Item COMPARATIVE EFFICACY OF PROBIOTIC & PREBIOTIC UPON GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND ENTERIC DISEASE IN BROILER(HAJEE MOHAMMOD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR, 2018-06) RASHID, MD. MAMUNUR; Dr. Md. Fazlul HoqueCommercial poultry production is ranked among the highest source of animal protein in the world. Microbial infections caused by bacteria and parasites particularly Eimeria has continued to challenge the poultry industry. Antibiotic Growth Promoters (AGP) have been traditionally used to counter microbial infections in poultry. But due to public health concerns, the use of AGP in poultry is either restricted or out rightly banned in several countries. Hence, this review is aimed at highlighting alternative feed supplements that can enhance performance and protect the chickens from microbial infections. The study found that dietary supplements containing probiotic, prebiotic and enzymes are able to enhance performance while protecting the chickens from microbial infection. The study was conducted to evaluate the comparative efficacy of probiotic & prebiotic upon growth performance & enteric disease of broiler chickens. The study is conducted at a trial broiler farm in Gazipur districts of Bangladesh for 30 days which was started on the last week of November, 2017 & extended upto the last week of December,2017.Birds (n=450) were randomly and equally distributed into Six groups (Group A ¹ & A ² , B ¹ & B ² , C ¹ & C ² ) Group A for Probiotic, B for Prebiotic & C for Control and fed on a diet containing Probiotic & Prebiotic 0.5 kg/MT feed respectively for 4 weeks. The body weight (1772.7±56.89) was significantly increased in the treatment groups fed with probiotics diet from 1st days to 30th days old, then the birds fed with prebiotic (1625±35.80). Weight (1394±62.60) was also significantly decreased among the control groups. . A total of 19 chicks died from Group C ¹ (Control group) and 11 Chicks at Group C ² . Total 20% mortality found in control group. Only two birds died in Group B. In Group A there was no visible morbidity and mortality. The birds which were feed with saltose plus have the lowest FCR (1.34) than the broilers fed with agrimos (1.46) and basal diet (1.67).The study suggests that, the efficacy of probiotic is much stronger than prebiotic but both of these are very helpful for prevention of enteric disease & enhancing the growth of broiler chicken. Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp, Clostridium perfringens were the major enteric disease agents found in of the broiler chicken.Item DEVELOPMENT OF HEALTHY SEED PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY OF RADISH (RAPHANUS SATIVUS L.)(HAJEE MOHAMMOD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR, 2008-05) RASHID, MD. MAMUNUR; Professor Dr. Ismail HossainRadish (Raphanus sativus L. var. Tasaki Mula) belonging to the family Cruciferae, the high yielding tropical annual type, developed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, was used in the present investigations. In total, 27 seed samples were randomly collected from 27 farmers comprising nine farmers from each of three upzillas viz. Thakurgaon sadar, Birgonj and Kaharol of Dinajpur district for testing their quality and health status. Laboratory studies revealed that all the seed samples were infected with Alternaria at different range of infection (0.5-25.4%), Alternaria brassicae was recorded as the dominant pathogen, where A. brassicicola wok alternata were found minor. The efficacies of four seed treating fungicides (Iprodione, Mancozeb, Carbendazim and Vitavax-200) and one bio-control means (BAU-Biofungicide) were tested for their performance of raising stickling in seed beds. Among the chemicals, Mancozeb was found superior to other fungicides in terms of increasing the field emergence and stickling stand by 53.16% and 65.38%, respectively and lowering post emergence death by 58.91% over non-treated control. BAU-Biofungicide was found statistically at par with Mancozeb where the field emergence and stickling stand were increased by 40.65% and 50.59%, respectively over non-treated control with a decrease of post emergence death by 47.39%. Pathogenicity studies in pots showed that Alternaria brassicae, A. brassicicola and A. alternata were pathogenic to radish plants. But A. brassicae was found as major and_A. brassicicola and A. alternata were minor pathogens. In field studies on foliar spray’ Iprodione (0.25%) followed by Mancozeb (0.3%) provided maximum control of Alternaria blight and increased seed yield. The results in second cropping Season (2005-2006), 10 December (early) transplanting with three sprays of Iprodione resulted lowest leaf area diseased, whereas plants in 25 December (normal) transplanting had the lower pod area diseased. In third cropping season (2006-2007), 25 October transplantation with BAU-Biofungicide (2.0%) and Iprodione (0.25%) foliar application showed significant effect in reducing Alternaria blight and increased seed yield by 120.45% and 97.73%, respectively over non-sprayed control. Bio-Biofungicide ranked second in reducing the disease, but ranked first in increasing seed yield. The cost benefit analysis of management practices for radish seed crop during 2005-2006 revealed that stickling transplanting in 25 December (normal) with two sprays of IprSdione (0.25%) yielded the highest return (BCR 3.27), whereas negative result (BCR -0.89) has been estimated in case of non-sprayed control plots in late transplanting (10 January). But cost benefit analysis of cropping season 2006- 2007 revealed that BAU-Biofungicide (2.0%) six sprays yielded the highest return (BCR 4.41) followed by six sprays of Iprddione (BCR 3.90). Out of the three different storage conditions (dehumidified, BADC storage and farmers house) and four different containers (metal, glass bottle, polythene bag and plastic bottle), maximum germination (95.25%) with lowest (3.00%) infection was recorded in dehumidified conditions in metal container, while lowest germination (71.25%) with highest (6.25%) infection was obtained in case of farmers conditions of plastic bottle. There was increase in starch, reducing sugar, non-reducing sugar and ash in the diseased seed as compared to healthy looking seed but crude protein and crude lipid were decreased in diseased seed as compared to healthy looking seed. Sugar was higher in Alternaria infected seed than the healthy looking seeds of radish variety cv. Tasaki Mula. Finally, it may be concluded that Integration of early transplanting (25 October) with foliar sprays of BAU-Biofungicide (2.0%) was found best for eco-friendly management of Alternaria blight of radish seed crop with significantly higher seed yield.Item EFFECT OF BAU-BIOFUNGICIDE AND SOME PLANT EXTRACTS AGAINST ROOT-KNOT (Meloidogyne javanica) OF CHILLI(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2008-12) RASHID, MD. MAMUNUR; Prof. Dr. Ismail HossainFive treatments viz. BAU-Biofungicide (7richoderma spp.), Kharazora (Teinostachynum griffithii), Upotlangra (Aschyranthus aspera) and Satodron (Leucas aspera) along with a control were tested against root-knot of Chilli caused by Meloidogyne javanica. Among the treatments, BAU-Biofungicide and satodron leaf extract gave superior result as it had increased shoot and root length, fresh weight of shoot and root as well as number of fruit and fruit weight correspondingly with the lowest galling incidence in Chilli. Better effect on plant growth characters and yield with lower galling incidence and development of the nematode was observed with Kharazora and Upotlangra leaf extract compared to control. Negative correlations between gall numbers with shoot and root length, shoot and root weight as well as number of fruit and fruit weight under different treatments indicated the superior effect of the treatments as envisaged with lower galling and the suppressive activities of the nematode.Item EFFECT OF SALT WATER ON GROWTH, YIELD, AND QUALITY OF HYDROPONICALLY GROWN TOMATO(DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE, 2021) RASHID, MD. MAMUNURTomatoes grow faster in hydroponics than they do in soil. Therefore a pot experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from September-2019 to February-2020, to investigate the effect of salt water on growth, yield, and quality of hydroponically grown tomatoes. The experiment consisted of two factors, and followed completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications. Factor A: Tomato variety denoted as V: V 1 = BARI tomato-8, V 2 = BARI tomato-9, V = BARI tomato-10, and Factor B: Salt water denoted as S: S 0 = 0 ml L -1 3 + standard solution, S = 0.5 ml L -1 + standard solution, S 2 = 0.75 ml L -1 + standard solution and S + standard solution. Experimental result revealed that in among different varieties, cultivation of BARI tomato-8 (V ) in hydroponic system, had the highest number of flower clusters plant -1 1 (13.17), fruits cluster plant -1 (4.51), fruits plant -1 (50.00), fruit polar length (3.90 cm), fruit radial length (3.68 cm), individual fruit fresh weight (45.64 g), fruit dry weight (2.59 g) yield plant -1 (4.13 kg), volume (195.0 cc) and pH value (4.41). In case of different concentration of salt water application the highest yield plant (4.19 kg) was recorded in S 0 (0 NaCl ml L -1 + standard solution) treatment. In case of combination, BARI tomato-8 (V 1 1 ) along with (S 0 3 = 1 ml L ) no salt water application (0 NaCl ml L + standard solution) affected plant growth, yield and quality parameters, leading to the maximum plant yield (4.33 kg) than compared to other treatment combination. Therefore, it was concluded that the BARI toamto-8 variety in conjunction with non-salt water concentrations outperformed other treatment combinations for achieving higher yield and quality tomato production in a hydroponic cultivation system.Item EVALUATING SEEDLING TRANSPLANTATION OF SAU WHITE MAIZE-3 UNDER VARYING SOIL MOISTURE AND SEEDLING LENGTHS(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2022) RASHID, MD. MAMUNURThe experiment was conducted at the central Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher- e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Bangladesh to evaluate seedling transplantation of two SAU white maize-3 during the period from November- 2021 to March- 2022 under varying seedling length and soil moisture regime. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. Eleven treatment combinations, viz. SSWLC = shorter seedlings waterlogged condition; SSPC = shorter seedlings transplanting at puddled condition; SS-SC = shorter seedlings transplanting at saturated condition; SSFc = shorter seedlings transplanting at field capacity condition; SSFcFw = shorter seedlings transplanting at field capacity by watering; SSDS = shorter seedlings at direct sowing; LSWLC = longer seedlings waterlogged condition; LSPC = longer seedlings transplanting at puddled condition; LS-SC = longer seedlings transplantation at saturated condition; LSFc = longer seedlings transplanting at field capacity condition; LSFcFw = longer seedlings transplanting at field capacity by watering were included in this study. Results indicated that seedling transplanting, and soil moisture had significant effect on growth, yield and yield contributing characters of SAU white maize 3. In the case of maximum value of growth were observed in LSFcFw treatment ( Longer seedlings transplanting at field capacity by watering ) compared to other treatments. In case of yield attributes, the maximum grain yield (11.76 t ha ), stover yield (10.60 t ha -1 ) and biological yield (22.36 t ha ii -1 ) were observed in LSFcFw treatment ( longer seedlings transplanting at Field capacity by watering ) compared to other treatments and harvest index (52.59%) was recorded from the treatment LSFcFw which was identically similar with all other treatments. Thus, for the cultivation of “SAU white maize 3 along with LSFcFw treatment ( longer seedlings transplanting at field capacity by watering ) can be used as recommended treatment for the production of highest grain yield in the AEZ 28 (Agro-ecological zone) soils of Bangladesh.Item OCCURENCE AND INCIDENCE OF MAJOR POTATO VIRUSES IN BANGLADESH AND THEIR DETECTION THROUGH ELISA TEST(Department of Plant Pathology, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, 2017-12) RASHID, MD. MAMUNURThis study was conducted to reveal the incidence of major potato viruses collected from the main growing field of selected district in Bangladesh. Incidence of major potato viruses in eight major potato growing areas of Bangladesh, viz. Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Bogra, Chapainawabgonj, Pabna and Munshiganj were investigated in field samples. Overall, three upazilla (sub-districts) from each district (which were at least 20 km apart) were selected for samples collection and disease incidence monitoring. A total of 240 samples were collected on the basis of virus and viral like symptoms. Collected samples were stored at 4 0 C and analyzed at Potato Research Centre, BARI, Debigonj, Panchogorh and in Molecular Plant Virology lab, Central Research Laboratory, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka. Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) tests revealed that Potato leaf roll virus (PLRV) was most predominant virus followed by Potato virus Y (PVY) and Potato virus X (PVX). During the year 2015-16, the average incidence of potato virus diseases in eight districts was about 48%. Single, double and triple, infections were 33.0, 47.3 and 2.0% respectively. The presence of the virus in the field of the main growing areas, as this study reported, is an alarming and need action to prevent spreading. This result also helps in taking management approaches for controlling viral disease in Bangladesh.Item OKRA PRODUCTION IN THE FISH POND THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF GIBBERELLIC ACID AND VERMICOMPOST(DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE, 2020) RASHID, MD. MAMUNURThe experiment was conducted in the fish pond through determine the effect of gibberellic acid and vermicompost on okra production during July to October 2019 at the fish pond near Horticulture Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. The experiment was consisted of two factors; Factor A: GA3viz. (i) Go; 0 ppm GA3 (control) and (ii) GI; 100 ppm GA3 and Factor B: Vermicompost viz. (i) Yo; 0% vermicompost + 90% coco peat + 10% broken bricks + dissolved nutrients of fish pond water (control), (ii) VI; 20% vermicompost +70% coco peat + 10% broken bricks + dissolved nutrients of fish pond water and (iii) V2; 40%vermicompost + 50% coco peat + 10% broken bricks + dissolved nutrients of fish pond water. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD). In terms of GA3 application, the highest fruit yield (405.66"g plant") was found from GI whereas the lowest fruit yield (336.03 g plant") was found from Go. Regarding vermicompost, V2 showed higher growth and yield attributes which resulted the highest fruit yield (421.00 g plant") whereas the lowest fruit yield (303.80 g plant") was found from Yo. Considering interaction effect, GJV2 showed highest fruit yield (470.10 g plant") whereas the lowest fruit yield (290.60 g plant") was found from GoVo. So, the treatment combination of GIV2 can be treated as the best among all the treatment combinations.Item PERFORMANCE OF GROUNDNUT UNDER DIFFERENT PLANT POPULATION AND WEED MANAGEMENT(DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, 2014-06) RASHID, MD. MAMUNURAn experiment was conducted at the Agronomy field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during November 2013 to April 2014 to study the effect of row spacing and weed management on the performance of groundnut (cv. BARI Chinabadum-8). The experiment comprised of two factors viz., (i) plant spacing and (ii) weed management with three levels of plant spacing (S1 = 20 cm × 15 cm, S2 = 30 cm × 15 cm, S3 = 40 cm × 15 cm ) and five levels of weeding treatments (W0= No weeding, W1= Hand weeding at 20 DAS, W2 = Hand weeding at 20 and 45 DAS, W3= Pre emergence herbicide, Sunup 480 SL spraying after land preparation, W4 = Post emergence herbicide, Release 9 EC spraying at 20 DAS . Results revealed that plant spacing with 30 cm × 15 cm stand superior than other in respect of plant height ( 33.67 cm) above ground dry matter weight plant-1 (30.35 g), kernel pod-1 (1.63), pods plant-1 (14.87), 1000-seeds weight (455.13 g), shelling % (67.80), pod yield (1.78 t ha-1), stover yield (3.38 t ha-1), biological yield ( 4.86 t ha-1) and harvest index (35.91 %) respectively while maximum number of branches plant-1 (8.27) and leaves plant-1 (85.95) were found in 40 cm × 15 cm spacing at harvest. Among 5 weed management practices, the highest plant height (38.14 cm), branches plant-1 (9.95), leaves plant-1 (111.10), dry matter content plant-1 (40.46 g), kernel pod-1 (1.75), pods plant-1 (19.05), 1000-seeds weight (481.22 g), shelling % (71.11), pod yield (2.21 t ha-1), stover yield (3.47 t ha-1), Biological yield (5.69 t ha-1), and harvest index (38.85 %) were obtained by 2 hand weeding management practice at harvest. In interaction, the maximum plant height (39.40 cm), dry matter content plant-1 (44.71g), branches plant-1 (11.00), leaves plant-1 (120.17), kernel pod-1 (1.77), pods plant-1 (21.14 ), 1000-seeds weight ( 495.33g ), shelling % (72.21), pod yield ( 2.48 t ha-1 ), stover yield (3.86 t ha-1), biological yield (6.02 t ha-1) and harvest index ( 41.11%) were induced with 30 cm × 15 cm row spacing followed by 2 hand weeding at harvest.
