Abstract
Established in 1961, Gulshan was planned as a model town, developing its own Pourashabha. By 1972, Gulshan Thana became part of Dhaka city. Initially a residential area, Gulshan has since evolved into a vibrant commercial center, boasting two major market spaces managed by the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
The project aims to transform the Gulshan 2 DNCC market into a civic center, addressing existing challenges while seamlessly blending with the surrounding cityscape. The client's requirements were thoroughly examined through literature studies. Following the inclusion of essential programs, the entire list was modified, enriched by empirical studies and analyses of the site context. This project seeks to integrate public and cultural amenities, encompassing event spaces, multipurpose halls, art galleries, a library, essential public facilities such as restrooms and waiting areas, alongside small vendor shops. This comprehensive approach ensures the city center can accommodate a diverse audience, uniting them through the varied offerings available. Climatic factors were highly taken into consideration.
