Abstract

Since the old approaches of the hawker's market in Gulistan has failed and the Streetside hawkers are facing constant evictions even till to this date. So, A new approach for hawkers' market needs to be developed to alleviate the problems posed by the street side hawkers in Fulbaira. This project might explore a new paradigm for urban hawkering in context of the problems faced by both the sides of the issue. It is to be ensured that provisions for space for vendors markets are pragmatic, consistent with formation of natural markets, sufficient for existing demand for vendor’s goods and services, as well as likely increase in line with anticipated population growth unlike the traditional hawker centers which fails to properly rehabilitee the informal vending issue in Dhaka. Provisions of spaces for retails with an inclusion of temporary designation as vendors markets whose use at other times may be different (e.g. Public Park, parking lot) may change the narrative of urban hawkering. Timing restriction on urban vending should correspond to the needs of ensuring non congestion of public spaces / public hygiene.
