Item RESPONSE OF RAPESEED TO THE MANAGEMENT OF SULPHUR AND WEEDS(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2011-06) HOSSAIN, MANIRAn experiment was conducted at the agronomic field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207 during the period from November, 2010 to February 2011 to find out the optimum r at e of s ul phur and a ppr opi a t e t i me of we e di ng for BARI Sharisha -14. The experiment was carried out with four levels of sulphur application matter weight, number of siliqua plant -1 , number of seeds siliqua -1 , number of seeds plant1, number of branches plant -1 , 1000-seed weight, seed yield plant -1 and biological yield. Maximum seed yield plant -1 was observed with 30 kg S/ha 0 1 2 2 -1 , number of siliqua plant -1 , number of seeds siliqua -1 , number of seeds plant -1 , 1000-seed weight were found to be highest with these three weeding. Plant height as well as dry matter accumulation were also found to be maximum with three weeding.. The increased seed yield plant -1 with three weeding 1 results. The highest seed yield as well as biological yield was found with the interaction of three weeding a n d 30 kg S/ha which was statistically identical with the interaction of two weeding a n d 30 kg S/ha . Maximum number branches plant -1 0 , number of siliqua plant , seeds siliqua and 100-seed weight was also found from the interaction of three weeding a nd 30 kg S/ha. Two weeding combined with 30 kg S/ha produced almost similar result. 3 -1Item EFFECT OF TRANSPLANTING DATE ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF INBRED AND HYBRID RICE VARIETIES IN T. MONIRUZZAMANItem INFLUENCE OF POTASSIUM AND SULFUR ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF POTATO DERIVED FROM TPS SEEDLING TUBER(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2011-06) ISLAM, MD. RAFIQULThe experiment was carried out at the research field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, during the period from 10 November 2010 to 10 March 2011 to investigate the effect of potassium and sulfur on morpho-physiological characters, yield attributes and yield of potato. The experiment comprised of four different doses of potassium (0, 117, 130, 43 kg ha -1 ) along with sulfur (0, 24, 29 and 34 kg ha ). The experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications. The growth parameters such as plant height, stems hill -1 , leaves hill -1 -1 , total dry mass (TDM) plant and TDM m -2 , yield attributes such as tubers hill -1 and single tuber weight and tuber yield and marketable yield were significantly influenced by potassium and sulfur. Results revealed that, number of leaves hill -1 , stems hill -1 , plant dry matter content, tuber dry matter content, tubers m -2 , seed yield, marketable yield significantly increased with increasing potassium levels, whereas, plant height decreased with increasing potassium level. On the other hand plant dry matter content, tuber dry matter content, stems hill , tubers m -2 , seed yield, marketable yield increased significantly with increasing sulfur level. While plant height, number of leaves hill -1 and tubers m -2 decreased with increasing sulfur level. Combined effect of potassium and sulfur reveled taht the highest number of tubers m -2 was achieved by 130 kg potassium ha -1 with 34 kg sulfur ha . But 130 kg potassium ha -1 with 29 kg sulfur ha -1 produced more 45-55 mm sized tuber than 130 kg potassium ha -1 with 34 kg sulfur ha -1 . Application of 130 kg potassium ha with 34 kg sulfur ha -1 produces more <28 mm sized tuber than that of 130 kg potassium ha with 34 kg sulfur ha -1 . Finally 130 kg potassium ha -1 with 29 kg sulfur ha -1 produced numerically highest yield but statistically similar with 130 kg potassium ha -1 -1 -1 -1 with 34 kg sulfur ha -1 . -1 -1Item EFFECT OF ORGANIC AND INORGANIC GROWTH REGULATORS ON GERMINATION AND VIGOUR OF DIFFERENT PULSE SEEDS(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2011-06) RHAMAN, MD. MIZANURFour separate pot experiments were carried out on four pulse crops in Rabi season during 2010 to 2011. The experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of GA lemon juice and tamarind leaf extract on germination and vigour of pulse seed (lentil, chickpea, grasspea and cowpea).The experiments were done with cultivar, BARI Masur- 4, BARI Chola-6, BARI Khesari-2 and BARI Felon-1 with three growth regulators: gibberellin, lemon juice and tamarind leaf extract. During Rabi season 2010 to 2011, three concentrations of gibberellins (10, 20 and 30 ppm ), three concentrations of lemon juice ( 2, 4 and 6 %), three concentrations of tamarind leaf extract (0.05%, 0.1% and 0.15%) with two soaking time duration ; six hours and twelve hours with control. In Rabi seasons, in case of lentil, plant length continued to increase till harvest of young seedlings. Gibberellin(GA 3 ) improve germination percentage of lentil, chickpea, grass pea and cowpea; Seedlings length ,dry matter and germination index of all crops; vigour index of all crops except grass pea, and speed of germination in lentil, chickpea and grass pea. Lemon juice enhanced germination percentage, seedling length, vigour index and germination index in cowpea. Tamarind leaf extract increased the germination percentage in lentil, chickpea, grass pea and cowpea; seedling length in grass pea; vigour index in lentil, chickpea and cowpea; speed of germination in lentil, chickpea and grass 3, pea. In comparison with plant growth regulators, length, weight, was found to be positively correlated and in most cases, relationships were significant.Item RESPONSE OF IRRIGATED WHEAT TO THE PLACEMENT METHODS OF PRILLED AND SUPER GRANULAR UREA(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2011-06) HASAN, MD. MAHAMODULA field experiment was carried out at the Agronomy Farm, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka during rabi season of 2010-2011 to study the effect of prilled urea and urea super granule on the growth and yield of wheat under irrigated condition. The experiment consisted of sixteen treatments as T =Prilled urea (PU) broadcasted@100 kg N ha -1 during sowing , T = PU placed in the side furrow@100kg N ha -1 during sowing, T 3 2 =PU placed between two rows@100kg N ha -1 during sowing, T =PU & seed in the same furrow@100kg N ha -1 during sowing, T 5 4 =Urea Super Granule (USG) at 5 cm depth as basal@75kg N ha -1 , T 6 =USG placed at 5 cm depth at 10 DAS@75kg N ha -1 , T =USG placed at 5 cm depth at 20 DAS@75kg N ha -1 , T 8 7 =USG placed at 5 cm depth at 30 DAS@75kg N ha -1 , T 9 =USG placed at 10 cm depth as basal@75kg N ha -1 , T =USG placed at 10 cm depth at 10 DAS@75kg N ha -1 , T 11 10 =USG placed at 10 cm depth at 20 DAS@75kg N ha -1 , T 12 =USG placed at 10 cm depth at 30 DAS@75 kg N ha , T 13 =USG placed at 15 cm depth as basal@75 kg N ha -1 , T =USG placed at 15 cm depth at 10 DAS@75kg N ha -1 , T 15 14 =USG placed at 15 cm depth at 20 DAS@75kg N ha -1 and T 16 =USG placed at 15 cm depth at 30 DAS@75 kg N ha -1 . Application of PU and USG as nitrogen fertilizer had significant positive effect on growth, yield and yield contributing characters of wheat. The tallest plant (97.73 cm), maximum effective tillers sprike -1 (6.67) and higher total dry matter (11.86 g plant ) were recorded in T 11 ( USG placed at 10 cm depth at 20 DAS@75 kg N ha ) than other treatments. This treatment also produced significantly higher grains spike (42.33), 1000-grains weight (40.11 g), grain yield (4.00 t ha -1 -1 ), straw yield (5.31 t ha ) and biological yield (9.31 t ha -1 ) followed by T 10 (3.80 t ha -1 ) treatment. The highest harvest index (45.45%) was obtained from T (USG placed at 5 cm depth 10 DAS@ 75 kg N ha -1 6 ) treatment. The use of USG was found more effective to minimize production cost as well as increase yield. Hence the rate of N @ 75 kg N ha in the -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 1 form of USG along with other fertilizer may be considered as a suitable management for obtaining higher yield of irrigated wheat.Item PERFORMANCE OF WHEAT GENOTYPES AT AEZ 28(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2011-06) AHMED, FOYSALThe experiment was conducted at the Agronomy field, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka, during the period from November 2010 to March 2011 to study the “Performance of some wheat genotypes at AEZ 28”. The experiment consisted of 15 treatments (genotypes of wheat). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block design with 3 replications. The 15 genotypes of wheat were BAW1059; BAW1064; CVD5 (BAW1111); CVD6 (BAW1114); AYT5 (BAW1135); AYT7 (BAW1137); AYT9 (BAW1139); AYT10 (BAW1140); AYT11 (BAW1141); BL3503; Bijoy; Prodip; Sourav; Shatabdi and Sufi. Manures and fertilizers were applied at recommended doses of wheat. Results showed that the highest plant height (103.40 cm) and maximum number of tillers plant -1 (9.00) were obtained with AYT9, BAW1139 and Sourav at harvest respectively. The highest dry weight plant (35.72 g), number of spike plant -1 (9.04), spike length (17.68 cm), number of spikelet spike (19.91) and number of grains spike -1 (56.83), 1000- grain weight (46.49 g), grain yield (4.29 t ha ), stover yield (6.64 t ha -1 ) and biological yield (10.90 t ha -1 ) were obtained from Shatabdi. But the highest harvest index (43.64) was observed in BL3503. -1 -1 -1Item WATER RELATIONS AND YIELD OF FOUR MUNGBEAN CULTIVARS UNDER DIFFERENT DATE OF SOWING(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2011-06) KARIM, MD. REZAULThe experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University farm, Dhaka during the kharif -1 season from March to June, 2010 to study the water relations and yield of four mungbean cultivars under different date of sowing. The treatment consisted of four mungbean varieties viz., V 1 = BARI mung- 4, V = BARI mung- 5, V 3 = BARI mung- 6, V = BU mung- 4, and three sowing date, viz., S 1 = 9 March, S 2 = 24 March, S 3 4 = 8 April. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Variety had significant influence on relative water content (RWC), exudation rate (ER); stem, leaf, root and total dry matter; pod length, pods per plant, seeds per pod, 1000seed weight, seed yield, stover yield, biological yield and harvest index. BARI mung- 4 showed the highest seed yield showing the highest value of yield parameters and harvest index, RWC and ER, whereas, BU mung-4 produced the lowest seed yield. Sowing date also influenced significantly the mentioned parameters. Mungbean sowing on 24 March produced the highest seed yield followed by the sowing on 9 March and 8 April by producing the highest value of yield parameters, biological yield, RWC and ER. Among the interactions, BARI mung-4 sowing on 24 March produced the highest seed yield. 2Item INTERCROPPING MAIZE WITH CHICKPEA, GRASS PEA, MUNGBEAN AND GROUNDNUT(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2011-06) SUMUN, MD. NAZMUL HASSANABSTRACT An experiment was conducted at the research field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from December, 2010 to May, 2011 to study the influence of intercropping system in maize with chickpea, Grass pea, Mungbean, and Groundnut. The trial was layed out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 3 replications. The experiment comprised of nine treatments viz, T = Sole maize, T 2 = Sole chickpea, T 3 = Sole Grass pea, T 4 = Sole Mungbean, T = Sole Groundnut, T 6 = Maize Paired row + 2 rows of chickpea, T = Maize Paired row + 2 rows of Grass pea, T 8 7 = Maize Paired row + 2 rows of Mungbean, T = Maize Paired row + 2 rows of Groundnut. The collected data were statistically analyzed and the means were adjudged by LSD at 5% level of significance. In case of maize the tallest plant, highest number of cob/plant, cob length, cob diameter and yield was recorded in treatment T (sole maize) where as the highest thousand grain weight was obtained from T 7 1 & T i.e. maize intercrop with Grass pea and Mungbean respectively. In intercropped plants though the highest yield and best yield contributing characters except 1000 seed weight were from sole crop shall the intercrop performed better in terms of economic contributing characters. Maize Paired row + 2 rows of Mungbean showed better relative yield of maize than other intercropping systems. All the intercropping systems showed higher net return than sole maize or sole other intercrop. The highest net return (Tk 84200 ha 8 ) was recorded from T 6 though higher cost was involved and was followed by T (Tk 79500 ha -1 ). The highest BCR (2.95) was obtained from T 6 followed by T (2.93).So in this study intercropping paired rows of maize + two rows of chickpea would agronomically feasible and economically profitable (i.e., maize equivalent yield, LER, relative yield, gross return, net return, BCR etc). 7 8 9 5 -1 (2.94) and T 1 8Item EFFECT OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF ORGANIC AND CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF TRANSPLANT AMAN RICE VARIETIES(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2011) RAZZAK, MD. ABDURAn experiment was conducted at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm, Dhaka during the period from June-December 2010 to study the effect of variety and integration of organic and chemical fertilizers on the yield and yield-contributing characters of Transplant aman rice varieties. The experimental treatments included (a) two T. aman rice varieties viz., BRRI dhan46 and Nizershail (b) nine levels of organic and chemical fertilizers viz., without fertilizer (control), recommended dose of chemical fertilizers, cowdung, compost, recommended dose of chemical fertilizers + cowdung, recommended dose of chemical fertilizers + compost, V2 of the recommended dose of chemical fertilizers + cowdung, ½ of the recommended dose of chemical fertilizers + compost, V2 of the recommended dose of chemical fertilizers + cowdung + compost. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replications by placing the variety in the main plots and fertilizers in the subplots. Significant effects on total tillers, effective tillers hilY', panicle length, filled grains panicle, I 000-grain weight, grain yield and straw yield were found by the application of fertilizers on the tested varieties. Significantly the highest grain yield was found with BRRI dhan46 using either recommended dose of chemical fertilizers ( 4.76 t ha4 ) or 1/2 of the recommended dose of chemical fertilizers + cowdung + compost (4.65 t haj.Item ALLELOPATHIC EFFECT OF DIFFERENT WEED RESIDUES TO CONTROL WEEDS IN AMAN RICE FIELD(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2011) MAHATO, SUSHANTA KUMARA field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy field, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), during July to December, 2010 with a view to find out allelopathic (eco-friendly concept) effect of different weed residues to control weeds in Aman rice field. The experimental treatments included three T-aman rice varieties viz. BRRI dhan46. Guti Swarna and Ranzit variety and five different allelopathic materials viz.Control, Lantena camera, Goose weed, Ban sharisha and Araich. Results showed that rice cultivars differed significantly in all growth and yield contributing characters and Ranzit produced highest grain yield (5.35 t h& 5. Among the treatments of allelopathic materials araich performed the best on all the parameter studied and gave highest grain yield (5.44 th&). Interaction showed significantly higher grain yield, was given by Ranzit with allelopathic materials araich (6.51 t h&5. The higher grain yield was attributed to the higher effective tillers hilF1(13.67). filled grains panicle'(256.00) and 1000- grain weight (23.83g).
