Abstract

A field experiment was carried out at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm, Dhaka-1207, Bangladesh, during the period from November 2016 to March 2017 to study the effect of vermicompost on growth and yield of wheat under different moisture regimes with the variety, BARI gom 26. The experiment comprised of four levels of irrigation viz., I 0 = No irrigation (control), I 1 = ii Irrigation at18 days after sowing (DAS), I = Irrigation at 18 and 47 days after sowing (DAS) and I = Irrigation at 18, 47 and 76 days after sowing (DAS) and three levels of vermicompost viz., V 3 = No vermicompost (control), V 1 = Vermicompost @ 5 t ha -1 and V 2 0 = Vermicompost @ 10 t ha . The experiment was laid out in Split Plot Design with three replications. It was found that I and V individually gave the best performance in respect of growth, yield and yield attributes. The treatment combination of I 2 3 V 2 gave the highest plant height (95.47 cm), number of tillers plant -1 (4.90), dry weight plant -1 (38.70 g), spike length (18.09 cm), number of spikelets spike -1 (63.30), number of filled grains spike -1 (41.58), grain yield (4.26 t ha -1 ), straw yield (5.78 t ha -1 ), biological yield (10.04 t ha -1 ) and harvest index (42.43%) at harvest. But the highest 1000 seed weight (48.53 g) and lowest number of unfilled grains spike -1 (5.13) were found from the treatment combination of I 2 V 2 .
