Item Report on Power Line Communication System for Smart Metering Networks(East West University, 2023-01-18) Jahangir, Maimanah BintePower line communications (PLC) are estimated using a number of technical research papers and up-to-date journals. The purpose of this study is to pinpoint crucial power line communications components for indoor and outdoor applications as well as the usage of consumer communication during the global commercial development of numerous potential services. Considerations include potential services, bandwidth, service area, quality, dependability, and pricing. The generation side of the power grid has seen major change recently, with a rise in the usage of energy sources (renewable), which are less centralized and have more variable availability than traditional ones. Similar to how electric vehicle uptake would significantly alter consumption habits. Because of these changing circumstances, the power grid’s assets need to be better monitored and controlled, and smart metering is essential to achieving these goals. Power line communications (PLC) has emerged as a practical alternative in many situations, despite the fact that there are other communication technologies available for smart metering applications. Additionally, it offers a private communication network to the distribution system operator (DSO) and seamlessly integrates sensing and communication functions. This paper provides a brief explanation of PLC in the context of smart meters and the necessity of power line communication.Item Report on SCADA Communication System of Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC)(East West University, 2023-01-18) Rishad, Md. Abu SayemSCADA is an acronym that stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. It is a decentralized control system used extensively in power industry for monitoring and controlling plant equipment, processes as well as resources in industry such as energy, water/wastewater, petrochemical and manufacturing. To assist in the management and control of the country’s critical infrastructures SCADA were developed and implemented–complete with remote communications. SCADA communication plays a vital role in the functioning of this supervisory control system. Reliability of SCADA system is therefore much dependent on the SCADA communication sector. As such a communication technology should be used that the reliability of SCADA system does not need to be compromised. SCADA had been in use in Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) since 1998. It was then developed by ABB. Ever since its introduction the communication sector of DPDC hardly went any improvement. At present the SCADA Communication sector is facing many problems that are rendering the whole structure obsolete. The communication structure is based on microwave links and this paper intends to propose a new communication technology named Free Space optical Communication to enhance system reliability. Free Space Optics (FSO) or Optical Wireless, refers to the transmission of modulated visible or infrared (IR) beams through the air to obtain optical communications. Like fiber, Free Space Optics (FSO) uses lasers to transmit data, but instead of enclosing the data stream in a glass fiber, it is transmitted through the air. It is a secure, cost-effective alternative to other wireless connectivity options.Item Report RF Mesh System for Smart Metering(East West University, 2023-01-18) Nayem, Md Nazmul HouqeThis paper describes the RF mesh system design and ongoing project in DPDC for advance metering infrastructure and its performance. This system is based on Neighborhood Area Lan (LAN). Its operating band is 920-925 MHz and is based on the frequency hopping spread spectrum. The deployment scenario's geographic model serves as the foundation for the performance evaluation, which uses geographical routing and the appropriate models for radio transmission. It ensures accurate and error free billing. Further, we conclude that the RF mesh system supports us for smart metering and create transparency to customers and DPDC.Item Report GPRS System for Smart Metering Networks(East West University, 2023-01-18) Hossain, Md. MobashirMany Smart Grid installations rely on General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) for wireless communication in Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMI). In this paper i describe security functions available in GPRS, explaining authentication and encryption options, and evaluate how suitable it is for use in a Smart Grid environment. SCADA was created and implemented to aid in the management and control of the country's essential infrastructure, complete with remote communications. SCADA communication is critical to the operation of this supervisory control system. The reliability of the SCADA system is thus heavily reliant on the SCADA communication sector. As a result, communication technology should be employed so that the reliability of the SCADA system is not jeopardized. Since 1998. ABB went on to develop it. Since its inception, the DPDC's communication sector has seen little progress. At the moment, the SCADA Communication sector is plagued by numerous issues that are rendering the entire structure obsolete. Considerations include potential service, bandwidth, coverage area, quality, reliability, and cost. Electricity grids, with their more decentralized structure and unpredictable availability than their traditional counterparts, have undergone major changes on the generation side in recent years as the use of energy sources (renewables) increases. In the same way that the spread of electric vehicles will significantly change consumer behaviour. These new conditions require better monitoring and control of grid assets, and smart metering is essential to achieving both goals. Power line communication (PLC) has emerged as a viable alternative in many situations, but there are many communication technologies available for smart metering applications. In addition, it provides a private communications network for distribution system operators (DSOs) and seamlessly integrates sensors and communications capabilities. This intern paper briefly discusses PLCs as they relate to smart meters and the need for powerline communication in Bangladesh as a key component of digital Bangladesh.Item Solar and Wind Connected Hybrid Renewable Energy System for Small Scale Applications(East West University, 2023-01-18) Roy, Joya; Emon, Md. Masudur Rahman; Shishir, Abdullah SakibThis paper represents a miniature project on hybrid renewable system using solar and wind energy. As Bangladesh is the 8th most populous country in the world, so the demand of electricity is always at peak. Because of this disruption of electricity, houses-medical centers, primary schools in those affected areas suffer from a lot of problems due to lack of proper treatment and other basic needs. To minimize this problem, we came out with an innovative project- idea of building a miniature hybrid renewable energy system based on solar and wind energy. To build this project, we used Arduino as microcontroller chip and for simulating the system we used PROTEUS simulation model. We are also adding an alternative USB cable as back-up energy supplement for our project in case of either wind or solar is not available/broken or in case of any failure in the main system. We believe the combination of wind, solar and battery will be enough to fulfill the demand of electricity which we have shown in the miniature project.Item Modified DV-Hop Algorithm for Localization in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN)(East West University, 2023-01-18) Abdullah, Maliha Binte; Mahmud, SaifullahLocalization is an important aspect of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). A wireless sensor network consists of a large number of small, low-cost, low-power sensors with limited processing power that communicate with each other on an ad-hoc basis. The physical coordinates of the sensor nodes within the decision task WSN are called localization or positioning. A key component in today’s communication systems for estimating the origin of an event. B. Different location accuracy requirements for different applications, different localizations. Focusing on the latter, this post explores different measurement techniques and strategies for distance-based and non-distance-based localization. In addition, we discuss various location-based applications in which position estimation is performed. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) help us monitor our physical environment more closely. Localization is a major challenge in such networks, as the reported data is useless without locating the sensors reporting it. Anchor-based and anchor-free approaches, where the DV hop algorithm is an anchor-based approach. This document modifies the DV hop algorithm. A drawback of the DV hopping algorithm is that it does not work well with sparse topologies. The results show that the accuracy of the modified DV-hop algorithm is better than that of the DV-hop algorithm, and the modified DV-hop algorithm works even in sparse networks.
