Item GROWTH AND YIELD PERFORMANCE OF CRASSPEA UNDER DIFFERENT METHODS OF SOWING AND PRE-EMERGENCE IRRIGATION(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2009) AHMED, BULBULThe experiment was conducted in the Fann ol' Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Dhaka. Bangladesh during the period from December. 2007 to March 2008 to study the growth and yield performance of grasspea under different methods ci sowing and prc-emergenee irrigation. The variety BAR! Khesari-2 was used as the test crop. The treatments of the experiment were T,: Broadcast sowing without irrigation: 12: Furrow sowing without irrigation: T: Furrow sowing with furrow irrigation; T 4: Broadcast sowing with primed seeds: 'I' j : Furrow sowing with primed seeds: T 6 : Broadcast sowing with sprinkler irrigation at evening; 1 7 : Broadcast sowing with sprinkler irrigation at evening and morning: 'FR: Furrow sowing with sprinkler irrigation at morning and i's : Broadcast sowing with post sowing flood irrigation. Parameters were studied at 15. 25. 35. 45 and 55 days atler sowing. The highest seedling emergence (4.80. 19.65. 26.20. 54.20 and 71.50) was recorded in T 7 treatment whereas the lowest (2.40. 5.10. 18.20. 44.60 and 45.23) in T1 treatment. The tallest plant (15.11 cm. 34.91 cm. 42.79 cm. 59.41 cm and 71.92) at 15. 25, 35. 45 and 55 DAS was recorded in T 7 treatment and the shortest(l0.94 cm. 25.76 cm. 31.07 cm. 46.55 cm and 56.98 cm) in '1' treatment. The highest number of leaves, number of branches, number of flowers and dr v matter were recorded from T7 treatment and whereas, the lowest in T 1 treatment. 1'he highest pod number, pod length. number of seeds pod', weight of 1000 seeds were recorded from T7 treatment and the lowest in T 1 treatment. The highest seed yield (1.75 t ha 4 ) and stover yield (3.91 t ha 4 ) were recorded in T 7 treatment and the lowest seed yield (1.29 t hi') and stover yield (339 t hai in "I' s treatment.Item INFLUENCE OF NITROGEN AND PLANT SPACING ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF BORO RICE(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2009) UDDIN, MOHAMMAD AMAJAn experiment was conducted at Agricultural farm of Sher-e-Bangja Agricultural University (SAU). Ohaka, during December 2007 to May 2008, in Boro season to study the influence of nitrogen and plant spacing on growth and yield of born There were three doses of nitrogen (150. 200 and 250 kg hi') and four plant spacing's (25 cm x 10cm, 25 cm x IS cm and 25 cm N 20cm and 25 cm respectively). The experiment was laid out in a split-plot design with three replications. Nitrogen rates were placed in main plots and spacing in unit plots (sub-plot). The variety used in the experiment was BRRI dhan29. It was observed that higher rate ofnitrogen application and with higher plant spacing contributed highest plant height, number of tillers hill' and dry weight hilr' but closer spacing showed maximum leaf area index. In case of panicle length. 1000 grain weight, total grain yield, biological yield and harvest index were not responsive to higher rate of nitrogen application and maximum plant spacing but with the application of 200 kg N ha'with 25 cm x 15 cm plant spacing gave the highest grain yield (758 t hi'), biological yield, 1000 grain weight and harvest index.Item EFFECT OF FORMS OF NITROGENOUS FERTILIZER AND NUMBER OF SEEDLING PER HILL ON THE YIELD OF BORO RICE CV. BRRI dhan 29(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2009) Reza, MasudAn experiment was carried out on BRRI dhan 29 at the experimental field of Sher-c- l3angla Agricultural University. Dhaka during November'07 to April'08 to evaluate the elIèct of three forms of N-fertilizer viz. pilled urea. urea super granules (USG) and foliar spray of urea and four levels of seedling/hill viz. 1. 2, 4 and 6. Forms of N- fertilizer were assigned in main plot and number of seedling/hill in the sub plots in a split-plot design with 3 replications .. EtTect of forms of nitrogen fertilizer and number of seedling/hill was signilicant in respect of all the plant and yield attributing characters like plant height. effective tiller/hill, ineffective tiller/hill. grain/panicle. sterile grain/paniele and thousand seed weight. Urea super granules (USG) have significantly highest grain yield (6.4 t/ha) lowest grain (5.1 c/ha) was found in the where as lowest straw yield (5.8 tAm) and bmw application of urca.Signilicantly highest grain yield (6.6 t/ha) was obtained from single seedling/hill followed by two seedlings/hill (6.4 t/ha). The highest straw yield (7.5 c/ha) was obtained from six seedlings/hill and the lowest (6.7 c/ha) was found from single seedling/hill. The interaction effect of forms of N-fertilizer and number of seedling/hill differed significantly for all the yield attributes, although the highest grain yield (7.0 c/ha) was produced from the treatment combination of Urea super granule (USG) seedling/hill followed by urea super granules x urea x single seedling/hill (6.83 c/ha) interactions. vi x 2 seedling/hill (6.93 c/ha) and prilledItem GROWTH AND YIELD OF WHEAT AS INFLUENCED BY TIME OF IRRIGATION AND SPLIT APPLICATION OF NITROGEN(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2009) HOSSAIN, MOSAREFThe experiment was conducted at the experimental site of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) during the period from December, 2007 to March, 2008 to study the growth and yield of wheat as influenced by time of irrigation and split application of nitrogen . The treatments comprised (A) three irrigation levels (i) no irrigation, (ii) one irrigation given at crown root initiation stage, (iii) two irrigations, one at crown root initiation stage and another at panicle initiation stage and (B) four split application of nitrogen viz. (i) no nitrogen application, (ii) one basal application of nitrogen at the time of sowing, (iii) two equal split- one at basal and another at 30 DAS, (iv) three equal split- one at basal, one at 30 DAS and the other at 60 DAS and (C) their combination effect. It was observed that the highest plant height, number of tillers/plant, leaf area index (LAI), fresh weight plant , dry weight plant -1 , spike length, number of spikelets spike -1 -1 , number of grains spike , 1000 seed weight, total grain yield, straw yield and harvest index were obtained with the application of irrigation and nitrogen. In case of the combined effect on irrigation and split application of nitrogen, the tallest plant (96.37 cm), highest number of tillers/plant (4.50), highest leaf area index (2.71), highest fresh weight (66.97g) and dry weight (36.56g) plant -1 , longest spike length (17.35 cm), highest number of spikelets spike -1 (60.00) and highest number of grains spike -1 1 (39.33), highest 1000 seed weight (48.50g), total grain yield (4.30 t ha ), straw yield (5.82 t ha -1 ) and harvest index (42.49%) were obtained with the combination of two irrigations with three split application of nitrogen. [he longest plant (83.79 cm). the maxitflulfl number of total tillers (5.27 plant'), grain yield (2,75 t ha ) and straw yield (4.36 t ha' ) was recorded from the treatment combination of NV1, while tile corresponding lowest values were obtained hunt lu\$.Item EFFECT OF INTERCROPPING CHICKPEA WITH SUNFLOWER UNDER DIFFERENT ROW AND SPACING ARRANGEMENTS(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2009) NASRIN, SHAMAThe experiment was conducted to find out the effect of intercropping chickpea with sunflower under different row and spacing arrangements at the experimental field of Agronomy Department of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka- 1207, during the period from November 2008 to March 2009. Seeds of sunflower variety DS-1 (Kironi) and Chickpea variety BARI-Chola-5 used as a test crop for the study. The experiment consisted of nine row arrangement combinations of sunflower and chickpea plus sole treatment of both the crops. The row arrangement of sunflower were recommended as 50 cm apart, paired rows 30 cm apart followed by 70 cm gap; and paired rows 30 cm apart followed by 100 cm gap. Within these were three row arrangements, 1-4 rows of chickpea at different spacing which altogether made nine treatment combinations. Results revealed that soil moisture, light intensity, growth parameters, yield attributes and yield, land equivalent ratio, soil pH and N, P. K had significant differences. The maximum soil moisture (30.11-35.20%) was recorded when two rows of chickpea were sown 40 cm apart in 70 cm gap of sunflower paired rows. svhile the minimum (25.10-27.60%) in the sole sunflower plots. The highest LER (1.76) was recorded from T 5 and the lowest LER from the sole crop both sunflower and chickpea. The highest equivalent yield (BY) of sunflower (3.81 t haj was recorded from T 5 and the lowest (2.09 t hi') from the sole crop of chickpea. The highest EY of chickpea (4.39 t haj was recorded from T5 and the lowest (2.57 t hi') from the sole crop of sunflower. The highest combined yield of sunflower and chickpea (4.08 t hi') was recorded from T 5 and the lowest (2.23 t hi') from the sole crop of sunflower. The highest benefit cost ratio (3.52) was recorded from 'f s and the lowest (1.49) from the sole crop of chickpea.Item PERFORMANCE OF WHEAT AS AFFECTED BY TIME OF IRRIGATION AND NITROGEN LEVEL(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2009) HIRA, MOUSHUMI BAIN; DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMYAn experiment was carried out in experimental field of the Sher-e-E3angla Agricultural University. Dhaka to investigate the performance of wheat as affected by inie of irrigation and nitrogen level during the winter season of 2009-2010. Five times of irrigation viz, one irrigation at crown root initiation (('RI) stage. one irrigation at maximum tillering stage. one irrigation at grain tilling stage, two in'igations at CR! - maximum tillering stage and three irrigations at CR1 - maximum tillering F grain Idling stage: and four levels of nitrogen viz. 92kg ha". 115kg ha d . 138kg ha" and 161kg ha' were used as variables. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replications. Results showed that time of irrigation and nitrogen level had significant effect on different plant characters, yield and yield components of wheat. On the other hand, when the plant characters-plant height and spike length were highest with 161kg N ha'', the yield and yield contributing characters-number of productive tillers plant'', number of effective spikes nf 2 . dry weight plant'. number of spikelets spike', number of grains spike'. weight of 1000 seeds, grain yield, straw yield and harvest index were highest with 115kg N ha'. Signif icantly. highest yield of wheat was obtained when irrigation was applied 3 times at CR1 - maximum I illering grain tilling stage along with the recommended nitrogen dose of 115kg ha".Item INFLUENCE OF POPULATION DENSITY ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF INBRED AND HYBRID BORO RICE(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2009) REZA, NOWALINThe experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from November 2008 to April 2009 to study the influence of four levels of population density viz. I, 2 1 , 3 and 4 seedlings hilr1 on growth and yield of inbred (BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhan29) and hybrid (BRR1 hybrid dhan2 and ACI hybrid dhan2) boro rice. The experiment was laid out in two factors Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Results showed that boro rice varieties differed significantly in all growth and yield characters and hybrid dhan gave superior return in case of yield. Among the varieties ACI hybrid dhan2 produced the highest grain yield (7.66 t hi'). Two seedlings hilr' gave the maximum tillers hilr' (18.15), highest dry matter hilr' (5.23 g), maximum effective tiller hilF 1 (13.19), longest paniele (29.43 cm) and highest grain yield (6.63 t ha d) while one seedling hill' had the highest numbers of filled grains panicle (85.90), maximum 1000 grain weight (23.50 g) and highest harvest index (47.46%). Interaction result showed that ACI hybrid dhan2 coupled with transplanting 2 seedling' hill' gave the highest grain yield (8.58 t haj while ACI hybrid dhan2 in combination with I seedling hill' gave the highest harvest index (50.14%)Item EFFECT OF IRRIGATION ANID VARIETY ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF LENTIL(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2009) A. H. M. RAYHANA field experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University farm, Dhaka during the period from November 2008 to February 2009 to study the effect of irrigation and variety on growth and yield of lentil. The experiment was consisted of two treatment factors; factor A: four irrigation levels (!= no irrigation, 11= irrigation at 25 DAS, 12= irrigation at 50 DAS and 13= Irrigation at both 25 and 50 DAS) and factor B: four lentil varieties ('i= BARI Masur-3. V2= BARI Masur-4, V3 = BARI Masur-5 and V 4 = BARI Masur-6). The experiment was laid-out in split plot design with three replications assigning irrigation level in the main-plot and variety in the sub-plot Results showed that irrigation level, variety and their interaction exerted significant influence on plant height and plant dry matter at different days after sowing (DAS), on pods plani', seeds per pod', 1000-seed weight, seed yield, stover yield, biological yield and harvest index of lentil. Increasing irrigation level increased seed yield. BARI Masur-6 gave the highest seed yield followed by BARI Masur-5, BARI Masur-4 and BARI Masur-3. Irrigation at both 25 and 50 DAS in BARI Masur-6 showed the highest seed yield. In all the cases, increasing seed yield were obtained by increasing the values of the said parameters.Item INFLUENCE OF NITROGEN LEVEL AND WEEDING ON THE PERFORMANCE OF WHEAT(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2009) SULTANA, SHEFAINA field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field, Sher-e-l3angla Agricultural University, during the period from November. 2008 to March. 2009, to find out the effect of nitrogen level and weeding on the performance of wheat. The treatments comprised live different levels of nitrogen (0 kg ha". 69 kg ha". 92 kg ha". 115 kg ha 1 and 138 kg ha") and three weedings (no weeding, one weeding at 30 days after sowing and two weedings at 30 and 60 days after sowing). The experiment was laid out in a spLit plot design with three replications assign nitrogen level in the main plot and weeding in the sub plot. Result showed that increasing nitrogen level upto 115 kg ha" and increasing number weeding increased grain yield by increasing all the yield contributing parameters. Interaction of 115 kg ha" and two weedings gave the highest values 11w the said parameters
