Abstract
This Study targeted to identify the role of knowledge and training for enhancing biosecurity and disease control mechanisms allied to poultry farm management in Feni Sadar, Feni. Surveys were conducted on 20 poultry farms to assess the biosecurity measures involving aspects like the fencing, pest control besides sanitation as well as disease control measures. It is significant to mention that statistical methods were used in analysing the level of improvement of these bio-security practices as result of training. Survey findings revealed that 65% of farmers did not undergo any formal biosecurity training and this saddled biosecurity with poor compliance with over categorical measures. For example 60% of the farms did not have proper perimeter fences while 70% of the farm expressed that they had poor methods of combating pests. In Chi-square analysis, findings indicated that training on different practices had a significant positive effect on the use of perimeter fencing (p= 0. 035) and sanitation (p= 0. 042) while a positive trend was noted on vaccination (0. 058). In the farms where training was carried out the rate of diseases was comparatively low proving a very important concept of bio-security training. It is therefore recommended that education of the farmers as well as enforcement of structured bio security training that are relevant in increasing the disease control programs and productivity of poultry farming.
