Abstract

The study was conducted to investigate the overall prevalence of infectious diseases in cattle at Khansama upazila veterinary hospital in Dinajpur district of Bangladesh for a period of one year from September, 2016 to August, 2017. A total of 3600 clinical cases were recorded. Disease diagnosis was made on the basis of owner‟s statement, general examination and clinical signs. Diseases were categorized as bacterial diseases and viral diseases. According to the study, highest prevalence (11.17%) were recorded as bacterial diseases followed by viral diseases 7.31%. The study revealed that bacterial diseases were significantly higher (P<0.05) in summer (13.66%) season, female animals (11.89%), above 3 years age group (14.12%) and indigenous (12.26%) cattle. Among bacterial disease dermatophilosis was found higher (4.92%) than others. It is also revealed that viral diseases were non-significantly higher (P>0.05) in winter (9.85%) season, female animals (7.84%) and indigenous cattle (8.07%) but significantly higher (P<0.05%) between 6 months to 2 years age group (8.82%). Foot and mouth disease (FMD) were observed as the most susceptible among various viral diseases in the study areas. The prevalence of foot and mouth disease (FMD) was 4.52%. From the study we could say that bacterial disease is more prevalent in the study area than viral diseases. Dermatophilosis and FMD were frequently occurring disease.
