Item Title Not Found(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal |Sciences University, 201) Akter, TahaminaThis study describes the variations in the physical features and the useful attributes of different populations of indigenous chickens. Five populations of chickens in different regions of Balashpur, Mymensingh were studied based on 8 qualitative and quantitative traits recorded for a total of 20 chicken. Each of the study populations possessed multiple variants of plumage colours and other physical features. However, white body plumage is one of the prominent and red is predominant in the populations. Pea comb is the dominant comb type in all regions. Most of the chickens in the high altitude regions have yellow skin. The geographic distribution and frequency of naked neck chickens are generally small, and the available small proportion is found mainly in the low altitude regions. Males in all populations are heavier and taller than the females. Body weights range from 1 kg to 2 kg in adult males and females. Most of the morphological traits that were studied showed a very low level of associations with each otherItem DVM 3rd year 2nd semester Course-302, 2007(Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2007)Item ASSESMENT OF ANTIBIOTIC RESDUE in broiler LIVER SAMPLE AND ITS PUBLIC HEALTH SIGNIFICANCE(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal |Sciences University, 2007-02) Alam, Dr. Md. RasibulNowadays broiler may treat most important source of animal protein for the large number of people of Bangladesh. Day by day poultry industry develops gradually and the use of antibiotics also increases not only as growth promoter as well as for controlling infectious diseases. But indiscriminate use of these drugs deposits some residue in different body tissues of poultry. Antibiotic residue in poultry tissues is an important issue which needs accurate detection, proper monitoring and sufficient legislation to ensure food safety of people. This research highlights the importance and existence of antibiotics residue in meat. My present study was conducted for the detection of existence of antibiotic residue in broiler liver. Here I use the TLC for the detection of residual antibiotic in broiler liver as it is easy to perform, allow simultaneous analysis of large numbers of samples and give rapid and accurate results in comparison to other methods. In this survey liver extract prepared from 2gm of liver by using trichloroacetic acid 30% and diethyl ether. After pointing and running on TLC plate, chromatograph observed under UV light. Among the 10 samples from various shops 6 positive samples were found, so about 60% of samples contain antimicrobial residue with the standard error of 0.090341. It was stated that probably in some cases chicken meat producers do not respect regulations about withdrawal periods of the veterinary productsItem DVM 3rd year 2nd semester Course-302, 2008(Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2008)Item DVM 3rd year 1st semester Course-301, 2008(CVASU, 2008)Item Study on Profitability of Rearing Goats under Micro Financed Programme at Rural Areas at Some Selected Areas in Faridpur District(Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2008-04) Hasan Lovlu, Md. For the identification of Trichomonas gallinae, wet smear method of oropharyngeal and crop swabs observed under light microscope. This study was carried out from 24 November, 2008 to 28 February, 2009. Out of 60 pigeons, 60% pigeons were found as positive to the protozoan infection in the investigation. Among them, 75% squabs and 46.9% adult birds contained Trichomonas gallinae infection. 50% male and 44.4% female of adult birds found as positive for the infection. 57.4% of live pigeons (n=47) showed positive to the protozoan infection. The frequency of the infection was more in squab (70%) than adult (48.1%) in live pigeons. Out of 27 adult live birds 50% male and 46.7% female were found as positive for the infection. In case of dead pigeons (n=13), 69.2% showed positive to the protozoan infection in the study. Among them, 87.5% squabs and 40% adults contained Trichomonas gallinae infection. 50% male and 33.3% female of adult dead birds found as positive for the infection. On the basis of spatial distribution, 64% pigeon resulted in positive for Trichomonas gallinae infection in rural area (n=25) where as 57.1% in urban area (n=35) of the district. 66% was resulted in positive for Trichomonas gallinae infection at Ovoinagor Upazilla (n=50) and 30% in Monirampur Upazilla (n=10) of Jessore district.Item FORMULATION OF LEAST COST PROBIOTICS FOR POULTRY(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Khulshi-Chattogram, 2009-04) Mahfujur Rahman, MohammadAn experiment was undertaken for testing the efficacy of different probiotics.27quails of 34 days old were used in this experiment, duration was from 5th December, 2008 to 4th February, 2009, at Chittagong. The experiment designed by three treatments group and each treatment having three replications. In each replication, there were 3 birds. Same ration, amount, environment was provided to them. But different probiotic was supplied to them. There was no probiotic used in T-1 groups, marketed probiotic (prosol) supplied to T-2groups, prepared probiotic supplied to T-3 groups. By these work I observed the efficacy of egg production on different probiotic.there was no significant difference among the treatment groups from 7th to 11th weeks but difference in 6th week.egg production started earlier and high at 6th week in prepared probiotic used group. So we can easily replace high cost marketed probiotic by low cost prepared probiotic.Item FOOD, FEEDING AND GROOMING BEHAVIOR OF LARGE INDIAN CIVET (VIVERRA ZIBETHA) IN CAPTIVITY AT CHITTAGONG ZOO.(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Khulshi-Chattogram, 2009-04)Length-weight measurements, food and feeding behavior of large Indian Civet(Viverra zibetha) are carried out at Chittagong Zoo, Chittagong, during December to February 2008-2009. A group of two Civet individuals was studied. The study was based generally on two days observations in a week. The total length weighed and food and feeding behavior were noted by direct observations and measurement. The food items generally supplied to the Civet at Chittagong Zoo are beef only. The average food consumption was 350 gm per day per animal and this is about 5.12% of body weight. When the large Indian Civet see the caretaker coming with their foods, they come down from the platform and/or sitting places and make a to and fro movements on the floors of the cages. They drank water before and after feeding. Self-grooming includes scratching of its own skin and hair roots. In social-grooming the individuals scratch skin and fur of one another.Item A comparative study on production performance of cross-bred and indigenous lactating cows under rural condition at different parities(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Khulshi-Chattogram, 2009-04) Alam, Md. MahbubulThe study was carried out to monitor the comparative milk production performance of cross-bred and indigenous lactating cows under rural environment in different parities. The data of 35 cross-bred and 52 indigenous lactating cows of five different parities were collected. The collected data shows that average daily milk yield and lactation yield of cross-bred lactating cows are 3.05 liter per cow per day and 698.2 liter per cow per lactation respectively which are not much higher than that of indigenous lactating cows, 2.14 liter per day per cow and 435.2 liter per cow per lactation. The result shows that average daily milk yields are higher in forth parity (3.75 lit. for cross-bred and 2.5 lit for indigenous cows) where average lengths of lactation are also high (250 days for cross-bred and 220 days for indigenous cows). It appears that third and fourth parities cross-bred and indigenous cows were suitable for milk production among the other parities studied.Item A SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS OF GOAT REARING RURAL WOMEN IN SOME SELECTED AREAS OF BANGLADESH(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Khulshi-Chattogram, 2009-04) Khatun, Mst. Beside this, socioeconomic condition of the farmers, feeding system and availability of feed for raising ducks, productive performance of scavenging duck and profitability of raising those ducks were evaluated. Information was collected by direct interview method using a questionnaire from 30 house holds (mostly women) who rear duck in this locality. The study revealed that duck rearing is mostly lead by 30 onwards aged women (67%). The level of education of woman beneficiaries varied from primary to higher secondary. However 23.34% farmers were illiterate. Fifty five percent farmers had a patch of cultivable land (Average 20 decimal). The average farm size was 7.2 and it always remain variable with the duck’s loss attributed to different causes. Around 17% of the farmers reared duck with hen. 68% of the farmers housed their ducks in bamboo made cage while the rest of the farmers kept ducks in house made of wood, tin, straw or mud. Eighty nine percent of the farmers used single or combination of materials (straw, polythene, chat, ash) as liter where the rest of the farmers kept ducks without using any litter. The mature ducks were highest (74.2%) in October –December and lowest (45.2%) in April-June. Duck reaches first laying at 6 months of age, produces average 110 eggs per year. Egg production reaches peak during winter specially after crop-harvesting season. Duck consumption by the household specially in winter is highest (52.3%) in Companigonj Upazilla than other area of Bangladesh . The highest number of duck eggs (32.2%) were consumed by the large farmers while the lowest number of eggs (12.4%) were consumed by the landless farmers. Around 78% of the respondents fed their birds with mixture of boil rice and rice polish as it is available and cheap. Ninety-two percent respondents said that they do not spend any money on supplementary feed. The mortality rate was 19% and it is highest in winter (27%). Duck were vaccinated against duck plague on day between 15 and 31 for the first and between 35 and 46 for the booster dose. Around 62% households sold eggs to the local market and 27% sold to the bepari. Total annual expenditure and annual income per duck were on an average 119.15Tk. and 220.69Tk. respectively where as family wise annual expenditure and income were 857.9Tk. and 1661.09 Tk. respectively.Item A Study on Overall Husbandry Practices in Different Dairy Farms at Chittagong Metropolitan Area(Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2009-04) Shahinuzzaman, A. B. M.The study was included preselected 30 dairy farms at Chittagong Metropolitan Area (CMA) to observe their housing, feeding, breeding, sanitation, water management, udder health management, routine farm activities & biosecurity measures which are most essential for a dairy farm operation. It was revealed that 46.65% face in, 43.34% face out, 6.65% mixed & 3.33% others (scattered) housing were practicing in different dairy farms at Chittagong out of which 86.66% farms have separate calf shed. About 35.76% farms offered year round green grass to their animals while 23.42% did not supply any green grass. The crude protein (CP) contents were about 16-17% of supplied concentrate which was almost similar to the recommended level. There was no specific breeding policy maintained in any dairy farm in the study area. In most farms estrous was detected early in the morning. Only 3.35% farms used both Artificial Insemination (AI) & Natural Insemination (NI) whereas 96.65% farms practiced AI. Sub-clinical mastitis was common to all farms out of which 15.21% clinical form. Ascariasis was detected to around 26% dairy farm. Only 3.34% dairy farms practiced machine milking. About 73.33% dairy farms tried to keep AI records only. Finally, the study proved that the improper husbandry practices of dairy farms may lead to less profitable business. So we have to improve the overall husbandry practices in different dairy farms at Chittagong to get the optimum production and benefit as well.Item EFFECTS OF UREA SUPPLEMENTION AND UREA TREATED RICE STRAW DIET ON THE BODY WEIGHT GAIN OF LOCAL EMACIATED CALVES OF BANGLADESH(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Khulshi-Chattogram, 2009-04)Six local calves approximately 1.5 to 2.5 years of age with an average live weight of 64 kg were divided into 3 dietary groups according to some scope and privileges. They were given 3 different straw based rations namely, Urea supplemented diet (Diet-A), Urea-molasses treated rice straw diet (Diet-B) and Untreated rice straw diet (Diet-C). Each animals received 2 kg straw with ad libitum green grass (average 1 kg) daily for 70 days. Total body weight gain and dry matter intake were determined. The total dry matter intake in the dietary animals group-A and B was higher than the dietary animals group-C but not significant (p>0.05) (difference is 13 kg). But significantly higher body weight gain was observed in the animals’ group-B which have given the urea-molasses treated rice straw diet as compared to the urea supplemented diet and urea untreated control group.
