Rajibul Hasan Rony, Md. Rajibul HasanLumpy skin Disease (LSD) is a transboundary disease of cattle originated in Africa. In recent years it has emerged in different countries with a severe impact on production. Bangladesh has now encountered the second consecutive year’s outbreak of LSD. The first outbreak occurred in 2019 while disease manifested with high fever, skin nodules and edema. The reported morbidity rate was 10 to 20% with a 1-5% mortality rate. Sharp decrease in milk production, long time treatment cost and reproductive difficulties lead to the widespread financial loss of farmers. But the scarcity of literature on the epidemiology, vector and genetic characteristic of the virus in Bangladesh cause delay in diagnosis and reporting which make the situation become worst. Quarantine and mass vaccination are efficient tools to halt the epidemic.Item A case report on correction of upward patellar fixation of cattle by medial patellar desmotomy at Anowara thana, Chattogram(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, 2020-06) Nayan deb nath, Nayan debUpward fixation of the patella is one of the most common stifle joint functional abnormalities in cattle defined by the temporary or permanent dislocation of the patella from its normal position during locomotion. Although this disorder is not life threatening, it cause temporary impairment and discomfort, lowering the value of animals. A study was undertaken at Upazilla Veterinary Hospital in Anowara, Chattogram, from February to April 2021. This study looked at the effectiveness of the medial patellar ligament section technique as a surgical treatment for dorsal patellar fixation in cattle held in lateral recumbence. In this study period, there were found 5 animals suffering from upward patellar fixation. The ages of the animals ranged from 3 to 6 years. Females (80%) had a higher tendency than males (20%). Local breed (60%) cattle were more prone to cross breed (40%) cattle. All of the procedures were carried out using the blind method of medial patellar desmotomy. All of the animals recovered from surgery, demonstrating that the procedure used to treat dorsal patellar fixation in cattle was both effective and straightforward to implement.Item A Case Report on Enterotomy in a Cat(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Khulshi,Chattogram, 2023-11) Rahoman, Md. The case was recorded in the Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Centre (TTPHRC), Purbachal, Dhaka during an internship placement. A 6-months-old cross breed male cat weighing 2.8 kg was brought into the TTPHRC. The decision to enterotomy the cat was made by the owner to prevent obstruction and intestinal diseases. The enterotomy operation was performed under general anesthesia with following the standard surgical method. As a part of post-operative care systemic antibiotic, pain killer and antihistaminic were administered. In addition, it was recommended that an antibiotic ointment containing povidone iodine be used on the wound until complete healing. After the procedure, the owner was instructed to confine the animal's movement by keeping it indoors in a neat squeeze cage. The cat's rehabilitation went without any issues, and no complications were found.Item A case report on internal fixation of fracture of femur in cat by using intramedullary pinning(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, 2021-04) HASSAN, MD. MEHEDIThe study was conducted at Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Centre, Purbachal, Dhaka about the surgical management of internal fixation of femoral fracture of a cat using intramedullary pinning. Femoral fracture is one of the most common types of fracture encountered in the cat. A 2 years old cat was suggested for surgical correction based on history, clinical signs, and radio-graphical examination. The cat's femur was fractured as a result of jumping from a top place. Many advancements have been made in the field of small animal internal fracture fixation, including improved fixing procedures and a wider array of implants. For bone pinning and internal fixation, clinical and radiographic procedures have been established. After a successful surgery, the cat has regained weight-bearing capacity after one month, and serious complications are unlikely to arise throughout the bone healing process. The progress of healing had been monitored clinically and radiographically up to one month of the period.Item A Case Report on Lateral Flank Approach for Ovariohysterectomy of Cat(Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2020-09) Suvrodeb BarmanThe study was planned to perform ovariohysterectomy in cat through a lateral flank approach. One adult queen cat of age 2.5 year weighing 3 kg presented for ovariohysterectomy in this study. A small incision stab technique on left lateral flank was performed. Surgical approach was evaluated by recording extent of hemorrhage, ease of location and exteriorization of ovaries and uterus, duration of surgery, post-operative complications and time required for complete wound healing. The findings of the present study established that the technique of small incision stab approach at lateral flank for ovariohysterectomy is easy, free of complications, requires a shorter time and also less expensive.Item A case report on management of Urolithiasis associated with Chronic Kidney Disease in cat(Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2024) Nahar, SabikunA 5-year-old male domestic shorthair cat who was brought to Shahedul Alam Quadery Teaching Veterinary Hospital with signs of dysuria, hematuria, and decreased appetite. Depending upon the history and clinical examination the case was diagnosed as a lumpy skin disease (LSD) and accordingly therapy was given. For medical intervention, amoxicillin (Moxacil-vet @ 1ml/10 kg B.W.) intramuscularly for five successive days, chlorpheniramine maleate @ 0.2 mg/kg B.W. (Renacin @ 1ml/10kg B.W.) intramuscularly for five consecutive days, ketoprofen @ 3.3 mg/kg B.W. (Keto-A vet @ 1ml/33kg B.W.) subcutaneously for three days and ivermectin @0.2 mg/kg B.W. (Vermic@ 1ml/30 kg B.W.) subcutaneously once were given. The body temperature dropped after 48 hours and sustained feed intake. Povisep 10% sol. (Povidone-iodine 10% w/v) to clean the skin lesions. Animal response to the treatment and complete recovery was reported within 21 daysItem A Case Study on Enucleation of eye of a cat(Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2022-11) Farsa, FarhanaEnucleation is typically the treatment used when the eye needs to be removed to treat a severe infection or to lessen the chance that an eye injury would result in the development of a severe autoimmune illness (known as sympathetic ophthalmia). Depending on the state of the eye to be operated on evisceration, a less invasive surgery may be an option. Here, the surgery was lateral subconjunctival enucleation. A 3 month old male cat came to SAQTVH with severe eye injury. The case was referred to the surgery unit. After conducting physical examination, the clinical findings were- temperature 104.1°, anorexia and severe pain. Observing the condition, the surgeon decided to conduct surgery immediately. After surgery, antibiotic, anti-histaminic, topical antibiotic ointment was administrated as post-operative care. After 14 days, the patient was brought to remove the suture. The surgeon then conducted X- ray and the X- ray findings were completely fine.Item A CLINICAL CASE REPORT ON AURAL HEMATOMA IN A GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG(Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2024) Pervin, SadiaAn eight year old male German Shepherd dog with 32 kg body weight was brought to Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Center (TTPHRC), Purbachal, Dhaka, Bangladesh with a complain of soft swelling at the inner surface of the pinna with a history of violent shaking of the head and persistent left ear scratching. Physical examination findings revealed a hematoma in the left ear. Initially medicinal treatment was tried but didn’t succeed. A surgical operation was carried out to prevent recurrence. An S-shaped incision was made on the concave side of the pinna of the left ear. Hematoma and fibrin clots were removed. An ample number of sutures were given to minimize space for fluid accumulation. At follow-up, the dog developed myiasis due to improper management. This case emphasizes the significance of early detection and suitable care for aural hematomas in elderly dogs with surgery being the most successful long-term cure.Item A Clinical Investigation of Diseases and Disorders Encountered in the Upazilla Veterinary Hospital, Kaptai Rangamati Hill Tracts(Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2009-06) Bhusan Das, ShetuThis study describes a cumulative analysis of the disease pattern in livestock brought to the Upazilla Veterinary Hospital, Kaptai, Rangamati Hill Tracts, during the periods from January 2007 to January 2009. A general physical examination was performed initially, followed by a particular investigation. The uterus felt firmer and more extensive than usual when palpated the abdomen. Then ultrasound examination was performed, which revealed radio-opaque fluid-filled structures in the caudal area of the abdomen. History and the findings confirmed the cat was suffering from pyometra. Then the case was surgically managed by ovariohysterectomy under general anesthesia. Ovarian cysts were found during the surgery. The cat had an uneventful recovery.Item A clinical report submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirement for the Degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)(Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Khulshi, Chattogram-4225, Bangladesh, 2022-11) Akter Tonny, NasrinJaundice, also known as icterus, is characterized by a yellow discoloration of the sclera, unpigmented skin, and visible mucous membranes that results from a high bilirubin level in the blood and tissues. It is a clinical manifestation, not a disease, of an underlying problem. The present study was therefore aimed at learning how to manage a jaundice patient, the preferred method of diagnosis, and the necessary treatment. The study would cover the etiology, clinical symptoms, and utilization of ancillary aids in the diagnosis of pathologies that cause jaundice in cats. A 10-month-old cat with intermittent pyrexia, anorexia, lethargy, and bloody urine was brought to the TTPHRC (Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Center) in Dhaka. It also had a history of not getting deworming medicines for the previous 6 months. Elevations in two liver enzymes, SGPT (Serum Glutamic-Pyruvic Transaminase) and SGOT (Serum Glutamic-Oxaloacetic Transaminase), linked to hepatocellular damage or membrane leakage, were observed in the biochemistry profile, as was hyperbilirubinemia. An ultrasound examination and an x-ray revealed hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, and cystitis in the case of diagnostic imaging evaluation. Following the diagnosis of jaundice, 60 ml of Hartmann’s solution was administered intravenously to achieve rehydration. Again, the antibiotic amoxicillin trihydrate, an anti-hemorrhagic drug, and an anti-inflammatory drug had been used, and supportive care was also given. The entire course of treatment lasted seven days. However, the patient had died within 4 days of treatment.Item A comparative study on prevalence of various clinical diseases and disorders in Cattle and Goat with therapeutic management in two thana of Pabna district(2009-06) (Md. After taking all kinds of history and data for the last one year (2019) from the pig farm those data have been analyzed from several perspective and by software. There is some relation between disease and managemental problem. Some risk factors have also been identified. Most of the diseases can be prevented by appropriate managemental procedure but few of those are really tough to diagnose and treat. Vaccination and deworming are the two key factors to avoid most of the infectious and parasitic diseases in pig farm. By this study it has been tried to identify the major challenges in a pig farm and proper system of pig farming for the marginal pig farmer of Bangladesh. The result of the study is satisfactory. It has been found that the major problem in a pig farm is parasitic infection, major parasites found in the farm are Ascaris suum (63.8%), Strongyloides ransomni (16.1%), Trichuris suis (4.7%), Metastrongylus (3.4%) and Oesophagostomum (5.4%). Some nutritional deficiency is also common like anemia (70.5%), unthrifty appearance (9.8%), Poor reproduction (7.4%), Rough skin and coat (4.9%) and Excessive hair loss (7.4%) etc. Most common reproductive problem found in the farm is poor libido which is 57.8% because of obesity and old age. Chronic Coughing (28.6%), lung worm (43.7%), Pneumonia (16.8%), Swine influenza virus (10.9%) can be categorized as respiratory diseases in the pig farm. As other category form FMD (24%) is commonly seen in adult animal and rotaviral diarrhea (73.1%) in piglets. Pigs are more prone to diseases in summer and rainy season. Poor management and deficiency of common mineral in ration can sometime leads to vices like cannibalism (8.5%), tail biting (57.5%), ear biting (4.3%), aggressiveness (17%), fighting (12.8) etc. in pig farm.
