Item Design and Implementation of Transformer Protection Scheme Based on Micro PLC(City University, 2020) Khan, Md. Humayun Kabir; Islam, Md. ZiaulAn electrical power system consists of various components such as generators, switches, transmission cables, transformers, capacitor banks among other components. Within these, a transformer is a very valuable and needy device in a power transmission and distribution system and it needs to be protected from the fault that occurred in the power system. A protection scheme is presented in this paper, which can be used in transformer protection. The main intention of this proposed system is to design a micro- PLC-based system that checks the operating parameters of the transformer i.e., voltage, temperature, oil pressure and the quantity of current that is flowing through the transformer. The system is able to detect current above the normal operating level and isolate the power transformer from the distribution line. This isolation process is to ensure that the transformer is protected from any abundance current that can cause it to overheat consequently to be harmed. In addition, the designed system can isolate the transformer if the voltage, temperature, and pressure are higher than its normal operating value. Some of the tools used in this protection system include LDmicro- programming software to write the ladder logic diagram for the microcontroller. Proteus-simulation software has also been used to design the circuit diagram and the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) for its implementation on hardware.Item Comparison of Fault Injection and Property Based Software Security Testing Technique(2020) Saha, Trina; Hossain, Md. SafaetAbstract- Security means the safety and it measures what we take to in order to stay protected and safe. Still some years ago, we concerned security only for our households and office environment but now-a-days another stem of security is “software security” which contains the current interest. To address this problem various techniques are taking place. Security is considered as a figure of merit of software. A secured software can easily meet its business requirement. The main aim of this paper is to discuss about two empirical software security techniques- one is Fault injection based security testing & the another type is Property based security testing. Not only this, we have also represented a basic comparison between these two techniques. For the project purpose we have also developed two software for testing these two types of techniques through which we can clearly represent that how these two techniques work to secure a software from being attacked & these two software are performing the black box testing which is very unique to verify a software is vulnerable or not.Item Cancer Registry Importance in Bangladesh: A Review and A Mobile Application Based Solution(City University, 2020) Akter, Sharmin; Nayeem, Md. ImtiazIn recent times, cancer becomes the major health issue. Cancer registry is challenging but a part of modern health care that creates awareness globally. Time has come, when Bangladesh has to give supreme priority to make a smart system for cancer registration to collect and manage proper database of the number of cancer patient, survivor rate, death rate and chronic condition for future analysis. . This review has twofold goals, first is propose an effective solution through a mobile app for cancer registry and second is suggest a efficacious method for cancer registration by exploring the cancer registry methods are available in journal articles. The increasing number of smart mobile phone user is immensely helping us in this purpose. In this paper two types of methods are used for cancer registry, one is community clinic based registry approach another is hospital based registry approach. Community clinic is the unique innovation in Bangladesh health care system, and this community clinic based cancer registry is first time going to be implemented through this paper. Base on reviewing the features of apps and surveying on 100 of people including doctors, cancer patients and CHCP, we become able to propose an app of cancer registry. Apps were collected from August 2018 to March 2019 and data was analyzed in April 2019.Item A Study of Comparing Total Population of Bangladesh with Age- Structured Linear Sharpe-Lotka Model and Malthusian Model.(City University, 2020) Rahman, Sumaiya Bintea; Islam, Md. Shahidul; Noman, Md.Talal BinWe consider an age-structured linear continuous population model named Sharpe-Lotka model, incorporating an factor contributes to limiting effect which may be occur due to lack of resources. This factor depends on the whole population rather than on any specific age group. In our paper, we investigate the total population size of Malthusian model and Sharpe-Lotka model for some specific age group & compare our investigated solutions with the total population of Bangladesh by using numerical method “Newton’s backward interpolation formula”.Item Translation as Re-creation: Khaliquzzaman Elias and the Ethics of Literary Transformation(City University Journal, 2024-07) Mahbub, Professor Dr. Rahman MThis study examines the philosophy and practice of literary translation through the lens of Professor Khaliquzzaman Elias, one of Bangladesh’s most distinguished translators. Using an in-depth interview conducted by Razu Alauddin and reframed for scholarly analysis, the article situates Elias’s work within contemporary debates. The paper places Elias's writings in the broader context of authorship, digital ethics, postcolonial theory, and translation studies. According to Elias, translation is a creative act of reinterpretation that resists literalism and the intrusion of artificial intelligence into literature while balancing cultural fluency and faithfulness. The paper suggests that Elias's translation model is a crucial intervention in current discussions about authorship, translation ethics, and machine-generated creativity because it aligns his principles with theoretical frameworks like Skopos Theory. The study presents novel perspectives on postcolonial translation practice and promotes the notion that translation is an independent literary form that reflects intellectual depth, cultural sensitivity, and humanistic resistance rather than being a derivative.Item A Neocolonialist Take on Amitav Ghosh’s The Shadow Lines & E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India(City University Journal, 2024-07) Islam, TamannaThe article discusses the zealous idea of nationalism in A Passage to India and The Shadow Lines that can rewrite colonialism in a new mask. Thorough study has been done to analyze the ambivalent situations on the characters from the novels that have been through colonialism and partition. The researcher discusses the struggles of crossing the arbitrariness of borders and influence of cultural diversity in the light of the aforementioned novels from a neocolonialist view. Both of the novels depict the same aftermath of colonialism and struggle to identify themselves in the hazy idea of ‘nation’ which often ended up in homogenizing a heterogeneous community. Although, both of the novel is set in separate time zones- colonialism and after independence, the effect can be summed up from a neocolonialist perspective. That is why, infusing the idea of Edward Said´s orientalism, Fanon’s pitfalls of colonialism and Bhabha’s third space, the paper discusses how people carry the hegemonic idea of nationalism especially about the minorities in the society. The article is conducted using a qualitative research with textual analysis to support the argument of the study. It’s been found that the idea of nationalism- exclusion, othering and aggression, might create the spirit of independence but also lessens the tolerance. As a result, a neocolonial hybrid state emerges that often dehumanizes the minorities just how as some countries of the West treated the nonwhite people.Item Literary Representation of Social Death: Perspective of a poem written by Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah and W. H. Auden.(City University Journal, 2024-07) Jabin, FahmidaThis paper explores the literary representation of social death through the poetic works of Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah and W. H. Auden. Literature has a long history of reflecting social consciousness and a medium for expressing the evolving conditions of human identity. In the modern era—marked by materialism, individualism, and existential anxiety—both poets reflect a profound crisis of social existence. Through a close, qualitative analysis supported by critical reviews, scholarly articles, newspapers, and books, this study examines how abstract ideas such as success, identity, alienation, and modern values are encoded in their poetry. The paper traces the progression from the image of the modern self to themes of psychological estrangement, voluntary exile, and systemic marginalization. These recurring motifs collectively point to the sociological phenomenon of social death— a condition where individuals, though biologically alive, are rendered socially invisible or irrelevant. While “social death” originates as a sociological construct, this paper argues that Shahidullah and Auden articulate its essence metaphorically, revealing the disintegration of human connection in modern society. Their poetic representations serve not only as artistic expressions but as cultural critiques of dehumanization in contemporary life.Item Responsible Factors for Problems in Academic Writing: An Investigation on English Major BA Honors First Year Undergraduates(City University Journal, 2024-07) Ornab, Tabassum MahmudAcademic writing is the most practiced skill to assess students‟ performance at almost every level of education. And this skill is largely associated with students' linguistic proficiency, which poses a significant challenge for EFL learners. Despite the compulsory inclusion of English as a subject in the curriculum of primary and secondary education in Bangladesh, many undergraduates face difficulties in academic writing because of some influential factors. Moreover, writing in English is crucial for the academic success of English-major BA honors first-year undergraduates. This research specifically examines these problems in academic writing and the responsible factors. A mixed-method approach is used, which includes a survey questionnaire, written samples, and semi-structured interviews for data collection. The findings from data analysis inform pedagogical approaches and support mechanisms that can significantly enhance EFL learners‟ academic writing skills and contribute to their overall success in higher education.Item Proposal for a numerical definition of standard depths(School of Textiles and Design, Heriot-Watt University, Galashiels TD1 3HF, UK, 2006-09-25) Wardman, R H; Islam, S; Smith, JSurfaces of uniform visual depth were mapped in L*a*b* colour space, at six levels of depth, from visual assessments made by a panel of professional colourists employed in the dye manufacturing industry. By interpolation, the surfaces of uniform visual depth at depths corresponding to the average of the ISO standard depths were determined. The algorithms developed enable the determination of the L* value that a colour of any hue or chroma should have in order for it to correspond to one of the standard depthsItem SURVEY ON RICE BLAST DISEASE INCIDENCE IN MAJOR RICE GROWING AREAS OF BANGLADESH(South Asian Journal of Biological Research, 2021) Mahmud, Quazi Mostaque; Rahman, A.H.M. Asadur; Akanda, Abdul Mannan; Hossain, M. Mofazzal; Hossain, Md. MotaherA B S T R A C T Rice blast (Pyricularia oryzae Cavara) is one of the most devastating diseases that cause severe yield losses every year in Bangladesh. Eight rice-growing districts of Bangladesh, namely Dinajpur, Rangpur, Bogura, Natore, Meherpur, Rajbari, Mymensingh, and Jashore, were surveyed to estimate the incidence and severity of leaf and neck blast diseases of rice at vegetative and reproductive stages. The highest leaf and neck blast incidence of 28 and 11% was observed in Dinajpur, whereas it was the lowest in Rajbari and Jashore. The leaf blast severity ranged from 28% in Dinajpur to 2% in Rajbari and Jashore. The highest neck blast severity was recorded in Dinajpur, whereas the lowest was observed at Rajbari and Jashore. The study revealed that rice blast disease (leaf and neck blast diseases) is more prevalent in the northern regions of Bangladesh acts as a hot spot for the disease having the ideal predisposing conditions compared to southern regions.
