Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of spacing and phosphorous on the growth and yield of brinjal at the central farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, during the period of September 2007 to March 2008. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications to investigate the growth and yield of brinjal cv "Kajia". The experiment was conducted with two factors; Factor A: Three Spacing i.e. S 1 = 75 cm x 50 cm. S2 = 75 cm x 60 cm, S3 = 75 cm x 70 cm and Factor B: Four levels of Phosphorous i.e. P0= Control. P 1 = 70 kg P,O çfha, P 2 = 90 kg P 205 /ha and P3 = 110 kg P 205 /ha. in case of Plant spacing, the highest yield (54.08 tiha) was recorded from the spacing S 2 and the lowest yield (50.64 t/ha) was from S3 . In case of Phosphorous, the maximum yield (53.87 tiha) was obtained from P 2 and the minimum yield (49.54 tlha) was from 1 30. For combined effect, the highest yield (60.02 tlha) was observed from the treatment combination of S 2P2 . It may be concluded that 75 cm kg P 205 /ha is best for the growth and yield of brinjal cv "Kajia".
