This study necessitates the influence of CSR factors in images of financial organizations like DBBL. The purpose of this research is to identify the components that result in greater image. Fifteen (15) correlated variables are selected from related literatures. Factor analysis has been conducted to reduce the number of total variables because correlations exist among the pairs of variables. Bartlett’s test of Sphericity has been used along with the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) statistic. At present, there are 73 private universities which play a significant role in the tertiary education of Bangladesh and these universities are being regulated by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh under The Private University Act, 2010. Besides, each university has its own leadership style to create competitive advantages which determine their position and success of these universities in this sector. The concept and characteristics of leadership in these private universities cannot be explained in simple words because leadership in the universities is mixed up with rules, regulations, hierarchical structure, friendship, respect, different touch of motivational factors, self-assessment, self-leadership and judgment. It is to mention that not only the concept of leadership, but also the practice of delegation & decentralization of authority in these universities are not revealed. This paper tries to depict the safety condition at high-rise shopping malls at Dhanmondi, Dhaka as well as to emphasize on safety audit to avert fire risk. And, in search of competitive advantages, companies are placing more and more focus on service quality. It has been observed from different researches that service quality contributes to the profitability and productivity of an organization significantly. Service companies like financial institutions can maintain successful relationship with customers if they can maintain quality of services expected by customers and keep the gap between expectation and perception of services minimal. The present study is undertaken to evaluate service quality of a leading private commercial bank in Bangladesh and measure the gap between expectation and perception of customers about financial services offered by it. To measure the quality, SERVQUAL model has been used as a tool with five different dimensions and twenty two statements. A survey has been conducted to evaluate quality and measure the gap of service quality. The management of the bank can get the insights of their service quality based on the scores of different dimensions and may take necessary measures to overcome the weak areas. The study reveals that there are gaps in every dimension of quality of services provided by the bank and the notable gaps lie with assurance, reliability and responsiveness of service quality. So, the bank should take necessary measures immediately in these specific dimensions to enhance quality of services for its sustainabilityItem TAX REVENUE AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF FISCAL POLICY: BANGLADESH PERSPECTIVE(2013-12-17) Tasneem, SaraFiscal policy is of great importance in a developing country like Bangladesh. Tax revenue is not only a tool to implement the fiscal objectives but also a factor to determine fiscal policy effectiveness. The main aim of the study is to portray the contribution of tax revenue to economic growth, macroeconomic stability etc which are intended to be achieved by fiscal policy. Following a time series data from fiscal year 1989-90 to FY 2010-11. The prime finding of the study reveals that the tax revenue strives to attain the fiscal goals. Almighty Allah has bestowed the country with fertile ands and favorable climate, so different types of food crops are produced here in plenty. In this connection, it is crucial to make an efficient marketing system for all types of agricultural crops. In this study, the marketing system of food crops was examined with the help of primary data collected from Chakrakhali pillage of Batiaghata upazilla. This paper investigates that the middlemen acquire the largest margin of rofits. Consequently, the farmers are always deprived of their just shares. Besides this, the farmers face a lot f problems regarding storage of produced crops, credit facility etc. The findings of this study suggest that government intervention in the form of price commission; auction system, cooperative marketing setting, to rage facilities and proper funding are desirable to ensure justice for all the market participantsItem UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES TOWARDS ADVERTISING: A STUDY OF DHAKA CITY OF BANGLADESH(2013-12-17) Ahmed, Sayed FarrukhThis research investigates the attitudes of university students of Dhaka city towards advertising. The data were collected from randomly selected 200 students from both private and public universities in Dhaka city. The respondents were asked to answer a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 20 statements about advertising. R-mode factor analysis, frequency distribution were used to analyze data. The results of the study reveal that students have positive judgment about the economic impact of advertising. However, they have negative judgment about the ethical and social consequences of advertising. The students demand more regulations to control the advertising. The study recommends that advertisers should design factoriented, entertainment, excitement based advertising which may contain some sorts of emotional messages keeping in mind the traditions of Bangladesh. The advertising agencies should create successful advertising messages to reach the customers. Concluding statement in the beginning. This study identifies Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) as a brand and critically evaluates different aspects. Understandably, EBL performs the brand-related activities with some definitive objectives. By investigating the branding activities of one of the customer preferred banks in Bangladesh, it addresses the observations of the existing and probable clients. The research dissects the bank in question from branding point of view and recommends the area of look-out in course of time. The study reveals that over time EBL has been financially benefited through its effective brand management. The findings of this study suggest that EBL should hold its esteem and go for more constructive improvement areas which will pave the way of attaining supremacy among its peers in Bangladesh.Item CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACT ON RICE PRODUCTIVITY IN BANGLADESH AGRICULTURE: AN ECONOMETRIC ANALYSIS(2013-12-17) Ashraf, Mohammad A.This paper has two objectives. First it attempts to detect the trend in the present upshots of global warming temperature data. It has been done through the estimation of the long memory fractional parameter, d using simulation technique in the presence of additive outliers, which stand as wild observations generated in the atmosphere due to global warming. Then, the study investigates into the impact of global warming, precipitations and carbon concentration in the air on the particular aspect of rice production in Bangladesh agriculture. The simulation result exhibits a non-trend or a natural cyclical variability that is influenced by a stochastic process in the case of climate change behavior with wild observations (outliers) that produce a contradictory outcome of profound uncertainties against the case of true world temperature systematic data trend. The results of regression analysis show that climate change has a profound impact on rice productivity in Bangladesh agriculture. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the export challenges of Bangladesh. It has been identified that Bangladesh highly depends on ready-made garment (RMG) exports for its foreign exchange earnings. In spite of great challenges, the country became the world’s second largest exporter of garment goods to the European Union. It also exports a significant amount of goods to the United States. This study identified that the country would lose its buyers if it delayed to take necessary actions for the recent crisis created in this industry. The buyers are warning the country to take immediate steps to solve the crisis. Otherwise, Bangladesh maybe deprived of getting the benefits of Generalized System of Preferences (GSP). To bring back the confidence of the buyers, Bangladesh has to act quickly and promptly by introducing new labor laws for the garment workers.Item COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF LIQUIDITY POSITION OF BANKS: A STUDY ON SOME SELECTED CONVENTIONAL AND ISLAMIC BANKS IN BANGLADESH(2013-12-17) Akhter, Sabrina; Rahman, Shah-noorThe issue of liquidity crisis drew global attention during the recent global recession after several hundred of commercial banks, including few giants, across the globe turned bankrupt following cash starvation putting the savings of their consumers at great stake. Banking sector of Bangladesh faced the ripple effect of the global financial crisis quite heavily. The issue of adequate liquidity maintenance became a great concern for the commercial banks ever since. They felt the liquidity flow issue is of paramount importance to keep the banking system smooth. The study focused on the liquidity management of six commercial banks under two categories - Conventional commercial banking and Islamic commercial banking. A comparative analysis has been carried out to compare the liquidity position of the leading banks in Bangladesh from the period of 2007 to 2011. The analysis took into account both the short-term and the long-term liquidity position and also maturity-wise liquidity position of the six banks. The researchers also analyzed the liquidity position by using the key performance indicators (KPI) of those banks and observed that in case of maintaining liquidity, Islamic banks are in better position than the conventional banks.Item SPONSORSHIP COMMUNICATION STRATEGY FOR THE ASTHMA SOCIETY OF CANADA: IMPLICATIONS FOR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN BANGLADESH(2013-12-17) Shimul, Md. Anwar SadatThe Seja’s Run is a public awareness building program conducted by the Asthma Society of Canada and the Alumni Association of the Toronto French School for the last 18 years. The empirical evidences have shown that the Seja’s Run event can be expanded beyond its present limited audiences and community. The secondary analysis, in this paper, on the non-profit industry in Canada has demonstrated that corporations are significantly contributing to non-profit sector in the form of grants, donation, in-kind supports and sponsorships. However, non-profit organizations need to come up with well-designed communication strategy for soliciting and thereby convincing corporations for sponsorships. Over the previous years, the Seja’s Run got sponsorship mostly through personal relationships and contacts of the people involved in the event committee. After evaluating the present scopes and future potentials of the Seja’s Run, five major current donors of the event were interviewed regarding the event. Based on the comments and feedbacks from these donors, this paper also presents a guideline for designing sponsorship communication strategy for the non-profit organizations in BangladeshItem CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN THE BANKING SECTOR: A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON SOME COMMERCIAL BANKS IN BANGLADESH(2013-12-17) Hassan, Md. ArifThis paper scrutinizes the practices of corporate social responsibility (CSR) by commercial banks in Bangladesh and to assess the need to improve CSR by such organizations. The purpose of the study is to observe the framework of CSR areas and contribution to those areas by the Private Commercial Banks (PCB) and State Owned Banks (SOB) of Bangladesh. This study found that the contribution amount by commercial banks to CSR activities is very insignificant in proportion to their profit amount. This study suggests that a proper guideline by Government regarding CSR contribution, involvement of large corporation in CSR activities and mandating CSR disclosures in the annual report will fulfill the intended goals of the corporate organizations and also ensure a successful and sustainable development of the society.
