Item EFFECT OF ORGANIC MANURES AND NITROGEN ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF BRINJAL (Solan maongma L)(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2006) RAHMAN, MD. MIJANURBrinjal (Solanum melongena L.) is one of the most important vegetable crops in terms of both acreage and production in Bangladesh and widely cultivated throughout the country. The experiment was carried out during the period from March to October 2006 at Sher-c-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka Lo find out the effect of organic manures and different levels of nitrogen on the growth and yield of brinjal. There were three nitrogen levels, No (control): No nitrogen, N1: 100 kg nitrogen/ha and N2: 150 kg nitrogen/ha and three different treatments of manures; Mo (Control): No manure, M I 0 ton cowdung /ha and M2: 3 ton poultry litter/ha. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Increasing the dose or nitrogen increased the plant height, number of leaves, days Lo first flowering, number of flower, number of fruit, length and diameter or fruit, weight or x 1: individual fruit, total yield of fruit per plant and number of fruit per plant. Plan! height (45.18 cm), number of leaves (93.0), length ( 13.70) and diameter of fruit (4.0), number of fruit per plant ( 17.8), weight of individual fruit (88.92 g) and total weight of fruit per plant (1602. I g) was the highest in M1• M1 gave the highest yield than M2 and Mo (control). The combined effect or M1 and N~ produced the highest yield (30.20 ton/ha) of brinjal. Maximizing the yield or brinjal besides organic manures inorganic fertilizer (nitrogen) needed to be usedItem EFFECT OF PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS ON GROWTH, YIELD AND QUALITY OF TOMATO UNDER DROUGHT STRESS(DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE, 2021) RAHMAN, MD. MIJANURThe experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during October 2019 to February 2020 to find out the effects of plant growth regulators on tomato growth, yield and quality when subjected to drought stress. Two varieties of tomato namely BARI Tomato 2 and BARI Tomato14 were used in this experiment. The treatments i.e. T = Control (No water stress), T 1 =Drought stress, T 2 0 =Drought + 100 ppm Indole Acetic Acid (IAA), T =Drought + 100 ppm Abscisic Acid (ABA), T = Drought + 100 ppm Salicylic Acid (SA) were used in this experiment. Twenty five days old, healthy and uniform seedlings were transplanted in plastic pot. Ten days after transplanting drought was imposed for three weeks. Ten days after transplanting treatments were also applied by hand sprayer. Three weeks after drought stress the plants were rewatered again. The results indicated that drought stress significantly reduced morphological, yield and quality parameters of tomato. The plant growth regulators effectively reduced the effects of drought stress. Among the plant growth regulators, IAA is the most suitable for mitigating drought stress and maintaining tomato growth, yield and fruit quality.Item SEROPREVALENCE STUDY OF INFECTIOUS LARYNGOTRACHEITIS VIRUS ANTIBODY OF COMMERCIAL LAYER IN GAZIPUR DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2012-06) RAHMAN, MD. MIJANUR; Prof. Dr. Md. Mostafizer RahmanThe research work was conducted to detect the prevalence of Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT) Virus-specific antibody in chickens from Gazipur district of Bangladesh. A total number of 232 sera of commercial layer were collected from 17 commercial layer farms. The studied commercial layers had not been previously vaccinated and were different ages. The indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (iELISA) was performed to estimate the Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT) Virus-specific antibody. Out of 232 samples, 189(81.47%) samples were found to be positive. The result of this study indicate a high Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT) Virus activity in Gazipur district of Bangladesh hence there is an urgent need for the development of prevention and control policies against ILT in Bangladesh poultry farms and a _ national control programme for Infectious Laryngotracheitis Virus infection should be planned.Item VARIETAL PERFORMANCE OF POTATO UNDER LITCHI BASED AGGROFORESTRY SYSTEMS(HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR., 2015-06) RAHMAN, MD. MIJANUR; Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul BariA field experiment was carried out in the Agroforestry and Environment Research Farm under the department of Agroforestry and Environment, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, during November 2014 to March 2015 to observe the varietal performance of potato under litchi based Agroforestry system along with sole cropping. The experiment was laid out with two factors Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) following three replications. The treatments were, factor A: two production systems viz. S1 (litchi + potato) and S2 (Potato sole cropping); factor B: Eight potato varieties viz. V1 (Diamond), V2 (Cardinal), V3 (Asterix), V4 (Carage), V5 (Lady Rosette), V6 (Granula), V7 (Raza) and V8 (4.26 R). So, the treatments combinations were S1V1, S1V2, S1V3, S1V4, S1V5 ,S1V6, S1V7, S1V8, S2V1, S2V2, S2V3, S2V4, S2V5, S2V6, S2V7and S2V8. The total number of experimental plot was 48 and the size of each plot was 2mx2m=4m2 . The result of the experiment revealed that there was a significant effect of plant height, leaf length, leaf breadth, no. of leaf shoot-1 , no. of shoot hill-1 , no. of tuber hill-1 , weight of tuber hill-1 , yield plot-1 , dry weight, tuber grade hill-1 . In case of main effects of variety, the highest tuber yield (18.88 tha-1 ) was recorded in the variety of Lady Rosette and the lowest tuber yield (12.29 tha-1 ) was recorded in the variety of Diamond. In case of main effect of production system, the highest tuber yield per hectare (21.94tha1 ) was recorded in sole cropping of potato and the lowest tuber yield (8.43tha-1 ) was found in Litchi+potato based Agroforestry system. From the economic analysis, it was observed that the higher BCR (3.50) was recorded in Litchi + Potato based Agroforestry system. On the other hand, the lower BCR (2.52) was recorded from the sole cropping of Potato. In case of interaction effect of the potato variety and production system, it was found that yield of potato varieties was lower when it was grown under litchi based Agroforestry systems, where as the yield was higher in sole cropping of potato. Moreover, among the eight potato varieties, Lady Rosette gave the better yield both in the litchi based Agroforestry systems as well as in sole cropping whereas the lowest yield was found in Diamond potato variety when grown in litchi based Agroforestry systems as well as in sole cropping. However, the suitability of the cultivation of different potato variety under litchi based Agroforestry systems may be ranked as Lady Rosette> Granula > Asterix > Carage> Raza > 4.26 R > Cardinal > Diamond.. Finally it may be concluded that out of the eightpotato varieties, Lady Rosette would be the best variety to be grown under litchi based Agroforestry systems considering the additional returns as per investment in terms of money and time.
