dc.description.abstractAn experiment was carried out at the research field of the Department of Crop Physiology and Ecology of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, Bangladesh to evaluate the effect of Phosphorous and Sulphur on the growth and yield of wheat (BWMRI Gom-3). The experiment was conducted from December 2022 to March 2023. Four levels of Phosphorous viz. (i) P0 = 0 kg P ha-1 (Control), (ii) P1 = 30 kg P ha-1, (iii) P2 = 60 kg P ha-1 and (iv) P3 = 90 kg P ha-1 and three levels of S viz. (i) S0 = 0 kg S ha-1 (Control), (ii) S1 = 20 kg S ha-1 and (iii) S2 = 40 kg S ha-1 were used as experimental treatments. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Data on different growth and yield parameters were recorded and analysed statistically. Phosphorous and Sulphur individually and also in association gave significant effect on growth and yield of wheat. The P2 treatment gave the tallest plant (89.02 cm), maximum number of tiller plant-1 (7.83), spike length (18.36 cm), grains per spike (43.81), thousand grain weight (37.66 g), grain yield (4.23 t ha-1), straw yield (5.59 t ha-1) and harvest index (43.07%). Besides, maximum plant height (83.25 cm), number of tiller plant-1 (6.84), spike length (15.03 cm), grains per spike (32.27), thousand grain weight (33.95 g), grain yield per plant (31.79 g), grain yield (4.23 t ha-1), straw yield (5.56 t ha-1) and harvest index (43.21%) were recorded from S2 (40 kg S ha-1). In terms of combination of sulphur with phosphorous, highest plant height (89.17 cm), highest number of tiller (8.34), spike length (12.7 cm), number of grains spike-1 (37.35), 1000 grain weight (47.19 g), grain yield (4.46 t ha-1), straw yield (5.85 t ha-1) and harvest index (43.85%) was recorded from P2S2. Finally, all the growth, yield and yield attributing characters were found lowest in control treatments. The result of the study indicated that the 60 Kg P and 40 S Kg ha-1 would be effective and economic for the cultivation of BWMRI Gom-3 in Bangladesh
