COMPARATIVE EFFICACY OF PIPERAZINE CITRATE AND LEVAMISOLE AGAINST NATURALLY INFECTED ASCARIASIS IN BLACK BENGAL GOAT

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of piperazine citrate (Avipar®) and levamisole (Neotrax®) against naturally infected ascariasis of indigenous Black Bengal goat. A total number of 100 indigenous Black Bengal goats were surveyed ranging from 10 months to 18 months of age in different villages of Rowmary Thana of Kurigram district. Fecal samples were examined to observe the incidence of ascariasis in goat and average villge wise infection rate was found about 30%. The highest infection rate (50%) was found in 300-360 days (10-12 months) of age group. Average age wise infection rate was found about 45.23%. To determine the efficacy of Aviper and Neotrax, ascarid infected 30 goats were randomly grouped into three- Group-A (contol), Group-B (Aviper) and Group-C (Neotrax). The efficacy of Avipar® (200mg/kg body weight) and Neotrax® (20mg/kg body weight) was evaluated by observing body weight, hemetlogical parameter and fecal EPG count. The body weight was significantly increased in groups B and C as 11.72% and 11.01% respectively on 28 th days after treatment. The mean values of EPG were reduced about 100% in both groups of B and C on day 14 and 28 after treatment. Total erythrocyte count (TEC/cu mm), hemoglobin content (Hb gm %) and packed cell volume (PCV %) were increased significantly (p<0.01 and P<0.05) in group B and group C respectively. Whereas erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and total leukocyte count (TLC 10 3 3 ) were reduced significantly (p<0.05) after treatment in group B and group C. It seemed that Avipar® and Neotrax® are highly effective and safe drugs against ascariasis in goat.
