dc.descriptionFruits are special gift of Allah to man and animal world. The natural environment of Bangladesh is favorable for the production of different kinds of fruits. About 1.15% land is used for fruit cultivation in Bangladesh (Hossain, 2012). The daily requirement of fruit per person is about 100 -130 g but only 30 — 40% requirement are fulfilled in the country. About 70% fruits are imported from abroad which create pressure to the foreign currency of Bangladesh (Hossain, 2012).
dc.description.abstractPrevalence of diseases of some fruit plants was studied in the Department of Plant Pathology, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur. The experiments were carried out during the period of January to December 2011 to know the status, incidence and severity of diseases and effect of weather factors on litchi, pineapple, lemon, orange, banana, guava and papaya. Bacterial leaf blight, canker, dieback, cigatoka, algal rust and leaf curl were the predominant diseases of litchi, lemon, orange, banana, guava and papaya, respectively. The disease incidence of bacterial leaf blight of litchi, canker of lemon and dieback of orange, sigatoka of banana, algal rust of guava and leaf curl of papaya was found maximum in April, September, March, January, February and November, respectively but minimum in October, March, January, June, May and July. The highest severity of those diseases was found in the month of December, August, May, January (sigatoka and algal rust) and November, respectively and the lowest disease severity was found in the month of September, January (canker, dieback), July, August (algal rust and leaf curl). Different degrees of correlation were observed among the diseases with temperature, relative humidity and rainfall. Bacterial leaf blight of litchi, canker of lemon, algal rust of guava were positively correlated and sigatoka of banana, dieback of orange and leaf curl of papaya were negatively correlated with the temperature, relative humidity and rainfall.
