Abstract

A pot experiment was conducted to find out the effect of salinity level on growth and yield attributes of rice varieties at the research field of Crop Physiology and Ecology Department, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur in boro season during February to August 2018. The experiment was laid out in a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 replication. Four rice varieties (Pokali, BRRI dhan28, BINA dhan8 and BINA dhan10) were used for this study. To assess the performance on morphophysiological parameters, yield and yield contributing characters the rice plants were grown in plastic pot with 10 kg soils under different soil salinity treatments such as control, 8dSm-1 and 12dSm-1 . Plant height, tiller number per hill, SPAD value at 70 DAT, number of panicle per hill, panicle length (cm), filled spikelet per panicle, spikelet per panicle, straw weight, and 1000 grain weight and total grain weight was decreased gradually with the increment of salinity levels. But days to flowering and unfilled spikelet per panicle increased gradually with the increment of salinity levels. Among the varieties, the variety BINA dhan8 showed highest and BINA dhan10 showed 2nd highest performance in every salinity levels. On the other-hand Poakli showed moderate performance and BRRI dhan28 was found susceptible to salinity
