    A Study on ICT Skills of TVET Trainee Teachers of Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia

    The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an important aspect of education. Numerous benefits of using ICT in education have been unearthed therefore; ICT should be widely used in teaching. However, in order to use ICT, TVET teachers have to have certain level of confidence. They have to be prepared to use ICT in their learning /teaching activates. In relation to that, this study sought to identify TVET trainee teachers‘ competence in using ICT. A test was developed to measure the basic ICT skills of TVET trainee teachers, teachers from Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. The respondents comprised of 40 trainee teachers of Technical Trainers College (TTC) in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh and 30 trainee teachers of Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Bangladesh. The finding shows that Bangladesh TVET trainee teachers have average level of ICT skills and Saudi TVET trainee teachers have competence in basic ICT skills less average standard of using ICT according to IUT assessment standards (IUT CALANDAR, 2012). The study also showed a significant difference in the level of basic ICT skills of TVET trainee teachers among two countries

    A Study on the Relevance of B.Sc.T.E Curriculum with the Occupational Tasks of TVET Teachers

    This study was aimed to study the relevance of B.Sc.T.E curriculum of IUT in specialization of Instrumentation and Control Technology with the occupational tasks of technical vocational education and training teachers. The total number of population was TVET teachers in Dhaka Mohila Polytechnic and M.Sc.T.E students of IUT those who are currently TVET teacher. The results show that the occupational tasks of TVET teachers are very similar with the subject content of B.Sc.T.E curriculum of IUT for specialization of Instrumentation and Control Technology. The Teachers of Dhaka Mohila Polytechnic were very cooperative and helpful in providing required information for completing this research work. The subject contents of B.Sc.T.E curriculum was found almost adequate to provide required and trained teachers for polytechnic institutions.

    A Study to Identify the Problems Faced by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Teachers of Universities in Somalia

    Teachers at the higher educational institutions face many problems, especially Information and Communication Technology (ICT) teachers at the university level in Somalia. There is no doubt that those ICT teachers in Somalia face many educational, financial, security, administrative problems and many others. The present study was aimed to identify various problems faced by ICT teachers of the universities in Somalia. The population of the study comprised of All ICT teachers at seven selected universities in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. A questionnaire was used for gathering information regarding the opinions of ICT teachers at the seven selected universities in Mogadishu regarding the problems they were facing. The main findings of this study indicated that ICT teachers face number of problems in different areas. They face educational problems such as lack of good teaching materials. Related to professional development there is no quality training program for them and they are also not provided opportunity for higher studies. The promotion policy is not followed properly and there is a need to change promotion policy as it is discriminatory. ICT teachers also face financial difficulties as they have indicated; especially they need improvement in salary scale and also other facilities that are poor or nonexistent. From the analysis of narrative data it was also found that ICT teachers were not satisfied with the fringe benefits, their pay scale and teaching load. At the end of the study recommendations were made to improve their working conditions, promotion policy, professional development program, and solve other problems mentioned above.

    A study to identify the problems faced by serving electrical and electronic engineers in Somalia

    Electricity is one of those discoveries that have changed the daily life of everybody on the planet. Electricity is the key component to modern technology and without it most of the things that we use everyday simply could not work, and would never have been created. Our mobile phones, our computers, the Internet, our heating systems, our televisions, and our light bulbs - nearly everything in the home would be completely different. Telecommunication plays an important role in our life today. Generally telecommunication is the transmission of signal over a distance for purpose of sending information. By sharing information, human can get such a development today. Information is even considered to be one of standard criteria to assess life quality of a man. Life quality of a man is assessed according to the amount of information he get and means of approaching information. So the currently working engineers in these two main industries (Electric, Telecommunication) faces lot of problems during their normal service. This present study aimed to identify various problems faced by serving electrical and electronic engineers in Somalia. The population of the study comprised of electrical and electronic engineers in four private companies in Somalia. There were many public and private companies in the country. The questionnaires were used for gathering information regarding the opinions of electrical and electronic engineers about the problems faced by serving. The main findings of this study indicated that electrical and electronic engineers face number of problems in management and administration, working environment, promotion, working conditions and safety, benefits/fringes, financial facilities etc.

    A Study to Suggest a Strategy for Retaining Teachers of Technical and Vocational Education in Katsina State, Nigeria

    The purpose of this study was to identify the strategies for retaining Technical Teachers of Technical and Vocational Educational Institutions in Katsina State. The study examined among others: the causes of technical teachers leaving the teaching profession to other jobs and strategies to be adopted for retaining highly qualified, experienced technical teachers in the teaching profession. The study also examined the strategies to be adopted to retain technical teachers in Katsina State’s Technical and Vocational Education Institutions. Three research questions were formulated to guide the study. A 41 items survey questionnaire was developed and used to elicit responses from technical education administrators, technical education principals/vice principals and technical teachers in technical and vocational education institutions who constituted sample. The data was analyzed using weighted averages. The findings revealed that some of the causes of technical teachers leaving the teaching profession for other jobs as follow: (1) lack of appreciation by the Government for job well done. (2) Better condition of service in the private sectors and (3) Lack of equipment and working tools for projects in technical and vocational education institutions. The findings also revealed some of the strategies to be adopted to retain technical teachers in the teaching profession: (1) Technical teachers should earn the same as their counterpart with the same qualifications in industry. (2) Provide technical teachers’ allowance (3) Provide working tools (hands, measuring and marking out tools). Based on the findings: the researcher recommended that: (1) Strategies for retaining technical teachers identified in this study should be incorporated into the retention of technical teachers exercise by the various technical education administrators of Katsina State (2) Katsina State Government should through its ministry and school boards set her machinery for implementing the findings of this study. (3) Both the state and local government of Katsina State should address with seriousness the problems of non-availability and/or the existence of ill-equipped workshops and lack of electricity supply to the Schools.

    A Study on Entrepreneurship Education in TVE System in Uganda

    This thesis discusses the study on entrepreneurship education in Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) system at university level. Convenience sampling was used to obtain the sample size of 34(thirty four) teachers from the five selected universities in Uganda. The study aimed at to know how entrepreneurship education is currently being addressed, in terms of general approaches and subject curricula and to recommend the National strategies and action plans that are to be prepared for the integration of entrepreneurship education in TVE system. Data was collected using well designated questionnaire. The thesis also discusses the several factors affecting and limiting entrepreneurship education in Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) system at university level such as lack of facilities like computers for effectives teaching of entrepreneurship education, course being taught theoretically than practically thus not favoring quick understanding since most of the lecturers lack experience on practical business, institutions not sourcing the resourceful person to offer services, unfavorable learning environment for students like strikes within institutions etc. The main findings of the research were; various industries and other sectors are involved in promoting and developing entrepreneurship education through industrial visits and internship to the students, business plans and projects are not being used by students to show there competence in entrepreneurship, institutions do not inspire teachers to teach the subject, teachers are not trained to cope with the changes in technology and Government policy measures influence the entrepreneurship education
