Multi-user Alamouti’s Space Time Block Coded MIMO CDMA Systems(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Mamun, M. Shahriar; Hussain, Jamil; Haque, Md. HasibulThis thesis explores Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems and conducts a comprehensive study of its fundamentals. The combination of space time block code and CDMA system has the aptitude of increasing performance in cellular network. With a simplistic approach, the performance of this system is compared with the typical CDMA system which manifests that, using space time block code and multiple transmit antennas for multi-user CDMA system provide remarkable performance without any need of extra processing or sacrifice in bandwidth. Along with space-time block code, space-time trellis code is also analyzed and compared theoretically on the basis of MIMO implementation, with extended performance evaluation. For further performance analyses, diversity techniques have been manifested and this insight has been comprehended by mathematically manipulating Alamouti’s transmit diversity scheme, which surely offers remarkable performance improvement, which, later, has been justified from the results obtained from simulations.Item Wireless Sensor Network: applications and Analysis of Routing Protocols(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Jalil, Lukong Abdu; Walizada, Nasratullah; Hassani, SaidWireless sensor networks consist of small nodes with sensing, computation, and wireless communications capabilities. Recent advances in wireless sensor networks have led to many new protocols specifically designed for sensor networks where energy awareness is an essential consideration. Most of our attention, however, has been given to the routing protocols since they might differ depending on the application and network architecture. A wireless sensor network (WSN) has important applications such as remote environmental monitoring and target tracking. This has been enabled by the availability, particularly in recent years, of sensors that are smaller, cheaper, and intelligent. These sensors are equipped with wireless interfaces with which they can communicate with one another to form a network. The design of a WSN depends significantly on the application, and it must consider factors such as the environment, the application’s design objectives, cost, hardware, and system constraints. This project surveys recent routing protocols for sensor networks and presents detailed account of various routing protocols. The project also talks about the basic network topologies in wireless sensor network. The basic network topologies include fully connected, mesh, star, ring, tree, bus etc. Again we have presented various system architectures, design issues and challenges in wireless sensor network. Solution to some of these challenges and the applications of wireless sensor networks are also provided. Lastly we conclude with open research issues in WSNItem Performance comparison among MIMO techniques at different interference levels for LTE(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Sabri, Yussef Ali; Thiam, Mamadou; Warsame, Mohamed abdullahiItem Linear and non linear controller design for DC-DC converter(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Aslam, Muhammad Faizan; Fateh, Saif-Al-Islam; Anwar, Muhammad UsmanDC-DC power converters play an important role in powering telecom and computing systems. Zahidul Islam; Iftekhar, Ahmed Tashfin; Mahmud, Tanvir HassanThis thesis tries to develop a model for the missile and for the aircraft simply using those dynamic force model and transfer function and to explore the potential of using soft computing methodologies such as Evolutionary algorithm(EA) –Differential algorithm(DE) in controllers and their advantages over conventional methods. PID controller, being the most widely used controller in industrial applications, needs efficient methods to control the different parameters of the plant. This thesis asserts that the conventional approach of PID tuning is not very efficient due to the presence of nonlinearity in the system of the plant. The output of the conventional PID system has a quite high overshoot and settling time. Two problem has been taken from a paper which has been considered as the dynamic model for missile and aircraft ,based on those problem the project progress. The main focus of this project is to apply evolutionary algorithm such as differential algorithm to design and tuning of PID controller to get an output with better dynamic and static performance. The application of differential algorithm(DE) to the PID controller imparts it the ability of tuning itself automatically in an on-line process makes it give an optimum output by searching for the best set of solutions for the PID parameters. The project also discusses the benefits and the short-comings of both the methods. SalmanInfant incubator provides a controlled environment for newborns needing special care, such as those born prematurely. By placing an infant in an incubator, doctors and nurses can set and monitor different aspects of the child’s environment in order to create ideal conditions for survival and moreover it protect infants from pollutants and infection. Infant incubators and other advances in medical technology have made it possible for small or premature babies to survive in higher numbers than they did in the middle of the 20th century. Design and development of microcontroller based temperature and humidity controller for an infant incubator monitors and controls these two parameters constantly which are very critical for the normal growth of the new born (premature) babies In this thesis work, focus has been to develop: 1. Hardware for temperature and humidity control 2. Compatible software This system can automatically control the infant’s temperature at optimum level usingPID concept and to maintain high relative humidity so as to minimize the thermal loss. The developed system must be user friendly, cost effective and accurate.
