Abstract

An experiment was conducted at Crop physiology and Ecology Research Field, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur during the period 23 November, 2016 to February, 2017 to study the effect of non-irrigated stress on growth and yield performance of four mustard varieties viz. BARI Sharisha-9, BARI Sharisha-14, BARI Sharisha-15 and BARI Sharisha17. The experiment was laid out in a Split plot design with three replications. Among the varieties, the performance of BARI Sharisha-17 was better than the other varieties under water deficit stress condition. BARI Sharisha-15 and BARI Sharisha-17 emerged earlier than other two varieties under water stress. BARI Sharisha-17 produced tall plants and exhibited the highest number of branches plant-1, longest siliqua, highest number of seeds siliqua-1 and maximum thousand seed weight under both well water and water stress conditions whereas BARI Sharisha-9 showed lowest performance in these parameter. BARI Sharisha-14 exhibited the highest number of siliqua plant-1 under both conditions. The order of tolerance based on seed yield was BARI Sharisha-17 > BARI Sharisha-14 > BARI Sharisha-15 > BARI Sharisha-9 and the order of tolerance based on stover yield was BARI Sharisha-17 > BARI Sharisha-15 > BARI Sharisha-14 > BARI Sharisha-9. This study showed that the relative performance of BARI Sharisha-17 was superior to others in relation to water stress condition
