Study on Nutritive Value and fiber content of some selected herbs such as Aloe Vera, Fenugreek seeds and Arjun leaves

Abstract

Abstract The present study set out to determine the chemical compositions of Arjun leaves, Fenugreek seeds, and Aloe vera. Each herbs were collected from different places and available market. After collection the herbs were cleaned and dried then were crushed into a fine powder and was analyzed in the laboratory. The results showed that although the feed and food crisis has been a serious problem due to expanding population and expenses, the investigated seeds and leaves can be regarded as substantial new sources of crude fiber, crude protein, and ether extract in Bangladesh. Both of these fenugreek seeds and leaves have high crude protein content. The dry matter percentage of fenugreek seeds was greater which was 89.94%. Arjun leaves (14.08%) also have a higher crude fiber content. Fenugreek seeds had a comparatively greater ether extract content of 5.29%. The Aloe Vera was found to have lower CF and CP values, but a greater Ash content (18.57%). Given the abundance of vital components found in seeds and leaves, it was reasonable to assume that they may be used as edible food human and also as a source of feed (medicinal herbs) for poultry to increase digestibility and immunity.
