Item EFFECT OF PHOSPHORUS AND SULPHUR ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF BRRI DHAN57(Department of Soil Science, 2011-12) AHMED, F. M. SHAMIMAn experiment was conducted at the Research Field of the Department of Soil Science, Sher-eBangla Agricultural University. Dhaka, during the period from July, 2013 to December, 2013 to study the performance of BRRI dhan57 regarding to growth, yield and yield contributing characters tinder the AEZ-28. The two factors experiment consists with four levels of Phosphorus (1 1 ) viz. P0 : without Phosphorus (control), P,: 20 kg ha ', P 2: 40 k ha' and P3: 60kg ha' and four levels of Sulphur viz S without Sulphur (control). S 1 : 10 kg hi , 5 2 : 20 kg ha t and S: 30 kg ha The experiment was laid out in Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) method with three replications and analysis was done by the MSTAT-C package program whereas means were adjusted by DMRT at 5% level of probability. It was found that all the traits were statistically significant due to Phosphorus whereas 40 kg P ha' recorded the tallest plant (109.70 cm) at harvest and maximum tillers hill 1 (17.58) at 85 DAT. Phosphorus (ã 40 kg ha' also recorded the greater results on effective tillers hill-' (13.67), panicle length (22.04 cm). filled grains panicle (138.60). 1000-grain weight (30.75 g), weight of grain, straw and biological (5.12. 8.39 and 13.51 ha', respectively) and harvest index (37.85%) at harvest while without phosphorus obtained the lower results on the above. In case of Sulphur, all the traits were significant except plant height at I 55. 85 DAT and at harvest filled grains panicl&" and 1000-grain weight whereas 20 kg S ha obtained the tallest plant (109.40cm) at harvest and maximum tillers hilF' (16.28) at 85 DAT. The maximum effective tillers hill' (12.12), longest panicle (21.35), higher weight of grain, straw and biological (4.75, 8.08 and 12.82 t hi'. respectively) and harvest index (36.90 1/o) were taken in 20 kg S ha' at harvest. It was also observed the minimum non effective tillers hill ' (2.83) and unfilled grains panicle-1 (12.04) whereas all the Sulphur levels produced statistically similar filled grains panicle' and 1000-grain weight at harvest due to non significant variation. All the studied characters were also significantly affected by die interaction effect between Phosphorus and Sulphur fertilizers whereas interactions affect between 40 kg P and 20 kg S ha 1 perlbrm the best comparatively than that of other interactions. As a result, the tillers production had more at 85 DAT whereas the maximum tillers hill' was 18.10. Plant height had also higher (111.60cm) in 40 kg P + 20 kg S ha•' at harvest. The interaction of 40 kg I' + 20 kg S ha' also produced maximum effective (15.53) and minimum non effective tillers liii! 1 (1.97), longest panicle (23.26 cm), maximum filled (141.40) and minimum unfilled grains panicle -' (7.87), highest weight of 1000 grain (31.63 g), higher yield of grain, straw and biological (5.64. 8.97 and 14.60 t ha ')and higher Hi (38.59%) whereas they were statistically significant among other interactions in respect of all the above traits. Nutrient content and uptake of N, P, K. and S by grain and straw were also significantly affected by the singly or interaction effect of P and S in this study whereas the highest N. P. K and S nutrient content by grain (0.3540. 1.708. 0.3179 and 1.561%. respectively) and straw , (0.1160, 0.8881, 0.0929 and 0.2894%, respectively) were recorded in 40 kg P hi' which was also showed the higher uptake by grain (16.82. 81.65. 15.27 and 75.63 kg ha ', respectively) and straw (9.74, 74.54. 7.80 and 24.29 kg ha '. respectively). Statistically similar observation was also obtained by 20 kg S ha ' and 40 kg P x So. therefore, the present findings obviously recommended that 40 kg P ha ' or 20 kg S hi' singly or their interactions would be optimum level for getting the higher production of BRRI dhan57.Item EFFECT OF FERTILIZER AND MANURE WITH DIFFERENT WATER MANAGEMENT ON THE GROWTH, YIELD AND QUALITY OF BRRI DHAN 28(Department of Soil Science, 2011-12) ISLAM, M. M. AL FAKITRULThe experiment was conducted in the farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. Bangladesh during the period from December 2010 to April 2011 to study the effect of various manure and inorganic fertilizer with different water management on the growth and yield of boro rice. BRRI dhan28 was used as the rice variety in this experiment. The experiment consists of 2 factors i.e. irrigation and fertilizer plus manure. Two levels of irrigations (1 0 = Alternate wetting and drying and I,= Continuous flooding) were used with 8 levels of fertilizer plus manure, as To: Control, T 1 : 100% RDCF N1 P15 K.45S20 Zn2. i'2: 10 ton cowdung/ha, T 3: 50% RDCF ± 5 ton cow dung/ha, T4: 8 ton poultry manure/ha, T5: 50% RDCF + 4 ton poultry manure/ha, T6: 10 ton vermicompostlha and T7 : 50% RDCF 4- 5 ton vermicompostiha with 16 treatment combinations and 3 replications. At the harvest, the yield parameters and yields were recorded and the grain and straw samples were analyzed for N. P, K and S. The irrigation had no significant single effect on the yield and yield parameters while the higher yields were obtained from continuous flooding (Ii). The Yield contributing characters and yields were significantly affected by fertilizer and manure and the highest effective tillers/hill (11.17). panicle length (22.90 cm), 1000 seed wt. (21.83 g), grain yield (5.92 kg/plot) and straw yield (5.91 kg/plot) were found from T 5 (50%RDCF + 4 ton poultry manure/ha) treatment and lowest in To treatment. The higher grain and straw yields were found by the application of organic plus inorganic fertilizers compared to the use of chemical fertilizer alone. The yield parameters were significantly influenced by combined application of irrigation and fertilizer and the highest grain (5.93 kg/plot) and straw yields (6.42 kg/plot) were recorded from 1o1'5 (Alternate wetting and drying + 50% RDCF+ 4 ton poultry manure/ha) and lowest grain yield (3.64 kg/ha) from 1 1 T0 (Continuous flooding + control) treatment combination and 63% grain yield increased over control. Irrigation did not significantly influence the grain and straw nutrient concentration and uptake while higher amounts of NPKS were up taken in continuous flooding. The boro rice grain and straw nutrient concentrations were significantly affected by the application of fertilizer and manure and application of fertilizer plus manure. The highest concentrations of grain N (1.392 %), P (0.280 %), K (0.356 %), S (0.128 %) and straw NPKS were recorded from T5 treatment and lowest from To treatment. Similarly, nutrient concentrations were recorded in 10T 5 and 11T5 treatment combinations. The levels of organic matter and nutrient concentration were increased in the post harvest soils where manure plus inorganic fertilizer were used.Item INTEGRATED EFFECT OF ORCANLC MANURES AND NITROGEN ON YIELD CONTRIBUTING CHARACTERS AND YIELD 'kc4 OF RICE (BRRI dhan29)(Department of Soil Science, 2011-12) ISLAM, MD.
