Abstract
The present work presents a detailed assessment of pig farming practices of twenty farms,
including demographic profiles, management approaches, and operating difficulties. The
gender breakdown indicates that there is a massive 55% of farmers, who are female, it,
therefore, brings out the importance of women in farming. A low literacy level is observed
among the farm owners, therefore, educational enlistment to increase the knowledge in
modern farming and productivity. It is only able to demonstrate that the age brackets are
composed mostly of middle-aged farmers, meaning stability but little incorporation of the
youthful population into farming. The level of rearing practice in most farms is surprisingly
semi-intensive; with 70% of the farms being under this category, half intensive and half
intensive. This study also identified areas where bio security is poor, records management of
animals is wanting, and adequate water management that is required to sustain healthy
animals. On this basis, the report highlights the need for pointed measures for increasing the
level of education of farmers, raising the level of management, and improving bio security.
Finally, the development of a better-informed farming population is necessary to ensure the
long-term viability of pig farming.
