Abstract

The research work was conducted to detect the prevalence of Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT) Virus-specific antibody in chickens from Gazipur district of Bangladesh. A total number of 232 sera of commercial layer were collected from 17 commercial layer farms. The studied commercial layers had not been previously vaccinated and were different ages. The indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (iELISA) was performed to estimate the Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT) Virus-specific antibody. Out of 232 samples, 189(81.47%) samples were found to be positive. The result of this study indicate a high Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT) Virus activity in Gazipur district of Bangladesh hence there is an urgent need for the development of prevention and control policies against ILT in Bangladesh poultry farms and a _ national control programme for Infectious Laryngotracheitis Virus infection should be planned.

Description

Respiratory diseases of poultry result in great production losses for the industry due to the severity of clinical signs. Infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV) is included among the respiratory pathogens that can infect chickens and cause important economic losses. The disease can be present in two epizootic forms. The severe form is characterized by high morbidity, and moderate to high mortality, whereas the mild form commonly present now a days in the developed poultry industries, is responsible for the presence of clinical signs including, tracheitis, sinusitis, conjunctivitis, general depression, watery eyes, and low mortality. Although recognized as the mild presentation of the disease it produces weight loss and decreased egg production and has had a significant economic impact for the industry in the past decade.
