Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) farm, Dhaka, during the period from October 2016 to May 2017 to study the influence of variety and water deficiency on the growth and yield of boro rice under the Modhupur Tract (AEZ-28). The experiment consisted of 2 rice varieties {BRRI dhan74 (V 1 ) and Heera-2 (V )} and 7 levels of water deficiency {No deficiency (S 0 ), Deficiency at 15-35 DAT (S iii 2 1 ), Deficiency at 55-75 DAT (S ), Deficiency at 85-105 DAT (S 3 ), Deficiency at 15-35 DAT and 55-75 DAT (S ), Deficiency at 15-35 DAT and 85-105 DAT (S ) and Deficiency at 55-75 DAT and 85105 DAT (S 6 5 )}. The experiment was laid out in a split-plot design with three replications having variety in the main plots and water deficiency in the sub-plots. In this experiment, all the genotypes varied significantly for all the parameters by their interaction with water deficiency. The highest plant height (88.31 cm) was recorded in V 2 S 2 . The lowest plant height (75.33 cm) recorded in V 1 S . At 97 DAT, the highest dry matter hill -1 was observed in V 2 S 4 4 (39.00 g) and the lowest dry matter hill was observed in V 2 S 6 (29.43 g). For grain yield, V 2 S showed the highest grain yield (7.52 t ha -1 ) which was statistically similar with V 2 S 0 2 , V 2 S 1 , V 2 S 3 and V 2 S 6 but V showed the lowest grain yield (4.51 t ha ).
