Item PHYSIO-MORPHOLOGICAL RESPONSE OF Capsicum annum TO WATER STRESS AND EXOGENOUS APPLICATION OF PYRABACTIN(DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, 2013-12) DAS, BANALATAABSTRACT The study was carried out in the Horticulture farm and laboratories of Sher-eBangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from November 2012 to February 2013 to study Physio-morphological response of Capsicum annum to water stress and exogenous application of pyrabactin. The experiment consisted of seven treatments, viz., T 1 = 100% optimum water, T 2 = 50% of Optimum water, T 3 = 50% of Optimum water + pyrabactin 50ppm, T 4 = 50% of Optimum water + pyrabactin 100ppm, T 5 = 25% of Optimum water, T 6 = 25% of Optimum water + pyrabactin 50ppm, T 7 = 25% of Optimum water + pyrabactin 100ppm. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. Among the six treatments of water stress condition except the optimum water condition, results showed that the maximum plant height, number of branch per plant, fresh weight per plant, TDM, number of fruit per plant, fruit length, fruit diameter, indi vidual fruit weight was recorded in T 4 treatment. The maximum yield of fruits per plant (728.3 g) was also recorded from T 4 treatment which was close to the yield of fruit (952.1 g) recorded in T 1 . Comparing with other water stress condition T4 gave the best result and application of pyrabactin minimized water stress affect. So pyrabactin may be use in cultivation to minimize yield reduction in drought condition.Item EFFECT OF SPACING AND CORMEL SIZE ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF MUKHIKACHU (Colocasia esculenta L. Scott)(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2013-12) SIKDER, RIPON KUMARA study was conducted at the Horticultural Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from February 2012 to March 2013. Cormels of mukhikachu cv. Bilashi were used for the research work. The experiment consisted of two factors: Factor A: Plant spacing (4 levels) as- S : 60 cm × 20 cm, S 2 : 60 cm × 30 cm, S size (3 levels) as- C 1 3 : 60 cm × 40 cm and S : Small size (5.0-7.5 g), C 4 1 : 60 cm × 50 cm; Factor B: Cormel 2 : Medium size (7.5-10.0 g) and C : Large size (10.0-12.5 g). The two factors experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. For plant spacing and cormel size, most of the studied characters showed statistically significant variation. The highest yield of corm and cormel per hectare (5.58 and 26.15 ton) was attained from S , whereas the lowest (4.45 and 16.64 ton) from S . In case of cormel size, the highest yield of corm and cormel per hectare (5.87 and 23.89 ton) was found from C 1 , again the lowest (4.39 and 21.10 ton) from C . For interaction effect, the highest weight of corm and cormel per hectare (6.76 and 28.19 ton) was recorded from S 1 , while the lowest (3.96 and 15.16 ton) from S 1 C . It was revealed that 60 cm × 40 cm plant spacing with large size (10.0-12.5 g) cormel was best in consideration of growth and yield of mukhikachu.Item INFLUENCE OF PLANT HORMONE, MICRONUTRIENTS, ANTITRANSPIRANT AND POLYTHENE SHED ON SUMMER TOMATO(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2013-12) ALAM, MD. JAHANGIRA pot experiment was carried out at Horticulture Farm, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from May 2013 to September 2013. The experiment consisted of two factors: Factor A: P : without polythene shed and P 1 0 : with polythene shed condition; Factor B: foliar application of F : tap water, F 1 : 4-CPA, F 2 : Zn, B, Mn, Se @ 100 ppm : Kaolin @ 2% solution and F : Zn, B, Mn and Se@ 100 ppm, 4-CPA and Kaolin @ 2% solution. OF HORTICULTURE, 2013-12) Haque, Firoj AsadulAn experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207 during the period from October 2012 to February 2013 to study the effect of nitrogen and spacing on the growth and yield of cabbage. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications and includes of Factor A: four levels of urea; N 0 : Control, N , N 2 : 250 kg ha -1 and N 3 : 350 kg ha -1 , and Factor B: three plant spacing; S (50 cm x 30 cm), S 2 (50 cm x 40 cm) and S (50 cm x 50 cm). At 80 DAT the highest plant height (37.2 cm), diameter of head (19.5 cm) from N 3 but fresh weight of head (2.1 kg from N 2 ) was found from N 2 and the lowest from N 3 . On the other hand, at 80 DAT the highest plant height (35.3 cm), diameter of head (19.2 cm) and fresh weight of head (1.8 kg) were found in S (2.3 kg from N 2 S 3 3 and the lowest from S ) and marketable yield (128.9 tha 0 1 1 :150 kg ha 1 . The highest fresh weight of head -1 ) were recorded from N and, the lowest fresh weight of head (1.1 kg from N 0 S 1 ) and marketable yield (53.3 tha ) from N . The maximum benefit-cost ratio (4.7) was recorded in the treatment combination of 250 kg urea ha 0 S 3 -1 with spacing 50 cm × 30 cm(N ) while the lowest in N 0 S (2.1). So, it can be concluded from economic point of view, 250 kg urea ha -1 3 with spacing 50 cm × 30 cm is suitable for growth and yield of cabbage.Item MITIGATION OF SALT STRESS IN TOMATO WITH CALCIUM NITRATE(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2013-12) NIZAM, REZOWANAThe pot experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from November 2013 to April 2014.BARI Tomato-5was used as planting material. The two factors experiment was laid out in RCBD with four replications. The factors are: Factor A: Five levels of sodium ( 0 : control (ii) vi 1 : 2, (iii) 2 : 4, (iv) : 8 dS/m and Factor B: Three concentration of calcium 2+ 0 : Control 1 : 5 and 2 : 10 mM Ca 2+ respectively. The results of this experiment showed that, the salt stress reduced the morphological parameters and yield and highest value was observed at control. The present results also showed that, Ca 4 2+ significantly increased the growth contributing characters as well as yield of tomato in both saline and nonsaline conditions. For combined effect, tallest plant This result suggests that, exogenous Ca 2+ 0 M 2 3 : 6 and (v ; whereas the lowest from L can effectively mitigate the deleterious effect of salt stress in tomato.Item RESPONSE OF BELL PEPPER TO SHOOT PRUNING AND FOLIAR FEEDING OF MICRONUTRIENTS(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2013-12) AWALIN, SADIAThe experiment was conducted at the Horticulture farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during October 2012 to April 2013. Capsicum cultivar “Lamuyo” was used as experimental materials. The experiment consisted of two factors: Factor A: Shoot pruning 0 : No pruning and P : Shoot pruning and Factor B: Foliar applications of micronutrients 0 : Control 1 : Boron @ 100 ppm as H 3 BO : Zinc @ 100 ppm as ZnSO 4 ; M 3 : Cupper @ 100 ppm as CuSO 4 ; M : Manganese @ 100 ppm as MnSO 4 and M 5 4 : Mixed micronutrients @ 100 ppm each. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design , while minimum fruit setting 1 . For micronutrients, maximum fruit setting 0 , while minimum fruit setting 0 5 . For interaction effect highest yield 1 M and lowest yield 0 M 0 5 . Therefore, shoot pruning and mixed micronutrients showed best potentiality for bell pepper cultivation.Item GROWTH AND YIELD OF CABBAGE AS INFLUENCED BY GA3 AND PHOSPHORUS(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2013-12) AFRIN, FALGONIThe experiment was conducted in the Horticulture Farm, Shar-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during October 2012 to March 2013. The experiment consisted of two factors: Factor A: Three levels of Gibberellic acidGA 3 i.e. G 0 : 0 1 : 70 and G 2 : 90 GA and Factor B: Four levels of phosphorus as- P 0 : 1 : 120; P 2 3 : 140 and P 3 : 160 kg P /ha, respectively. The two factorial experiment was laid out in the Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. For gibberellic acid, the highest gross weight of head , while the lowest gross weight of head . For phosphorus, the highest gross weight of head 0 , whereas the lowest gross weight of head 2 . For combined effect, the highest gross weight of head 1 P 2 0 and the lowest gross weight of head 0 P 0. The highest BCR and the lowest 0 P 0 . So, 70 ppm GA 3 with 140 kg P 2 O /ha is the best for growth and yield of cabbage.Item STUDY ON THE FLORAL BEHAVIOR AND PETAL COLORATION OF SOME ROSE CULTIVARS(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2013-12) SHARMIN, SHAHRINAn experiment was conducted at Horticulture farm in Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Bangladesh to evaluate the floral behavior of rose cultivars during the period from October 2012 to March 2013. Field experiment included forty four rose cultivars V 1 to V . Rose cultivars varied significantly with different characteristics on growth, floral behavior and petal coloration. Among 44 cultivars 17 red , 9 pink to pinkish, 6 yellow to yellowish, 3 orange, 2 white to whitish, 2 violet, 2 creamy white, 1 magenta and 1 black colored flower producing cultivars were found respectively. A single cultivar was wild type. Cultivars V 44 , V 4 , V 14 , V 16 , V 21 , V 23 , V 25 , V 26 , V 30 and V were found best as cut flowers those contained solitary flower in a single stalk and petal arrangements were compact and the rests were suitable as pot or bedding flower.Item MORPHOLOGICAL AND YIELD ATTRIBUTES OF BRINJAL IN RESPONSE TO GIBBERELLIC ACID(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2013-12) MD. AL IMRANThe experiment was conducted to investigate the growth and yield of brinjal with GA 3 at Horticultural farm, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during period fromOctobor 2012 to February 2013. Two factors experiment included 3 brinjal varietiesviz. V 1 (BARI Begun-4), V 2 (BARI Begun-7), V 3 (BARI Begun-8) and 4 Gibberellic Acid (GA 3 ) concentrations viz. G 0 (Control), G 1 (50 ppm GA 3 ), G 2 (100 ppm GA 3 ) and G 3 (150 ppm GA 3 ) was outlined in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Experimental results showed that variety had significant effect on allparameters except days to 1 st flowering and days to 1 st fruit set. The highest yield (50.4t/ha) was recorded in V 1 while the minimum yield (38.0 t/ha) was recorded in V 3 .Concentration of GA 3 also significantly influenced all the growth and yield attributes except number of leaves, number of branches, days to 1st flowering and days to 1 fruitset.The results showed that G 2 produced maximum yield (51.6 t/ha) while the minimumyield (32.4 t/ha) was recorded in G 0 plants. For combined effect, the highest yield (59.2t/ha) was recorded in V 1 G 2 and the lowest (28.6 t/ha) in V 3 G 0 . So, it can be concludedthat ‘BARI Begun-4’ treated with 100 ppm GA 3 combindly gave the maximum yield. stItem PHENOTYPC CHARACTERIZATION OF CHRYSANTHEMUM CULTIVARS(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2013-12) TAUFIQUE, TROPAA pot experiment was conducted at Horticulture farm. Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. Bangladesh from October 2012 to March 2013 to characterize chrysanthemum cultivars on the basis of phenotypic traits. This experiment had 32 chrysanthemum cultivars coded from V 1 to V 32 using Completely Randomized Design (CR1)) with three replications. These cultivars were categorized into 13 groups provided by National Chrysanthemum Society Classification, USA. The cultivar V7 (Yellow Glow) was the top scored cultivars for the studied phenotypic characteristics. The cultivars V 1 (Crimson Tide), V 2 (Samsan), V 3 (White Snowball). V 4 (Chandramukhi). V 10 (Sunny Yellow), V13 (Purple Mum), V16 (Pink Shasta Daisy) and V (Red Wing) were categorized as cut flowers and rest of the cultivars were categorized in pot or bedding flowers. All the 32 chrysanthemum cultivars were divided into a wide color range in accordance to Royal Horticultural Society (RI-IS) Color Chart. These findings will be helpful for commercial users as well as flower breeders.
