Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the redevelopment project for the Rajshahi Divisional Public Library, highlighting its significance as a cultural and educational landmark in Bangladesh’s Rajshahi Division. Established in 1983, the existing library infrastructure has become inadequate to meet the evolving needs of a diverse urban population. This project aims to transform the library into a state-of-the-art facility that incorporates modern technology and offers a wide range of resources to serve not just students but the entire community. The paper outlines the project's objectives, including enhancing accessibility, meeting user needs, and fostering social and cultural engagement within the library's space. A detailed program outline is provided, showcasing various facilities such as a children's library, multipurpose hall, and technology-equipped rooms that will support both traditional and contemporary learning methods. Additionally, the literature review examines the historical role of public libraries globally, tracing their evolution from ancient archives to modern community centers. This study underscores the critical need for innovative public spaces in Rajshahi, aiming to position the library as a vital hub for knowledge sharing, cultural interaction, and community growth in the region.
