    The Reality of Absurdity as Reflected in Sayeed Ahmad's Milepost

    The paper attempts to analyze the absurd play Milepost (1976) of Sowed Ahmed who was writing about 'helplessness', 'human frustration'. 'uncertainties'. and about the indifference of 'all-powerful Nature', along with a note of 'hope and waiting.- all of which he makes us experience directly. This study is an attempt to shed some more light on Ahmad's plays. particularly on Milepost, since the researcher believes, there is still much work needed to be done on Ahmad's plays. It is narrative research and follows descriptive-cum analytical method. The textual references are given as evidence to support the argument of this research. Some key concepts relating to 'Absurdity'. 'Waiting and Hope' are discussed in relation to the text. Ahmad epitomizes absurdity as reality: Through the journey of the characters. we realize what the playwright intends us to realize. Milepost also focuses on how man is able to confront and survive against the hostility surroundings and expose the real reality of absurdity of humanity This play highlights the strength of the human spirit and ask the audience to reflect on their own lives. It helps us grasp the reality of absurdity and makes us realize that we can either accept the absurdity of life or fight against it as long as possible. It is found that the characters do not just struggle with absurdity: alienation; they struggle with the real reality of the life they live in.

    Writingin Bangladesh

    Writing needs writers' control over a good number of variables at a time e.g. grammar (s). mechanics and usages. The Honours and Bachelor (Pass Course) students of Nation( University (NU) of Bangladesh are taught ; Wring with a course called National University Compulsory English Course (NUCEC). Writing of around two million students of Bangladesh under National University depend on the NUCEC. The study has investigated into 21 classrooms of 21 colleges in 3 dhisions of Bangladesh (Dhaka. Rajshahi and Rangpur) and has found out the status of overall proficiency level (OPL) of NU students in practices of writing e.g. situational writing, newspaper writing, institutional writing, personal, formal and informal letters. paragraph writing, essay writing and different grammatical items of NUCEC such as correcting, completing and transforming sentences etc. The study has revealed the overall growth rate of the practices (OGRP) of writing with minimum level of standard (AILS) in consideration of students' sense of accuracy in using grammar, mechanics and usages to produce writing. The study has finally demonstrated the overall rate of NU students having the AILS in writing. The research methodology includes survey, interview observation and proficiency tests as data collection methods. The data collection instruments include 3 sets of questionnaires for teachers, students and administrators, 2 check lists for observing classroom facilities and teaching-learning methods and techniques and II different test papers for testing learners' proficiency on 11 writing items in the course. The sample size of the study is 504 which was taken purposely. Keywords: NUCEC, overall proficiency level (OPL), Overall Growth Rate of Practice (OGRP) of Writing.     Using English Movies in English Classrooms at Tertiary Level in Bangladesh

    Keeping the tech-savvy learners of the 21st century in mind, classroom teaching is no longer confined to only printed texts. To reach the entertainment lover learners, it has become a trend of the time to ensure edutainment where education is disseminated to the learners through entertainment. This paper attempts to investigate how far it is effective to use English movies in enhancing students' linguistic competency along with textual comprehension at tertiary level 'English classrooms through a questionnaire survey and a semi-structured interview. Participants, both teachers and learners, of this study are from the department of English of four private universities in Bangladesh. Though, in general, 'English classrooms' refer to only English language classrooms, in this paper the term 'English classrooms' includes both English language and English literature classrooms. The paper critically seeks to explore the perceptions of both teachers and students on issues like: (I) To what extent teachers and students are aware of the effectiveness of using English movies in 'English classrooms? (ii) Is there any gap between the synchronization of the objectives, process and outcomes of the approach?, and (iii) How to optimize the effectiveness of using English movies in 'English classrooms' facing the probable challenges?

    Tertiary Learner's Attitudes Towards Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) in Bangladesh

    This study investigates the status of Communicative Language Teaching (Cat among the tertiary learners of Bangladesh by examining their beliefs, feelings, and attitudes towards it. The participants are from various departments of a public university where English is taught at least as a full credit course. To gather the data from them, questionnaires were used and interviews nem taken. The analyses of both data types show that the students are highly interested in CLT methodology Form-based instruction may no longer be effective enough in English teaching here where designing tasks to make them communicatively competent has become inevitable. The results also signify that the learners' need is to be given the prime priority in designing language curricula for them.

    Investigating the Effectiveness of Peer Teaching / Learning in Language Classrooms

    In language teaching, many techniques have been used by teachers for many years to make learning effective and interesting. Peer teaching is one of those teaching techniques adopted by teachers to foster a better learning environment. This study aims at finding out the effectiveness of peer learning and teaching both from the perspectives of peer-teacher and peer-tutee at the tertiary level of Bangladesh. Students were involved in taking classes of their classmates and later their opinion was collected through survey questionnaire and Focus Group Discussion. The participants appreciated peer teaching in language learning and they also reported improving many social skills along with better learning of the subject matter. The study concludes with the remark that peer teaching is an effective method of teaching language at the tertiary level and it should be applied extensively in the classroom by teachers.

    Utilitarian Knowledge with a Rhetorical Flourish

    This article examines some of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's selected speeches from a thematic, stylistic and linguistic points of view. The intended themes of the speeches have been analyzed with utilitarian, moral, philosophical, social and educational significance. The styles of his oration, usage of rhetorical figures and other literary elements, diction, and structures of language also have been elaborately explained with scrutinizing eyes. The study observes the speeches containing worthy messages and valuable suggestions with pragmatic and inspiring value blended with appealing rhetoric and wonderful linguistic expressions that simultaneously help the audience to be a skilled social being to fitly implement the materialistic value of life and to be enchanted and entertained as well. The glowing light from each of his famous quotes unceasingly spread the beam of hope and aspirations among the young and old, deprived or frustrated, worried, or contended alike.

    English Language Teaching Through YouTube

    The study attempts to explore the present scenario of YouTube language teaching in Bangladesh and to define how the Tubers select material and conduct classes on YouTube. This study explored ten renowned YouTube language channels in terms of some variables like video characteristics, attractiveness, clarity reaction. content. skills and teaching methodology. For this purpose. a questionnaire survey is conducted and naturalistic observation is carried out. In addition, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was made to get learners' opinions. The findings show that except for three channels most of them are following the traditional approach of language teaching. The findings also indicate that most of the facilitators belong to nonlinguistic backgrounds and do not have any teacher training experience. Again. inadequate focus is given in developing individual language skills. Therefore, YouTube language teaching needs modification.

    Hot or Not? a Taxonomic Exploratory Case Study for ELE at Tertiary Level Bangladesh

    It is generally perceived that learners being taught for years are found inefficient tofonnulate, develop and understand the practical problems at their workplace (BBS, 2018 cited in Tuhin. 2018; Fayaaz, Danish & Hassan, 2019; Neazy, 2019). Not surprisingly, much of these skills are already categorized as higher-order thinking (after this NOV skills in Bloom (1956) & Original Taxonomy (hereafter 07) and the widely accepted Revised Taxonomy (henceforth RT) provided by Anderson (2001). Students and graduates interviewed for HEQEP (Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project) report 2018 identified their ability to communicate in English as the second most important skill to be acquired by a graduate (p.9). While the employers, interviewed at the same, shared that the two basic skills that they consider when hiring a graduate am academic qualification and cognitive skills (p. 12). The recent World Bank report (2019) also stated that only a handful of private universities are experimenting with courses to provide HOT and soft skills among students (p.40). The current paper, therefore, took on the task to investigate the taxonomic value of the existing course objectives and question papers, offered for the first-semester students offspring 2019 at an English department purposively, based on the framework provided by Krathwohl (2002) in order to identify the cognitive range. The findings suggest the scope officer insight required from the academia for enhanced cognitive ability at teaching, learning, and assessment which will amplify English literacy among our graduates.

    Flipped Classroom for EFL Learners

    This paper tends to investigate whether EFL learners are developing their language skills as a result of the use of Flipped Classroom as a pedagogical strategy at Daffodil International University or not. In the beginning, an overview of the Flipped Classroom is given: then, the paper examines the perspectives of both the teach-ers and the students regarding their use of the Flipped Classroom. Thirdly, an analysis of the survey on the Flipped Classroom is discussed. And finally, suggestions are made to ensure the highest benefit of EFL students from the Flipped Classroom. The researchers try to show how Flipping the Classroom can improve EFL learners 'skills.

    A Comparative Study on the Management of Digital Assets in Virtue of Fiduciary Relationship

    In this era of digital communication, people keep living online even after death. Digital information stored in a personal computer; information stored in cloud backups, online digital accounts and records of digital communications is recognized as digital assets in various countries. As the extent of digital assets is ever-evolving, a perfect balance between the concerning rights and privacy issues should be constructed without any gap. The paper ventures to examine the legal extent of digital assets with illustration and exceptions by comparing American and Canadian legislations. Some recent cases have been analyzed to find out the taxonomy of obstacles faced by the family members while getting access to deceased digital assets even after a court order in fast. The paper examined the existing user end policy of popular digital service providing companies with the intent to find out issues connected proteins with digital assets rights which are not recognized by the existing policies. Society can deny the significant values of digital assets and that's why fiduciaries should get access to virtual assets or accounts holding such assets of a deceased or person with disabilities. The paper has compared thefirnctionaliry of different American state legislations and the American federal and Canadian uniform legislation for the management of digital assets and record of digital communication in virtue of fiduciary relationship. Many states lack similar legislation and Bangladesh is also not an exception. Policymakers needed to be aware of such novus legal developments for safeguarding the rights and interest of the citizens. The paper concluded by providing recommendations for the policymakers.
