    Effects of light stimulion Desmodium Gyrans lateral leaflet movement Rhythms

    Rhythmic up - down movements of the lateral leaflets in the plant Desmodium gyrans (L.F.) DC. have been studied. Leaflet movements were recorded with a video-computer system, where the digital video signals from the CCD camera were processed in an ATARI 1040 ST computer using special software. The average period of the lateral leaflet movements at 240C was estimated to be 3.5 min. It is proposed, however, that the rhythmic movements of the lateral leaflets might be due to the movement of water across the motor cells, i.e. shrinking and expansion of motor cells, andproton pumps, membrane potential changes and ion transports are responsible for water uptake and loss in motor cells. Leaflet movements in the presence of light stimuli were then studied. It was found that the leaflet always moved towards the direction of the light, whether it was applied from the abaxial or from the adaxial part of the pulvinus. A strong effect was found in both instances, namely the reduced amplitude of the leaflet movement and thus a shortened period. When the abaxial part was exposed to light, the leaflet oscillated in a lower position, but when the adaxial part was illuminated, it oscillated in an upper Detailed instructions for typing your article are given in the following.     Multiparameter bifurcation and stability of solutions at a double eigenvalue

    This paper deals with some problems of bifurcation theory for general non-linear eigenvalue prob-lem for 2-dimensional parameter space. An explicit analysis of the bifurcation for 2-dimensional parameter space is done and the structure of the non-trivial solution branches of the bifurcation equation near origin is given. Since the study of the bifurcation problem is closely related to change in the qualitative behaviour of the systems, and to exchange of stability, analysis of the stability of the bifurcating solutions is done here. It is proved that the stability of the bifurcating solutions is de-termined, to the lowest non-vanishing order, by the eigenvalues of the Fréchet derivative of the re-duced bifurcation equation.

    Nonparametric bootstrapping for multiple logistic regression model using R

    The use of explanatory variables or covariates in a regression model is an important way to represent heterogeneity in a population. Again bootstrapping is rapidly becoming a popular tool to apply in a broad range of standard applications including multiple regression. The nonparametric bootstrap allows us to estimate the sampling distribution of a statistic empirically without making assumptions about the form of the population, and without deriving the sampling distribution explicitly. The main objective of this study to discuss the nonparametric bootstrapping procedure for multiple logistic regression model associated with Davidson and Hinkley's (1997) “boot” library in R.

    Mathmatical formulations of the basic diffusion equation: a discussion

    A discussion is made on the possible forms of mathematical formulations for the basic diffusion equation. The formulations have been derived from the law of motion. It is shown that the assumption of Stokes resistance leads to paradoxical conclusions in some specific cases of diffusion processes. It is argued that the expression for resistant forces in transport processes is empirical, and hence the form of the diffusion equation depends on the expression chosen in describing the resistant forces. Evidences are collected from literature in favor of both thermodynamic and Fickian formulation of the diffusion equation. It is concluded that ideal form of diffusion equation is absent, and the choice of the form of diffusion equation would depend on the specific circumstances being studied.

    E-commerce and wealth management service

    The aim of this paper is to identify wealth management services and the impact that e-commerce has had upon its range and delivery. The study reveals that e-commerce undoubtedly provides technological opportunities to expand services and introduce new and sometimes innovative tools and functions to enhance client relationships. However, it is found not to be a panacea, with improved client and relationship manager supplied information more critical to success. It also considers the impact of e-commerce on CRM where attempts at segmentation have met with mixed results and client needs are still to be effectively served as a whole.

    Organizational citizenship behavior: Its nature and antecedents

    Theory and research on Organizational Citizenship Behaviors (OCB) has presumed OCB as a set of desirable behaviors that contributes to the organizational effectiveness. So far OCB has been connoted as one of the antecedents of organizational performance. However, the antecedents of OCB are not thoroughly investigated. This study explores various existing definitions of OCB and then examines the dimensions of OCB. Based on the discussion on the dimensions of OCB, a number of antecedents were identified. When the antecedents are known, managers would be able to promote OCB among their employees for better performance.

    Global technological change impact on female textile and garment workers in Thailand

    Global technological change has significant impact on lower skilled female textile and garment workers in Thailand, as it brings new machines and manufacturing processes into the company. This study aims at identifying the factors of global technological change on female textile and garment workers in Thailand. It covers three impact areas such as, job security, job satisfaction and work relations. 10 variables were identified from job security, 36 from job satisfaction and 10 from work relations’ areas. Multivariate analysis such as, Factor Analysis and Multiple Regression was used to analyze the data. Factor Analysis has been performed to identify the factors of the technological change on the female workers. Using Multiple Regression analysis, the overall impact of the technological change on female textile and garment workers has been assessed. The results show that the impact factors are frustration, skill demands, downsizing, meaningful work, pride in job, supervision, benefits, bureaucracy, unclear work assignments, recognition, fairness in pay, workload, the change process, strikes, and personal control. Among these factors, frustration and downsizing are concerned with job security; benefits, bureaucracy are related to job satisfaction; and the work processes and personal control are concerned with work relations. These factors are significantly related to the overall impact of the technological change on Thai female textile and garment workers. Factors concerning job security, job satisfaction, work relations together are significantly related to the overall socioeconomic lives of female and garment workers in Thailand.
