Abstract

The research work was conducted in the Central Shade House of Agriculture Faculty, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during July to December 2022 to study the effect of diferent pot mixures amended with organic and inorganic sources of nutrients on the vegetative growth of green wave (Batavia type) lettuce. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 7 treatments and 3 replications. The seven treatments were: T1 = control (only soil); T2 = 50% soil + 20% cowdung (CD) + 20% vermicompost (VC) + 5% sand + 5% cocodust + 2.0 g kg-1 bone meal powder; T3 = 45% soil + 20% CD + 25% VC + 5% sand + 5% cocodust + 1.5 g kg-1 bone meal powder; T4 = 45% soil + 25% CD + 20% VC + 5% sand + 5% cocodust + 1.5 g kg-1 bone meal powder; T5 = 40% soil + 20% CD + 20% VC + 15% sand + 5% cocodust + 2.0 g kg-1 bone meal powder; T6 = 35% soil + 25% CD + 25% VC + 10% sand + 5% cocodust + 1.0 g kg-1 bone meal powder; T7 = 35% soil + 25% CD + 25% VC + 5% sand + 10% cocodust + 1.0 g kg-1 bone meal powder. The result showed that the growth and yield attributing components such as plant height, number of leaves plant-1, leaf length, leaf breadth, marketable fresh biomass plant-1, biomass after harvest, dry biomass plant-1 after harvest, root length, fresh root weight, dry root weight were significantly different due to application of organic and inorganic fertilizer containing different pot mixtures. The highest values of different parameters such as plant height (38.7 cm) at 50 DAT, leaf length (26.8 cm) at 50 DAT, leaf breadth (18.6 cm) at 50 DAT, marketable fresh biomass plant-1 (190.3 g), biomass after harvest (120.7 g), dry biomass plant-1 (12.0 g), root length (7.2 cm) was obtained in T7 treatment. The lowest results were found in the control treatment (T1). Post-harvest soil status indicated that significantly highest organic carbon, available S, exchangeable K contents were found in T7 treatment. Overall results suggested that, T7 treatment (35% soil + 25% CD + 25% VC + 5% sand + 10% cocodust + 1.0 g kg-1 bone meal powder) can be used for cultivation of lettuce in rooftop garden.
