Item EFFECT OF ORGANIC AND INORGANIC FERTILIZERS ON THE YIELD AND NUTRIENT UPTAKE OF BRRI DHAN 28(HAJEE MOHAMMOD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR, 2008-06) MAMUN, MD. ABDULLAH AL; Prof. Md. Mansur RahmanA field experiment was carried out at the Soil Science Field Laboratory, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during the boro season of 2008 to study the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the yield and nutrient uptake of BRRI Dhan 28. The work was laid out in the randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. There were fourteen treatment combinations comprising of different levels of recommended doses of chemical fertilizers and organic manures (cowdung, poultry manure and mustard oil cake) along with control. Cowdung, poultry manure and mustard oil cake were applied 10 days before transplantation and the full doses of TSP, MP, gypsum and zinc sulphate were applied during the final land preparation. Urea was applied in three equal splits at 7, 30 and 60 DAT. The grain and straw yields as well as the yield contributing characteristics like plant height, number of tillers hill’, number of effective tillers hill’, panicle length, number of grains panicle™', number of filled grains panicle’ and 1000 grain weight were significantly influenced due to different treatments. The highest grain (5300) and straw (8700 kg ha’) yields were recorded in the treatment T, (100% RFD) followed by 75% RFD + 25% organic manure. Among the combined application of chemical fertilizers and organic manures, 75% RFD + 25% MOC exerted beneficial effects on yield and yield contributing characteristics of BRRI Dhan 28 compared to cowdung and poultry manure. A significant increase in the NPK contents as well as their total uptake due to combined application of fertilizers and manures were observed. Analyses of post-harvest soil fertility status revealed that the application of organic manures positively influenced the organic matter, total N, available P, exchangeable K, available S, and available Zn contents while all the treatments slightly decreased the soil pH.Item GROWTH AND YIELD PERFORMANCE OF TEN SELECTED RICE VARIETIES IN AMAN SEASON(DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL BOTANY, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, DHAKA -1207, 2020-06) MAMUN, MD. AboLa half (49.52 percent) of the respondents fell in low knowledge category Followed by very low knowledge (27.62 percent) and medium knowledge (22.86 percent) category in homestead thnning knowledge. Level of education. homestead farm size, annual family income, organizational participation, cosmopoliteness, contact with extension agent and exposure to mass media agricultural programs had significant positive relationships with homestead farming knowledge of Gum women farmers. Age of the Garo women thrmers had significant negative relationship with homestead farming knowledge. Family size and average thmily education had positive but no significant relationships with the homestead Ihrming knowledge of Gait women farmers.Item IMPROVEMENT OF BORO SEEDLING STRENGTH AND YIELD THROUGH SEED PRIMING AND SEEDBED SOIL AMENDMENT(DEPARTMENT OF SOIL SCIENCE, 2022) MAMUN, MD. ABDULLAH ALA pot experiment was conducted under the net house of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka, Bangladesh, during December 2020 to May 2021, to study on yield performance of a rice variety (BRRI dhan84) as influenced by the effects of seed priming with salicylic acid (SA) and using organic material (Shrimp Shell Powder, SSPd) in the seedbed. Fourteen (14inches) size plastic pots were used in the experiment having height (10.5inches) and diameter (9.5inches). The pots were filled with 10 kg SAU field moist soils having the texture silty clay loam soil. The experiment was laid out in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) having six treatments (T 1 = 0 μM Salicylic Acid + 0% Shrimp Shell Powder, T = 0 μM Salicylic Acid + 0.25% Shrimp Shell Powder, T 3 2 = 0 μM Salicylic Acid + 0.5% Shrimp Shell Powder, T 4 = 50 μM Salicylic Acid + 0% Shrimp Shell Powder, T = 50 μM Salicylic Acid + 0.25 % Shrimp Shell Powder, T 6 5 = 50 μM Salicylic Acid + 0.5% Shrimp Shell Powder) with twenty four (24) replications. A significant variation was observed in the germination (%), seedlings height, biomass production, seedling strength and chemical properties of the seedbed soils due to the seed priming with SA and application of Shrimp Shell Powder in the seedbed. The maximum germination (79%), seedlings height (24.65cm), seedling fresh weight (593.29mg), seedling oven dry weight (396.14mg), seedling strength (18.08mg cm −1 ), grain yield sundry weight (66.35g pot −1 ), grain yield oven dry weight (58.17g pot −1 ) and straw yield (70.25g pot −1 ) were observed in the treatment T . Otherwise, the minimum germination (61%), seedlings height (19.52cm), seedling fresh weight (239.67mg), seedling oven dry weight (144.84mg), seedling strength (7.42mg cm 6 ), grain yield sundry weight (49.59g pot −1 ), grain yield oven dry weight (43.61 g pot ) and straw weight (51.12g pot −1 ) were recorded in the treatment T (control). Whereas, the maximum level of OC (0.78%), OM (1.34%), pH (6.4), available Phosphorus (39.34 ppm) and available Sulphur (30.36ppm) were recorded in the treatment T 1 . Otherwise, the minimum level of OC (0.64%), OM (1.1%), pH (6.3), available Phosphorus (17.69ppm) and available Sulphur (17.22ppm) were recorded in the treatment T (control). Shrimp Shell Powder increased the level of organic matter in a dose dependent manner. Quality of the rice seedlings were improved due to the application of the organic matter in a dose dependent manner and the treatment T (50μM Salicylic Acid + 0.5 % Shrimp Shell Powder) was the more effective than other treatments. Most of the morphological, yield attributes and grain yield were increased with increasing the dose of Shrimp Shell Powder. Maximum grain yield was observed in T 6 treatment followed by T 5 ,T 4 ,T 3 , T 2 and T (control). So overall result indicated that application of shrimp shell powder in soil has significant impact on growth and yield of BRRI dhan84 and some on chemical properties of soil.Item SOME MORPHOLOGICAL OBSERVATION OF VICTORY LOACH, Schistura scaturigina (MCCLELLAND, 1839) IN THE ATRAI RIVER, DINAJPUR, BANGLADESH(HAJEE MOHAMMOD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR, 2017-12) MAMUN, MD. ABDULLAH AL; Kaniz FatemaThe study was conducted to describe the length-weight relationships (LWRs), condition factors (CFs) and length-length relationships (LLRs) of Schistura scaturigina collected from the Atrai River of Dinajpur, Bangladesh from January 2017 to June 2017. Fish samples were collected using push net (1.50 × 1.00 m2 , mesh size 6 mm) with the help of local fishermen from two stations (JG and KS) at monthly interval. Body size of 1165 individuals ranged from 3.2 to 5.8 cm in length and 0.22 to 1.70 g in weight. The values of slope (b) varied from 2.973 to 3.027 and 2.993 to 3.028 for male and female, respectively where all calculated “b” values were not significantly different (p > 0.05) from expected (b= 3.0) values. Besides, the values of “b” from LWRs indicated isometric growth (b= 3) in all months during study period. The values of Fulton's condition factor (CFf) recorded as 0.86±0.02 to 0.71±0.01 and 0.84±0.01 to 0.71±0.01 for male and female, respectively while the values of relative body weight (BWr) varied from 99.69±0.97 to 101.13±2.51 and 99.87±1.01 to 100.74±0.84 for male and female, respectively. During the study, the values of form factors (a3.0) were recorded as 0.0048 to 0.0086 and 0.0062 to 0.0094 for male and female from both stations (JG and KS) of the Atrai River. In LLRs (among TL, SL, HL and FL), strong relationships were found of TL vs. SL (r2 > 0.898), TL vs. FL (r2 > 0.973), FL vs. SL (r2 > 0.853), HL vs. TL (r2 > 0.525), HL vs. SL (r2 > 0.502) and HL vs. FL (r2 > 0.448) between sexes of this species. Finally, it may be concluded that the findings of this research on S. scaturigina would be baseline information for future research and management.
