NurulItem Solar Tracking Device(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Nyeme, Md.Zulkar; Rahman, Md.TowfiqurThe recent decades have seen the increase in demand for reliable and clean form of electricity derived from renewable energy sources. As we are on the verge of exhaust-ing fossil fuels, we require some other promising energy source to fuel our daily needs. Solar energy is the one of best option for the primary source of energy in the future, as it is renewable, eco-friendly and safe to use. An Intelligent Solar Tracker is a device (onto which solar panels are fitted) which tracks the motion of the sun across the sky ensuring that the maximum amount of sun-light strikes the panels throughout the day. The Intelligent Solar Tracker will attempt to navigate to the best angle of exposure of light from the sun. The challenge remains to maximize the capture of the rays from the sun for conversion into electricity. This paper presents the steps of implementing a single-axis solar tracking controller. This is done so that rays from the sun fall perpendicularly unto the solar panels to maximize the capture of the rays by pointing the solar panels towards the sun and following its path across the sky, hence increasing electricity and efficiency.Item Power Flow Analysis using MATLAB(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-10-15) Naser, Mohammad; NajibullahItem Linear and non linear controller design for DC-DC converter(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Aslam, Muhammad Faizan; Fateh, Saif-Al-Islam; Anwar, Muhammad UsmanDC-DC power converters play an important role in powering telecom and computing systems. With the speed improvement and cost reduction of digital control, digital controller is becoming a trend for DC-DC converters in addition to existed digital monitoring and management technology. In this thesis, digital control is investigated for DC-DC converters applications. To deeply understand the whole control systems, DC-DC converter models are investigated based on averaged state-space modeling. Considering Buck DC-DC converter, the thesis takes it as an example for digital control modeling and implementation. In Chapter 2, unified steady-state DC models and small-signal models are developed for DC-DC buck converters. Based on the models, digital controller design is implemented in Chapter 3. In Chapter 4, Fuzzy logic control is introduced and based on that knowledge Fuzzy controller is designed for the control of buck converter. It should be noted that Fuzzy logic control provides superior performance than conventional PI and PID controller especially during under load transient condition.Item Study & Performance Comparison of Positive Feedback Match-Line (ML) Sensing Schemes for Low Power TCAM(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Rahaman, Md. Istiaque; Islam, Iftekharul; Galib, Md. Mehedi HassanTernary content addressable memories (TCAMs) are hardware-based parallel lookup tables with bit-level masking capability. They are attractive for applications such as packet forwarding and classification in network routers especially in internet applications. Despite the attractive features of TCAMs, high power consumption is one of the most critical drawbacks of TCAM. Hence reducing the power consumption without sacrificing the speed and voltage margin is the most difficult part in TCAM design. Among different match line sensing schemes, the use of positive feedback in the sense amplifiers is one of the best solutions to this problem. The main feather of this work is to perform comparison among different existing positive feedback based match line sensing schemes, i.e., mismatch dependent, active feedback and resistive feedback schemes using four performance parameters which are (i) search time (ii) voltage margin (iii) peak dynamic power and (iv)worst case energy consumption. All the schemes are simulated using 130nm, 1.2V CMOS logic. It is shown in this work that the energy saving is maximum (68.77%) in resistive feedback scheme compared to conventional CR-MLSA. Again, comparing among the positive feedback based schemes it is found that the resistive feedback provides with the best speed. Mismatch dependent scheme provides the best voltage margin and peak dynamic power. The worst case energy consumption is least in Active feedback scheme among all three positive feedback based scheme.Item Design and test of ds89s52 based trainer board(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-10-15) Quader, Md.Irfanul; Zaman, Tanzeeb; Islam, Yazdani UlThe main difference between a microprocessor and microcontroller is that a Microcontroller has inbuilt peripherals like Timers, USART, Interrupt controller etc whereas in a Microprocessor these have to be interfaced as separate ICs. In this project we use the Microcontroller AT89s52 from the ATMEL corp. The AT89s52 is a low power; high performance CMOS 8-bit microcontroller with 4Kbytes of Flash programmable and erasable read only memory (EPROM) .The device is manufactured using Atmel’s high density nonvolatile memory technology and is compatible with the industry standard MCS-51 instruction set and pin out. The on-chip Flash allows the program memory to be reprogrammed in-system or by a nonvolatile memory programmer. By combining a versatile 8-bit CPU with Flash on monolithic chip, the Atmel At89s52 is a powerful microcomputer which provides a highly-flexible and cost effective solution to many embedded control applications.Item Design and simulation of a 2.4 ghz microstrip patch antenna(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Sifat, M.I.K.; Musarrat, Md. Nahin; Rashel, Iftakhar HossainIn this thesis, an optimization method based on IE3D is used to design an Inset Feed Linearly Polarized Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna. The aim of the thesis is to design an inset fed rectangular Microstrip Antenna and study the effect of antenna dimensions length (L) , width (W) and substrate parameters relative dielectric constant (εr) , substrate thickness on Radiation parameters of band width. low dielectric constant substrates are generally preferred for maximum radiation. The conducting patch can take any shape but rectangular and circular configurations are the most commonly used configuration. Other configurations are complex to analyze and require heavy numerical computations. The length of the antenna is nearly half wavelength in the dielectric; it is a very critical parameter, which governs the resonant frequency of the antenna. In view of design, selection of the patch width and length are the major parameters along with the feed line depth. Desired Patch antenna design is initially simulated by using IE3D simulator. And Patch antenna is realized as per design requirements. With this design slightly modified, dual band frequencies can be obtained. In this thesis, the resonant frequency is 2.4 GHz. At first, the dimensions of the rectangular patch antenna have been calculated. With those quantitative results then the simulation has been done. While doing simulation in practical case there has been a slight deviation in the desired frequency bandwidth. An optimization was taken to the dimensions for re-establish the frequency band at 2.4 GHz.Item A miniaturized interdigital hairpin microstrip bandpass filter design(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Islam, Nafiul; Islam, Istiaque; Haque, Md. MerazulModern communication technology is advancing every day. It is becoming more efficient and miniaturized. The efficiency of the communication technology depends upon the performance of the filter used in the system. That’s why extensive research is going on to improve the filter performance as well as to reduce its size. In this thesis we have proposed a four-pole elliptic function band-pass filter designed using compact miniaturized microstrip interdigital hairpin resonator. Miniaturization hairpin resonator is realized by using an interdigital structure having parallel coupled lines. Many works are going on in the field of filter designing. The most recent works has been studied in this thesis to obtain the most suitable design for specific application. We have used the full-wave simulator IE3D to design the interdigital hairpin resonator. We choose RO4003C substrate for our design as it has many advantages in high frequency applications. Finally a filter with chip area of 28.2 * 20.2 mm2 and center frequency at 2.4GHz with a 3db bandwidth of 220 MHz has been proposed. Its upper cutoff and lower cutoff frequencies are respectively 2.53 GHz and 2.31 GHz.Item Simulations and Performance Analyses of Multi-user Alamouti’s Space Time Block Coded MIMO CDMA Systems(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Mamun, M. Shahriar; Hussain, Jamil; Haque, Md. HasibulThis thesis explores Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems and conducts a comprehensive study of its fundamentals. CDMA has already made a firm position in the arena of fast growing 3G communications and vanquished by reigning over other multiple access technologies, for its use of spread-spectrum technique and provision of providing a robust transmission by combating various channel impairments. Further advanced studies have been done on space time block coded CDMA systems for multi-user which yields a new standard for transmission over Rayleigh fading channels using multiple transmit antennas. The combination of space time block code and CDMA system has the aptitude of increasing performance in cellular network. With a simplistic approach, the performance of this system is compared with the typical CDMA system which manifests that, using space time block code and multiple transmit antennas for multi-user CDMA system provide remarkable performance without any need of extra processing or sacrifice in bandwidth. Along with space-time block code, space-time trellis code is also analyzed and compared theoretically on the basis of MIMO implementation, with extended performance evaluation. For further performance analyses, diversity techniques have been manifested and this insight has been comprehended by mathematically manipulating Alamouti’s transmit diversity scheme, which surely offers remarkable performance improvement, which, later, has been justified from the results obtained from simulations.Item Electricity Sustainability and Nuclear Power: Perspective Bangladesh(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Board Bazar, Gazipur-1704, Bangladesh, 2012-11-15) Reyadul, Islam Mahmud; Hasan, Khan Jabid; Shahriar, Md ShihabAdequate and quality electricity at an affordable price is a key element for socio-economic development of a country. Electricity is secondary or delivered form of energy produced from the primary sources e.g. fossil fuels, fissile materials, and renewable sources like hydro, wind, solar, tide, geothermal, bio-mass, ocean current etc. About 65% of global electricity currently is produced from fossil fuels: coal, gas and oil. The reserves of the fossil fuels are finite, geographically not uniformly distributed and in some counties the reserves are maturing. The prices of fossil fuels often fluctuate partly due to demand and supply imbalance and partly on geopolitics. The use of fossil fuels release enormous amount of greenhouse gases resulting global warming and climate change. Environmental pollution and transportation of large quantities of fossil fuels for bulk electricity generation are also issues of concerns. The thesis primarily presents electricity and nuclear power from the perspective of sustainability. Bangladesh scenario has also been touched.
