Exploring the Association between Mobility Fluctuations and Socioeconomic Indicators Using Data Mining Techniques in Indonesia and Malaysia
(Daffodil International University, 2023-06-20) Gunawan; Thi, Lip Sam
Human mobility has become a global issue during the Covid-19 pandemic and is believed to be a critical factor in the transmission of Covid -19. The timetable for the government's movement control has stimulated the fluctuation of national mobility. However, the characteristics of variations between regions of the country are not yet understood. The purpose of this study was to characterise community mobility fluctuations in Indonesia and Malaysia and identify the association between socioeconomic indicators and mobility fluctuations in regions. This secondary and exploratory research investigated 34 Indonesian provinces and 14 Malaysian states. Data mining approaches using the CRISP-DM framework and the Knime Analytics platform was used. As a result, Indonesia and Malaysia show the strength of mobility fluctuations in decreasing order: transit stations, workplaces, and residential areas. Malaysia shows higher mobility fluctuations than Indonesia, which may indicate the community's response to the Covid-19 pandemic. As socioeconomic indicators, Human Development Index (HDI), poverty rate, and labor force participation are associated with the fluctuation of mobility. Therefore, regions with high fluctuation in mobility will likely have high HDI, high labour force participation rates, and low poverty rates. High-mobility areas include capitals and other cities with high-density populations. This study provides evidence that socioeconomic indicators are determinants of mobility fluctuation during the pandemic. Regional governments may use the findings to anticipate community mobility and planning policies when similar pandemic conditions occur.

The Effect of Meteorological Conditions on the Stock Market
(Daffodil International University, 23-06-01) Sarker, Shoun
This paper tries to explore the consequence of meteorological conditions on the stock market of Bangladesh by using several econometric techniques like the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) model, General Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedastic (GARCH) model, and Cross-correlation analysis of daily data for the period of 2018-2021. Exploration from the OLS model, the temperature is positively related to daily returns, daily turnover value, and daily market cap value; humidity is positively related to turnover value only. From cross-correlation analysis, the positive association among daily returns, humidity, and temperature; positive association between market cap and temperature; positive association among turnover value, humidity, and temperature. From the GARCH model, statistically significant positive relationship between temperature and returns from the stock market; a statistically significant positive relationship among temperature, humidity, and turnover value from the stock market, and a statistically insignificant relationship among temperature, humidity, and market cap value from the stock market. This is the first attempt to analyze the effect of meteorological conditions (humidity and temperature) on the stock market of developing nations like Bangladesh with different econometric tools. By using the results of this paper, traders will think about their moods before trading onto the stock market; the regulatory body of the stock market will modify the trading system according to investors’ moods and meteorological conditions. The Significance of Early Entrepreneurship Education in Bangladesh
(Daffodil International University, 23-06-01) Ahmed, Rafiuddin; Hossain, Tasmin
The magnificence of early entrepreneurship education is plummeting and attracting the attention of academia recently. It tries to infuse the idea of entrepreneurship that may enhance or assist youth in finding early employment. In this study, the researchers try to investigate the need for Early Entrepreneurial Education (EEE) in Bangladesh and search whether there are any available ventures that are educating or training our youth to get early employment. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the importance of creating a mindset of entrepreneurship from an early stage of life among Bangladeshi teens and tweens. Then they explore the academic pedagogy that is infused among the target cohort who are 10-16 years of age in Bangladesh. This research investigated these objectives by taking Innokids (an educational start-up that focuses on needed skills: life, soft, tech, and business skills and helps kids to be self-employed and be a kidspreneur) as a case study that is operating in Bangladesh to the same cohort. This research followed a Qualitative research approach and collected data from secondary sources where the data were analysed by Qualitative Content Analysis (QCA) and Ethnographic Analysis (EA). The findings were based on case analysis and were found that Innokids is creating behavioural intention among kids to be future entrepreneurs and the academic pedagogies and contents are realistically aligned with the change of their intention. Regarding limitations, this research had to use researchers’ own judgment and observation and had to rely mostly on secondary social media data. This research concludes with academic and industry contributions that further research should be done to see the impact (impact study) and suggests that Innokids may be adopted by stakeholders to create an impact to the community. Keywords: Early Entrepreneurship Education (EEE), Entrepreneurial Education (EE), Entrepreneurial skills, Kidspreneurship, Start-up.

The Roles of Funding Gaps and Life Expectancy in Retirement Income Adequacy
(23-06) Jim-Suleiman, Saratu Lassa; Adeyele, Joshua Solomon
One of the issues leading to retirement income inadequacy under the defined contribution (DC) pension scheme has been attributed to funding gaps. Funding gaps under DC occur when pension contributions as well as investment returns are not regularly credited to employees’ retirement saving accounts (RSAs). In order to determine the effect of funding gaps and life expectancy on retirement income security, this study investigated how determinants of funding gaps and life expectancy affect accumulated funds. The findings showed that employer’s compliance, role of Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), and years of remittance defaults have a positive and significant effect on funding gaps. In contrast, the role of Pension Commission (PenCom) has negative effect on funding gaps. Meanwhile, further investigation revealed that both funding gaps and life expectancy significantly accounted for 83.1% of accumulated pension funds. These findings led to the conclusion that the active roles of PenCom have assisted in recovering up to 62.5% of funding gaps back to employees’ RSAs in Federal Universities in Nigeria. Following the adverse effect of the role of PFAs on accumulated funds, the study recommends that regulatory body should carefully monitor their activities so as to ensure total compliance that will further narrow the existing finding gaps of DC. (Daffodil International University, 23-06-01) Mardianto, M. Fariz Fadillah; Rosa, Helda Urbhani; Firdausy, Aulia Rachma; Firmansyah, Mochammad; Widyatama, Erly; Iffah, Ameliatul
This study provides an overview related to the prediction of prices for staples that are widely consumed by the Indonesian people and often experience price fluctuations at certain times, namely cooking oil, chili, and chicken eggs. Based on the Market Monitoring System and Staples of the Ministry of Trade, the national average price of cooking oil as of January 3, 2022, reached USD 1.17 per liter. The average price of chicken eggs reached USD 1,98 per kilogram, an increase of 20.16% at the same time. In addition, based on the National Strategic Food Price Information Center, the average price of chili in traditional markets throughout the province rose by USD 0.19 or about 3.16% and reached USD 6.29 per kilogram. The prediction of staple food prices in this study was formed using a nonparametric regression model of the Fourier series estimator. This regression model has high flexibility in forming the model and estimating the fluctuation data pattern, which is not known in the form of time-series data. The data in this study is sourced from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center website with the response variables used being the daily prices of cooking oil, chicken eggs, and chili from September 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021, as training data. In addition, the same commodity data from January 1, 2022, to January 10, 2022, is used as testing data. The best model from the estimation results with the Fourier series is a model with an oscillation parameter of 25 which contains a sine cosine basis with a coefficient of determination of 83.05% and an MSE value of 1.628. The selected model also has a very good performance predicting the prices of the three staples with a MAPE value of 1.082%.
