Abstract

Contamination of farmer’s fields by industrial wastes such as heavy metals (Cu, Ni, Cd, Zn, Cr, Pb, etc.) is a major concern in our country. These wastes have antagonistic impacts on the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of the soil. The toxicity of these metals in soil is determined by a variety of parameters, including soil pH, clay minerals, organic matter, inorganic anions and cations, and chemical forms of the metal, all of which are linked to soil fertility. The objective of this study was to find out the peridical effect of liming at 60 days interval on the major nutrient (N, P, K, S) availability in a positive manner of industrially contaminated soil.The experiment was conducted during November 2022 to June 2023 at shade house near the Department of soil science, HSTU. The experiment comprises six (6) treatments, L0 =0%, L1=0.08%, L2=0.16%, L3=0.32%, L4=0.48% and L5 =0.96%. The experiment was laid out in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three (3) replications, and total pot number was 18. The data was collected on different parameters such as soil pH, EC (dSm-1), total N (%), available P (ppm), available S (ppm), exchangeable K (meq100-1gm). The effect of liming at 60 days enhanced nutrient status of Total N, Available P, exchangeable K, available S. The highest value of total N was observed at L4 (0.03%), highest value of available P was observed at L5 (30.05), highest value of exchangeable K was observed at L5 (0.12), highest value of available S was observed at L5 (413.15). On the other hand, the highest value of Lead (Pb) was observed at L0 (0.126) and lowest value of Lead (Pb) was observed at L5 (0.097). The most beneficial option for the treatment of Pb contaminated soil was the application of lime. Therefore, it could be concluded from the above study that application of liming could be the economically suitable for better growth and yield. This study needs to be conduct on different Agro-ecological zone (AEZ) ON Bangladesh. Liming would be valuable input in the decrease of heavy metal (Pb) concentration and liming could be sustainable solution of contaminated field.
