    A Comprehensive Review of the Current Progress of Chromium Removal Methods from Aqueous Solution

    Chromium (Cr) exists in aqueous solution as trivalent (Cr3+) and hexavalent (Cr6+) forms. Cr3+ is an essential trace element while Cr6+ is a dangerous and carcinogenic element, which is of great concern globally due to its extensive applications in various industrial processes such as textiles, manufacturing of inks, dyes, paints, and pigments, electroplating, stainless steel, leather, tanning, and wood preservation, among others. Cr3+ in wastewater can be transformed into Cr6+ when it enters the environment. Therefore, research on Cr remediation from water has attracted much attention recently. A number of methods such as adsorption, electrochemical treatment, physico-chemical methods, biological removal, and membrane filtration have been devised for efficient Cr removal from water. This review comprehensively demonstrated the Cr removal technologies in the literature to date. The advantages and disadvantages of Cr removal methods were also described. Future research directions are suggested and provide the application of adsorbents for Cr removal from waters.

Became member of Fair Wear Foundation and build their own sustainability team to look over Social, Structural and Environmental factors. In 2014, along with FWF, Stanley Stella introduced Anti-Harassment program to factories who are working for Stanley Stella what is another step to ensure the good & healthy workplace environment. In 2016, Stanley Stella has been awarded “Best Practice Award” by successfully changing the workplace environment & in 2017, factories have received a certificate for establishing and successfully maintaining the Workplace Education Program from FWF, Kingdom of Netherlands & UN (Gender Based Violation wing). The Anti-Harassment committee program has already shown its impact what is approved by many recognized bodies. In the Report, an independent survey has been done to get random worker’s reaction and to measure how effective and important the committee is to the factory and based on that the judgement has been made.

    An analysis of sustainability public procurement practices in district administration, Dhaka

    In Bangladesh, District Administration is the key mechanism direct responsible for the proper functioning of law enforcing and development of a district. District Administration works as a connecting bridge between local and central government. District Administration also plays an instrumental role in the field administration as well as the only representative in the central government. District Administration acts as a chief coordinator of the district level and implementing various policies and plans designed by the government. Every financial year finance division allocated fund to the Ministry of Public Administration and then the said ministry reallocated to the District Administration. After receiving budget through Ministry of Public Administration, our office procures mainly works and goods contracts following the supreme law of procurement i.e. PPA 2006, PPR, 2008 and other government instructions/order published official gazette properly. The activities of procurement mainly depends are revenue budget and development budget respectively. Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Land and other ministries are also allocating and sending budget through iBAS. The Deputy Commissioner, Dhaka is the HOPE and approving authority as well. Sustainable procurement performance depends on the effectively and efficiently achieve through the five rights of procurement i.e. right quality, right quantity, right time, right price & right place. Quality and quantity are the prerequisite in Government works & goods procurement through Technical Specification and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) respectively. If they don’t follow the rules, they must be punished for violating discipline and fall in audit objection as well. The objective of this report is to understand the sustainable procurements methods which are being practiced in DC office. Being a Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), this report helped me in service and personal life. I perceived how Direct Purchase Method (DPM), Request for Quotation Method and Open Tendering Method (OTM) are practiced in purchasing and how these methods are performed through government guideline (PPA, 2006 & PPR, 2008) properly. In this report, I came to know regarding the core activities of all the sections in District Administration, Dhaka. And I also learn about the annual budget allocation for each DC office and ensuring the expenditure procedures while making this report. Finally I recommend some issues for further improvement of the present scenario.

    Characterization of the sand of Brahmaputra river of Bangladesh

    The aim of this paper is to study on the mineralogy, morphology, magnetic property and composition of the sand of Brahmaputra River, Bangladesh. The sand has been collected from randomly selected seven places and separated by High Intensity Rolling Magnetic Separator into three fractions, viz. magnetic, para-magnetic and non-magnetic parts. The identifications of the valuable heavy minerals existing in these fractions have been performed. The valuable heavy minerals in the separated fractions have been counted under reflected and polarizing microscope and it is found that the magnetic fraction contains ilmenite, magnetite and garnet. The major grain size fraction of the magnetic fraction is 125 - 250 μm (57.18%). Zircon, rutile, xenotime, monazite, sillimanite etc. have been counted in other two fractions. X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Isodynamic Separator have been applied for mineral assessment and to quantify the relative proportion of mineral species.

    Democracy in Bangladesh: Role of Student Politics (1972-2002)

    This thesis explores present state of student politics and its relationship with democracy. How students are getting involved in student politics? What impact they have upon democracy of the country? What are the problems and future of student politics in Bangladesh? This study demonstrates historical approaches to democracy and struggle for democracy over the past. Students played a significant role in bringing out qualitative change alone with some negative roles, such as unrest on campuses, closure of institutions and session jam. Student's activities were catalyst, to some extent, to ensure Bangladesh to journey towards democracy. This study has been incorporated with data from various newspapers and magazines along with respondent's opinions form the survey carried out. The study has employed primary and secondary sources of data. The data have been included on the basis of relevance. Comparative evaluation, logical argument, critical reasoning and rational judgment have been used in this dissertation. This thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter encompasses introduction, discussion, definition of key terms, justification of the research, objectives of the study and methodology. A historical overview of democracy from British colonial rule to modern times (up to 2002) has been described in chapter 2. Chapter 3 encloses a historical sum-up of student politics in Bangladesh. Chapter 4 traces the causes of involvement of students in political activities with comparative analysis. Chapter-5 shows respondents· opinion concerning present trends of student politics. The concluding chapter 6 reinforces summary of the study, findings, offers recommendations for policy makers and some guidelines of future research in which future researches can be done.

    E-Commerce in Bangladesh: status, potential and constraints

    The Internet has opened up a new horizon for trade and commerce, namely electronic commerce (e-commerce). E-commerce entails the use of the Internet in the marketing, identification, payment and delivery of goods and services. This paper highlights the status, statutes, potential and constraints to e-commerce development in Bangladesh. Both the statutory laws as well as the challenges in implementing them are discussed. Major legal, regulatory and institutional constraints to e-commerce are identified. The paper also lists specific policy changes aimed at bringing improvements to the legal and regulatory environment affecting e-commerce. E-commerce is the buying and selling processes supported by electronic means, primarily the internet. It enables new forms of business, as well as new ways of doing business. Many Bangladeshi companies currently distribute their images through the Internet to clients all over the world, but the monetary transactions take place through conventional means. Despite having extensive advantages of doing business through E-Commerce people in our country are reluctant to conduct business in electronic form due to lack of some crucial factors . To avail the sky high opportunity of E-Commerce we are engaged to identify the causes which are hindering our success of E-Commerce. To do so I prepared problem statement this encompasses broad objective and specific objectives. From the specific objective I developed my research hypothesis which will be tested further through questionnaire.

    Empowerment of Women in Rural Bangladesh : A Study of Two Villages in Jhenaidah District

    This study entitled, "Empowerment of Women in Rural Bangladesh: A Study of Two Villages in Jhenaidah District" was conducted with the major objective to identify the nature of empowerment of women in a rural area of Bangladesh. In the present research, empowerment of women in rural Bangladesh means right to take decision in several aspects namely purchasing activities, visit to natal home, receiving health care, to be pregnant, participate in the village arbitration (salish),_ decision making in and outside the family etc. The analysis of this study is based mainly on data obtained from the 130 working women from two villages under Moheshpur Upazila in Jhenaidah district, Bangladesh. The data of present research suggests that most of the females have less right to take decision in the rural areas. Females’ ownership of land property is extremely limited. They cannot even decide to cast vote by their own. In most cases they do not posses political ideology of their own. Majority of the rural women have less opportunity to select contraceptives and majority of them are found to have no right in case of pregnancy. In most cases they are forced to conceive. Empowerment of women has been measured on the basis of education, credit, monthly income and ownership of land property etc. Barriers of empowerment have also been examined in this research. It was found that traditional economic system, religious beliefs, gender-biased socialization etc. work as barriers of empowerment in the rural areas of Bangladesh. In the light of our analysis, we would recommend that the processes we observed have important implication, both for theory and policy. It wiII also help policy-makers and program administrators in adopting measures to readjust the program strategy and implementation procedures for empowering women in rural areas.

    Geo-location Based Search Tool for Tweets

    Today social media is a great resource for public thoughts. But there is a lack of a tools that can dynamically grab tweets or posts from different geo-locations. Even twitter doesn’t have an option where we can find tweets by map based geo-location. So there is a need of a search tool that can search posts from any geo-location s along with some filters like keyword, hashtags, radious of area, popularity etc. Twitter is one of the most popular social media. In this project i search tweets from twitter applying some dynamic filtering and also map for geo-location selection and throw the first hundred tweets for further use. Initially the posts are shown onpage and any user can further use the posts for various works like saving in a database, using for other websites or analize tweets. In web development world, tools are one of the most powerful part of creative works. This dynamic search tool will be a big help for the developers who wants to work with twitter data and want geo-location based tweets and can also give users the opportunity to select any geo-location along with hashtags, keywords an radious.

    Impact of Strain on the Performance of InGaN-based Multij unction Solar Cell

    Strain issue and its impact on the performance of InGaN-based multijunction solar cell (MJSC) is addressed for the first time in the present research work. The route of strain in MJSC is identified to be due to the change in lattice constants in different layers of subcell grown epitaxially with bandgap stepping. Using multi-layered strain model, the state of strain and its magnitude is determined for three kinds of MJSC structures named as MJSC- 1, MJSC-2 and MJSC-3. The results are expressed in terms of subcell thickness 80nm, lOOnm and 120nm and number of subcells 3, 5 and 7. It is found that the magnitude of MJSC position-dependent strain is strongly dependent on the subcell thickness and decreases with increasing the layer thickness. Further, the position-dependent strain increases with increasing the number of subcells. With the combination of MJSC position-dependent strain and deformation potentials, the strain-induced energy bandgap modification is determined under tensile strain condition. Finally, including the strain effect the efficiencies of different MJSC structures are evaluated and found to be lower with that of reported without taking into account of strain. The detraction of efficiency is identified to be due to the open circuit voltage which decreases under tensile strain condition. Among the MJSC structures studied here, MJSC-3 with 7-layers is less efficient and it's efficiency decreases upto 3.01% when strain effect is taken into consideration.

    Study on Different Types of Washing Defect on Denim Garments

    The paper is on “Study on Different Types of Washing Defect on Denim Garments”. Here 100% cotton denim fabrics were selected to carry out the experiment. Different dry process like Destroy, Tagging, Whiskering, Resin, 3D Wrinkle, Hand Scrapping, Grinding, White-Paste, PP-Spray used. Different wet process like Bleach Wash, Enzyme Wash, Pigment Wash, Normal Wash or Rinse Wash, Stone Enzyme Wash, Silicon Wash, Caustic Wash, Stone Wash and Acid wash used. Garments washing is getting used as a completely unique process to switch the looks, to impart worn-out look and to enhance the comfort ability of the clothes. But different washing are getting to express different defect on denim garments. Finding out the various defect of denim for various process is the major part of that research.

    Study on Physico-Chemical Properties of Rain Water, Ground Water and Pond Water in KUET Premises

    Six samples of pond water, four samples of rain water and four samples of ground water were collected from the KUET premises. The sampling of pond water has been made during the period Nobember, 2013 to April 2014, while the rain water samples were collected during the late rainfall in the month of September. The rain samples were mounted 1.5 meters above the ground to avoid rain splash as recommended Pond water samples were collected by grab-sampling method. All sample's were filtered and preserved at 200 C. Some water parameters such as Alkalinity, Hardness, TDS, Arsenic, pH, Turbidity, Conductivity & Salinity were measured. Four tube well water samples were collected from different location of KUET residential area. The pH of tube well water ranged from a minimum of 7.79 to a maximum of 8.2 of TW3 (Tube well water, collected from building no 12) and 1W1 (Tube well water, School gate KUET) respectively. Similarly the variation of pH of pond water ranged from a minimum of 8.40 to a maximum of 8.87 of PWL1 (Pond water lower Position, Rokaya hail) and in rain water the maximum value was 6.77 of RWJ1 (Rain water from jessore urban) and the minimum value was 6.34 of RWC (Rain water collected from Chittagong) respectively. The values of conductivity for all tube well water were found to be greater than those of pond water and rain water. In present observations the conductivity for tube well water ranges from 1021 to 1598 ts/cm, for pond water ranges 324 to 732 p.s/cm and for rain water ranges from 13 to 80 J.ls/cm. It indicates that the tube well water contain larger quantity of dissolved mineral salts. In case of pond water, the conductivity is also significantly change during winter season and rainy season. The total dissolved solids (TDS) of tube-well water ranged from a minimum of 551 rng!L to a maximum of 887 mg/L of TW1 (Tube-well, School gate) and TW4 (Tube well water,collected from building no 19) respectively. Similarly the variation ctotal dissolved solids of pond water ranged from a minimum of 175 mg/L to a maximum of 399 mg/L of PWL 1 (Pond water, lower Position Rokaya hail) and PWL2 (Pond water, lower Position power plant side pond) and for rain water ranged from a minimum of 6 mg/L to a maximum of 40 mg/L of RWC (Rain Water, Collected from Chittagong) and R\VK (Rain Water, Collected from Khulna) respectively. This high values of TDS (Total dissolved solids) specially in Tube well water are mainly due to carbonates, bicarbonates, chlorides, phosphates and nitrates of calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and manganese. The variation in total alkalinity of tube-well water ranged from a minimum of 496.66 mg/L to a maximum of 508.33mg!L of TW2 (Tube well water, collected from building no 5) and TW3 (Tube well water, collected from building no 12) respectively . Similar variation in total alkalinity of pond water ranged from a minimum of 83.33 mg/L to a maximum of 131.66 mg/L of PWL1 (Pond water, lower Position Rokaya hail) and PWU3 (Pond water, collected from upper Position Khan Jahari Ali Hall) respectivcly. Tube-well water samples have found the iron content and the results varied from 16.78 27.97 ppm. No tube-well was found having the iron content within the maximum permissible limit of 1.0 ppm. Lead and cadmium concentration in the rain water was found below the detectable limit. Arsenic was investigated to all tube well water and found below 0.02 ppm that is within acceptable limit.
