Abstract

This report explores the vital role rural markets play in shaping and strengthening the rural economy of Bangladesh. It examines how rural markets serve as a hub for the exchange of goods and services, employment generation, and the promotion of small-scale enterprises. The study highlights the relationship between market accessibility and the income growth of rural households. It also discusses infrastructure, transportation, communication, and policy supports that enhance rural market effectiveness. Using both primary and secondary data, the report analyzes how rural markets contribute to local development and identifies the challenges that hinder their full potential. Finally, it offers strategic recommendations to improve rural market performance for sustainable economic development.
