U.Item Amounts and mineralization of organic phosphorus compounds and derivatives in some surface soils of Bangladesh(Elsevier Scientific Publishing Company, 1977) Islam, A.; Mandal, R.Concentrations of a few organic phosphorus compounds and their hydrolysis products have been determined in a number of Bangladesh soils. The amounts of DNA and its derivatives, inositol penta- and hexaphosphates, ranged from 0.16 to 1.30, and 18.5 to 130.0 ppm, respectively. The hydrolysis products of phospholipids such as choline, ethanolamine and glycerophosphate ranged from 0.36 to 3.29, 0.28 to 2.52 and 0.20 to 1.05 ppm, respectively. Multiple correlation suggested that pH, organic matter, organic phosphorus and total phosphorus were collectively related to the amounts of different organic phosphorus fractions in soil samples. Individually, DNA and its derivatives were found to be significantly related to total phosphorus and inositol penta- and hexaphosphates to organic phosphorus. Choline was significantly related to organic matter, organic phosphorus and total phosphorus; ethanolamine to organic matter and total phosphorus; and glycerophosphate to organic phosphorus. Moisture and lime promoted progressive mineralization of organic phosphorus with time. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate, glucose and ammonium sulphate showed rapid initial and final mineralization. In contrast, the application of compost caused an initial luxury immobilization followed by a marked increase in mineralization with time. Maximum mineralization was observed when ammonium sulphate was added to samples in submerged conditions. The least mineralization occurred when lime was added to samples at 50% of field moisture capacity.Item Mineralization of inositol penta and hexaphosphates in some soils of Bangladesh(Bangladesh J. Sci. Res., 1977) Mandal, R.; Islam, A.The nature of iP;, and changes iP^ in Bangladesh soil* has been examined. Mineralization of iP^ and ipj was found at all moisture levels cither alone or with lime. A rapid mineralization occurred in the first 30 days followed by a moderate disappearance in the next 30 days in all treatments. Maximum mineralization of iPj and iPj occurred in submerged condition with lime. The hydrolysis was greater in soils containing more organic matter and iPu and ipj. Imamul; Amirullah, M.; Akhtar, J.Item Vertical distribution of phosphate in some sub-humid tropical soils of Bangladesh(Dacca University Studies, 1978-01) Mandal, R.; Islam, A.The distribution of organic, inorganic and total pliosphates and the reasons of their variation in a number of sub-humid tropical soil profiles has been examined- An appreciable amount of phosphate was found in the surface soils but their amounts decreased with depth. Moderate to well drainage caused a gradual decrease in organic phosphate with depth in most of the soils. Inorganic phosphate showed a heterogenous distribution throughout the profiles and generally decreased with depth in profiles with moderate to well drainage capacity, A sharp decrease in organic phosphate but no definite pattern in inorganic value in deeply and shallowly weathered profiles were observed. A gradual decrease in both the values was generally noticed in most of the alluvial soils. Total phosphate in the soils reflected the same trends as was noticed inorganic phosphate distribution. Correlation study suggested that phosphate variation was significantly correlated with organic matter, total nitrogen, pH and clay contents of the soils.Item Mineralization of inositol penta and hexaphosphate in soils(Journal of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, 1978-01) Mandal, R.; Islam, A.Tlie nature of changes of inositol penta -- and hexaphosphate in some Bangladesh soils have been studied. Mineralization of both the compounds occurred at different moisture levels. Mineralization of inositol penta -- and hexaphosphate was continual, but the rate decreased with time. Mineralization was found to be a function of moisture, organic matter, pH and content of soil inositol penta -- and hexaphosphate with a positive correlation.Item Distribution o f hydrolysis products o f inositol penta- and hexaphosphates in some humid tropical soils(Journal of Trop. Agric., 1978-04) Mandal, R.; Islam, A.'I'he proportions of' inositol jjentaphosphate (IPb) and hexaphospliate (IPa) varied significantly and were found to be related to the organic matter and organic P contents of the soils sampled. Esters of myo + D-chiro IPf, together accoimted for 48 to 81 per cent and scylloinositol represented about 19 to 52 per cent of the total hcxaphosphate. Simple correlation revealed that alkaline conditions probabK’ favoured the synthesis of scyllo //■’e by phytase and multiple correlation suggested that organic matter, organic P and pH were collectively related to the amounts of different inositol polyphosphate fractions in soil samples. NPK did not signiHcintly affect the height of the plant in the eatly statje of growth Increased height was attained at maturity by N, P and NP fertilization. In csntraat, K, NK and NP produced some growth retarding effect. N and NP combinations appeared to be effective in pod setting but P, K and PK combinations proved to be of no use in this respect. Yield of seeds was in general at par with pod setting. The highest yield was recorded at 224 kg/ha with each of N, P and K. Yield of seeds in general followed the same pattern as pod setting. N, NP, NK and NPK treatments appeared to Increase oil content in seeds by more than 5 tinr.es.
