The study was undertaken to assess the status and profitability of the smallholder village dairy system. Seven dairy farms were surveyed from two areas of Bangladesh (Rangamati and Khagrachari). The studied dairy herd consists of 07 to 15 cows. Both indigenous and crossbred cows reared in studying farms. The indigenous cows produce milk 1 to 2.5 liters per day and crossbred cows produce 7 to 10 liters per day. The net annual income for per cow was ranging from taka 3200 to taka 19000. The variety of net annual income of cows mainly due to breed variation, management practices and other operational cost. The study reveals out that crossbred with proper management and lower operational cost leads to increased profitability of the farm. In addition, smallholder village dairy farming system farmers are faced with some constraints.

ASSESMENT OF ANTIBIOTIC RESDUE in broiler LIVER SAMPLE AND ITS PUBLIC HEALTH SIGNIFICANCE
(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal |Sciences University, 2007-02) Alam, Dr. Md. Rasibul
Nowadays broiler may treat most important source of animal protein for the large number of people of Bangladesh. Day by day poultry industry develops gradually and the use of antibiotics also increases not only as growth promoter as well as for controlling infectious diseases. But indiscriminate use of these drugs deposits some residue in different body tissues of poultry. Antibiotic residue in poultry tissues is an important issue which needs accurate detection, proper monitoring and sufficient legislation to ensure food safety of people. This research highlights the importance and existence of antibiotics residue in meat. My present study was conducted for the detection of existence of antibiotic residue in broiler liver. Here I use the TLC for the detection of residual antibiotic in broiler liver as it is easy to perform, allow simultaneous analysis of large numbers of samples and give rapid and accurate results in comparison to other methods. In this survey liver extract prepared from 2gm of liver by using trichloroacetic acid 30% and diethyl ether. After pointing and running on TLC plate, chromatograph observed under UV light. Among the 10 samples from various shops 6 positive samples were found, so about 60% of samples contain antimicrobial residue with the standard error of 0.090341. It was stated that probably in some cases chicken meat producers do not respect regulations about withdrawal periods of the veterinary products

(Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2009-04) Mohiuddin, MD.
This study investigated the current status of sub clinical mastitis in 12 dairy farms in 306 dairy bovine udders at Chittagong metropolitan area over a one-month period. The prevalence of sub clinical mastitis was assessed by the results of physical examinations of the mammary gland and by California Mastitis Test (CMT) from a total of 1224 quarters. The samples were randomly collected from udders apparently normal and those affected by sub clinical mastitis. The cow-based prevalence of sub clinical mastitis defined by a cow having at least one CMT positive quarter was 70% of them affected with sub-clinical mastitis .The prevalence of sub clinical mastitis was higher in sahiwal x Friesian cows (90%) than other breeds and the lowest prevalence of sub clinical mastitis found in ( local x Friesian ) x Friesian cows. The prevalence of sub clinical mastitis was higher in large dairy farm (73%) than small (68%) and medium farm (72%) size. The dairy cows of 5-6 years aged were most susceptible to sub clinical mastitis than other age and old aged cows were less susceptible to sub clinical mastitis. Frequency of mastitis was found to be increased steadily with advancing age.The prevalence of sub clinical mastitis was higher in early lactation (83%) and in mid lactation (80%) than late lactation (74%). Prevalence of sub clinical mastitis among cows of first parity (78%) were higher than others (1-6, 7 & above 7 parity). The frequency of mastitis in front quarter was higher than hind quarter (1.045 times) and the rate of quarter infection was 45%. Prevalence sub clinical of mastitis in pregnant animals (88.61%) were higher as compared with fresh (61.45%). Higher prevalence of sub clinical mastitis (90%) was found in cows producing 5 to 10 liters milk in the morning. Higher prevalence of sub clinical mastitis was found in dirty barn (38%) and dirty teat and udder (40.42%) 0f cows.
